Hello all, looking to book Oceania for the 1st time next June for a Med Cruise.  Just wondering, what is the entertainment like on board?  We aren’t party animals but do enjoy staying out late to have a few drinks or dance while cruising.  Also what kind of demographic can we expect?

Thanks.

They usually have  1 show at 9:30  A Production maybe 4 during a cruise  then single performers for other night

sometimes  a movie

Piano player in Martinis, string quartet in the evening

Pretty low key

Horizons will have some music or games  after the show about 10:30 ish +

If a port intensive cruise  most people eat dinner relax & go to their cabins to get up early for the next says tours

It is definitely not lively like main stream lines

Usually  the age range is 20's to 80's  but most in the 50-70 range

You are making it sound like a floating library... :) , is it really that quiet?  We are in our 50s but aren't ready to sit in a rocking chair just yet.  BTW, off season, the main stream cruise lines, at least Celebrity, aren't exactly party ships either.

PS A string quartet sounds more like background music than entertainment...

It is quiet on Oceania 😉

Yes, if you go to bed early.  There are options including late night dancing/karaoke, casino, and of course the nightly entertainment in the lounge.

Might not be what you are looking for

OTOH it may be just right for you.

We took our 30 something children and spouses with us on our anniversary cruise.  We were holding our breath hoping they would not find Oceania too stodgy or boring.  They made their own fun and outlasted us most nights.  The bartenders in Horizons had their 11:00 pm drinks waiting for them by the second night.  One couple has already booked another Oceania cruise.  But you will not know if it is for you until you try it.  Keep on sailing.

Not sure if that's so.   I think reading a lot on this board will help.  But it honestly sounds like it might be a little low key for OP.

Exactly

but if people are expecting the cruise  to be jumping  late into the night   they will be disappointed with Oceania

I am happy to do my own thing  but others may need more activities  supplied

People should try the cruise  & decide for themselves

You are right, you only know if you try.  Its a good itinerary, we will probably try it.  Like any cruise it is what you make it.  It was probably a stupid question to ask, as the people who go to their cabin right after dinner wouldn't know what's going on the ship afterwards or how lively it is.  Like I said, we just aren't party animals we just don't go to bed at 9pm....we just like enjoy all our time on a cruise including time on the ship.

I think you'd enjoy Oceania, we regularly sail on Marina & Riviera and love it. The entertainment is ok, and if you like a drink/ dance after dinner then Horizons have a band on. Not sure if it's every night though. We find it a very sociable cruise line and have no complaints about feeling entertained etc. I'd say, give it a go!

Thanks.  You only know if you try.  Just to spite the posters who don't seem to want us on Oceania, we just booked with 25 other rowdy couples!  🙂  Looking forward to it.  A ten day med cruise was the same price as a Celebrity cruise around the same time, and its a better itinerary.

PS  The only accurate thing in the second sentence is "we just booked" with another couple....just kidding for the rest.

The OP should expect to be in the younger 10% in demographics perhaps even the bottom 5%.

The OP said he/she is in his 50's.  I wouldn't put that in the younger 5-10% although it is true that  O has an older clientele on average than the mass market lines.  I'm in my mid-60's and on my last O cruise, which was this year, there were many people younger than me. There were quite a few in their 40's and a handful in their 30's.  There were plenty of people out on the dance floor at 11pm.  The OP said he's not a "party animal" but does enjoy being out to have a late night drink and dancing. It sounds to me he will fit in with Oceania so I hope he/she will give it a try.

I don't think posters have been trying too hard to dissuade you from booking ... it's more that from some of your comments it did appear that this didn't sound like a good fit.  That being said, I'm glad to hear you're willing to give Oceania a try.

As others have said, the itinerary and time of year can be factors.

We aren't people to tend to go to the bars but sometimes it appears that if no one is at Horizons or Martinis and the evening is getting on, they will close up.  But I haven't ever heard that they toss people out just because it's midnight.

Now that made me laugh!! Seriously, go and enjoy it. We are looking at booking our 10th cruise on Oceania. Personally I prefer the slightly larger Marina/ Riviera ships. Food is amazing and the ships are fully of lovely art pieces. I look forward to your review after cruise!

It looks like the Sirena and the Riviera are the two ships in the Med in Jun 2020. As both itineraries are pretty port intensive, there doesn’t look like there are many sea days on any of them.

We’ve sailed on both ships and very much enjoyed eating outside up at the Terrace Cafe both at breakfast as well as dinner.

The shows are entertaining and there’s dancing up at Horizons, but make sure you pre-book your specialty restaurants as soon as you are allowed based on your cabin category, especially if you like to eat early rather than late.

Also, if you plan on taking any O excursions at the different ports, make sure you book your cruise with the OLife excursion option to take advantage of the discounts that come with them.

But don’t worry you folks are going to have a great time!!

Thanks, as per my other post, we are booked and looking forward to it.  In our mid 50's (maybe "late 50's in few months...) but planning to retire in a few years and the first thing we want to do after retirement is do a long cruise.  So need to figure out which line we want to spend a few months on.....  Also a little tired of Celebrity, although our next cruise would put us at elite status, kind of lost our mojo on that line.  Probably because all the Solstice class ships were so identical.

I know this is an O thread and you will enjoy your cruise with them. But we are in our mid 60s and enjoy having fun and laughing a lot in the evenings and on sea days. As you may have noticed in my signature, we have pretty much focused our future cruising with Princess. One big reason is they have 5-6 assistant CDs with plenty of events to choose from when they’re at sea. Another reason is we can get a mini-suite or sometimes a full suite on a longer Princess cruise for cheaper than we can get the cheapest balcony on an O cruise.

But this is just us. You may fall in love with the more relaxed atmosphere on an O cruise and decide they’re your new favorite line as they do have a great loyalty program!!
