Room Ready when you board

We were on the Regal in Brooklyn in October.   We were told that staterooms would not be accessible until 1:00 and that an announcement would be made when ready.  Since we know how busy room stewards are on turn around day, we did not attempt to go to our room until 1:00.  We always turn our luggage over to the porters and only carry a tote on board with electronics, jewelry, and medications.  So we just boarded as usual, had lunch and then chilled and watched people until 1:00.  At 1:00 we heard no announcement, but just went to our room at that time.

We have found that in the last year or so Princess has been trading off the cabins being ready when you board with starting boarding anywhere from 10:30 to Noon. They would ask that passengers get something to eat or explore the ship while waiting for the cabins to be ready which happens by 1pm. On some ships they would also provide a dedicated location with an attendant and claim checks to leave any carryons that you do not want to have lug around.

We love to be able to board early and always head to the DR at either 11:30 or Noon (depending on the ship) and have a nice relaxing lunch. By the time we are done the cabins are usually ready.

Doesn't bother us to have to wait and it gives Stewart time to do a very difficult job on turnaround day without having to deal with passengers.

Recently they have been ready either when we get on or shortly after.

Too many cabins, not enough crew.

Haven’t been on Princess in a bit and couldn’t find any recent threads on this topic. One of the things we always enjoyed about Princess was having our cabin available at boarding. Is this no longer the case?

Cruised princess 7 times and have had my staterooms available upon boarding every time.

This policy appears to be fairly new, within the past year or so. It also depends on when you get to board. Anyone getting on board the ship on my cruise last month after 12:30 would not have realized that they did not have them all ready for those of us who boarded before 11.

Same here!  Being able to get to our cabin as soon as we board was an important thing for us.

It's really more a function of the time you show up for boarding.  This is from the Progressive Cruise Check-in Information paragraph part of the Travel Summary:  "Please do not arrive prior to the start of cruise check-in as your cabin will not be ready.
12:30 PM - Aloha and Lido Decks - Cabins on these decks begin with A & L 1:00 PM - Dolphin and Emerald Decks - Cabins on these decks begin with D & E 1:30 PM - Caribe Deck - Cabins on this deck begin with C 2:00 PM - Marina and Riviera Decks - Cabins on these decks begin with M & R 2:30 PM - Baja Deck - Cabins on this decks begin with B"

If you were to follow the Progressive Check-in guidelines then your cabin should be ready upon boarding.  Many of the people posting here (Including me...) tend to show up for boarding well before the time suggested by the Progressive Check-in.  That's generally when PAX encounter cabins not being available yet.  Relax, have lunch and/or cocktails and enjoy the start of your vacation.
