Hi! We'll be onboard Victory the day of the World Cup Final. Anyone know if they will play it onboard?

Thanks!

I would imagine, with such a major event! Most likely in the Skybox Sports Bar!

Probably in the Skybox Sports Bar.  It's on Fox and that's not in the stateroom channel lineup.

Also it's on at 11AM Eastern, so doubting it'll be on the Lido.

Idk it's a Nassau Port day, and they usually don't have anything else better to play on the screen so maybe? lol

Sr Frog's will probably have it on.  Course the rowdies will be packing the place.  Might also give the Green Parrot or the Bearded Clam a try.  Both along the main drag near the cruise pier.  Bearded Clam is a sister bar to Wet Lizard in Belize.

I've never heard of either of those but will look out for them! thank you!

If it’s on Fox, it won’t be shown on the ship since Carnival no longer carries the major networks. There were a lot of upset people on a few cruises I was on last Fall on Saturdays when a lot of good college football games were not shown on the ship. At least Carnival has Sunday Ticket, so watching most NFL games isn’t an issue.

not necessarily true, the Masters was on in April on CBS in the sports bar. Carnival does not have Sunday ticket or Directv anymore.

ESPN’s Caribbean feed often shows major sports events like the Super Bowl (that’s the channel that showed the Super Bowl when we were on Magic in Feb 2018), so it’s possible the World Cup final could be picked up by that channel.

So Carnival won’t have Sunday Ticket this coming Fall?  That’s not good to hear. I didn’t mind cruising on weekends last Fall because I was still able to watch Eagles games on Sundays on Carnival ships (Liberty and Miracle last November and December).

The ESPN in the sports bar is not the regular / American  ESPN.  My DH  and son wanted to watch an F1 race that was on ESPN. They went to the sports bar and the ESPN was showing tennis and then cricket.

We also couldn't watch World Cup soccer. They didn't show any games while we were on board.

On the Horizon last year, to catch Sunday NFL games you had to go to the sports bar arjacent to the smoky casnio. However it was fun watching with fellow Raven's fans. Do miss having it availa in your cabin. But lack of network TV is not a deap breaker for me. Inconvenient yea but, a minor issue. Too busy having fun.

what are "group stage games"?

The teams participating in World Cup are broken up into groups of 4 teams.  They play each other, round robin style.  A win gets 3 points for the winning team.  A tie gets each team 1 point, and if a team loses they get 0 points.  At the end of group play, the top two teams in each group advance to the knockout rounds.  Also some third place teams advance based on points.  There are also tie breakers involved in deciding which teams go to the next .  I won't go into that.

The knockout rounds start with 16 teams, which happened last weekend (more or less).  The winners advanced to the quarter finals, which happened, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The semifinals are on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.

The final is on Sunday.

We just got off Breeze this morning. I asked several bartenders at the casino bar if they would be showing the USA-England game on Tuesday. None of them were sure if the game would be shown or not. We ended up watching the game at a bar in St. Thomas with a lot of other passengers from the ship. I never found out if the game was shown on the ship.

I was on the Pride last year during the men's world cup.  They didn't show any LIVE games, but the showed them on replay on FoxSports1 about 2 days after.  My assumption was that since there's a wide array of nationalities working among the crew onboard that love soccer, it would be a deterrent?  As far as showing sports events from one of the major networks, they are streamed in through the ESPN International channels onboard.  That's why when there's a break in the game, the only commercials you'll see will be about future events (cricket, soccer, etc) on the International channel. And not a beer or truck ad.

As I said the Masters was on CBS, so they can get access to networks, money talks

Money does talk and carnival won’t chance breaking the contract with espn international which cost them millions. If you saw the masters it was either Thursday or Friday when it was carried by espn or if you saw it on cbs on Saturday or Sunday it’s because espn international made an exception due to the first 2 days being on ESPN. They get a list of shows that they can broadcast every few days. It’ll be the Espn international channels and on occasion something from abc since Disney owns both abc and espn.

I wont say no but to the OP I doubt the World Cup will be on since it is fox. Unless there is some exception and is on the list given to carnival of what they can carry that day.
