carry ons in cabins after embarkation?

Only a couple of times since HAL started this new practice several years have the cabins not been ready.

It is really great to be able to drop off carry on luggage and other items and then do whatever we want to do.

Dining room on the lower level is open for lunch from Noon until 1:30.

Just read another post which suggested that carry ons can be dropped off in cabins prior to lunch...is this accurate?  Will be on the Westerdam Alaska itinerary.   THank you.

Yes you don't want to pack everything into your packed luggage.  In your carry on(s) I suggest:

  • reading material for you and games for the kids
  • Swimwear.  You don't want to sit at the pool watching others take a dip while you still are wearing your travel clothes.
  • Makeup and other toiletries.  Just remember the TSA restrictions if you fly in that morning.
  • Just in case your checked luggage is delayed getting to the state room or misplaced, clothing for dinner that night.  This is generally a  casual night and that is all I will say on that.  See dress code threads for more.
  • Sleepwear see above.

You can even unpack them, and get that chore out of the way before you go to lunch! Then, after lunch, your suitcase(s) might even be there, and all ready to unpack, too.
This system where cabins are ready & available when you board is one of the great benefits on HAL.

  • Thanks 1

Last week on the Nieuw Amsterdam cabins were ready at embarkation beginning at 11:35 even though there had been a late debarkation that morning. As others have said, this is one of the great innovations of HAL. (Now if they could only fix their website).
