HI all!

I'm in an aft cabin Haven on the Joy as the 3rd "wheel". The 1st 2 people have the drink package. Anyone have experieince with this. they think they can just give me their card and I can go get a drink with it...should I just buy 1 of my own? thanks in advance!!

When you order a drink, the card is swiped and the photo of the person whose name is on the card is shown on the screen.

Using someone else's card could get their package revoked.

You are better off paying for your own drinks a la carte since buying a drink package is likely much more expensive.

If you plan on having the friends "gift" drinks to you, there is a possibility of their package being revoked AND there is a possibility that they will be charged for all previous drinks purchased with the package.

The right thing to do is to buy a package of your own. Also, when a card is swiped, there is a picture that comes up on the computer, so if you’re a blonde and the real cardholder is a brunette, that may not work out too well.

I had the same situation and went ahead and purchased my own package. They were offering something called Caps and Corks which allows me to enjoy beer and wine but no mixed drinks. That's ok because it's mainly the wine I'm after.  If I decide to get a mojito I can just pay for it. To me, it's just not worth the worry of having to depend on someone else to get my drinks on their card. Also, passengers 1 and 2 would NEVER forgive me if I caused them to lose their perks.

The drink package is pretty expensive and unless you like to drink quite a bit and will be spending a lot of time on board instead of ashore, it might be hard to make it worth your while.  I think the break even point is something like 10 or 12 drinks a day (depending on price of the drink)...which is doable by many on at sea day.  But in a period of 7 days when you are on shore for part of the time, it is hard to hit that amount each day.

Ways you can drink in board without breaking the bank:  learn to love the drink of the day,  which is a less expensive drink.

Bring your own wine on board and pay corkage fee, or get a bottle of wine at dinner, and have them recork it and bring it to you wherever you dine.  We do this for my mom:  get her one white and one red and they give us a claim check.   No matter where we dine, they will run to whatever restaurant is storing the wine and bring it to our table.  She has a glass with dinner and the two bottles last her a week.

I don't know if the bartenders don't care or if they appreciate our honesty, but we always try to get them to charge us for drinks for my mom ( our third in our room).   I will give them my card (with the drink package) and my mom's card (without) and explain I need to pay for one of the drinks.  Occasionally, they take her card and ring through a cocktail.   Occasionally, they just put both drinks through on my card and do not charge us.  My advice is be honest and let the bartender decide how he or she is feeling.   We might have better luck with this because my mom is 89 years old and doesn't have too many cocktails.

Remember your friends can order 2 drinks at a time EACH

My MIL is our 3rd guest and she doesn’t drink much but we were just going to Pay for her drinks on a per drink basis....All servers or bartenders we started ordering hers from just told us to put it on one of ours

Was simple w no problems

Tipped each drink extra

Your situation is Almost identical to ours....We’re always upfront about wanting to pay for hers but never had to so far as each server/bartender just put it on one of ours

Have a heart to heart with the other two people and decide who will drink the least.  Make that person #3, and use the drink pkg for the two heaviest drinkers.  #3 gets either corks n caps or pays for drinks.  If there's a reason you are #3 as far as "who pays for what" then #1 or #2 make a deal with #3 that they pay #3's bar tab (or it gets divvied up or however the group wants to handle it).

Since a photo will pop up if they ever swipe the card, using someone else's card would be a bad idea. It would result in the cancellation of their package with no compensation.

At $120 per day, it would be cheaper for you to get your room with the drinks package included.

Same thing happened with us last December on the Bliss. My sister-in-law was the third person in our cabin and every time she was with us and gave her card the waiter or bartender would give it back and use one of ours.

Sounds like the tip (bribe) is what did the trick.

I would be very careful about trying to cheat the system. Many mentioned losing your drink package; no one mentioned the possibility that you could be kicked off of the ship for theft. (I don't know if the captain has that option, but I would not like to find out the hard way).

Nah I tip even when the drinks are free in the casino....But did tip a extra $1 for them saying they’d just put in on ours

most likely the bartenders n servers know they normally get extra $$ by doing this

The captain is the judge and jury on the ship and has absolute power to kick you off the ship for anything or nothing....

True, but you have to do a lot more than give someone a drink. Heck they don't kick people off for smuggling booze, why would they do that for sharing?

Now if there are special circumstances you could get in trouble. For example, a passenger has a drinking problem and the staff cuts him off and you give him another drink, that could be serious.

On Carnival this would not even be a topic for debate. They price their package fairly (unlike NCL where price is a gimmick) and they require every adult in the room to get the package if any does.
