Have You Been Informed That Your FCC Is Available For Use?

Our cruise that was scheduled for May 26th was cancelled the second week in April and we rebooked two days later for a November 22, 2020 14 night sailing. We paid a small deposit and didn’t bug our PCC about the FCC. We received an email from HAL this week that our FCC was available to use. Within a few hours, we spoke with our PCC and she applied our credits and all was fine. Granted we still need our port taxes refunded to our credit card... I’m not sure why we got our FCC so fast. Maybe it’s because we responded to the cancellation email immediately. Maybe it’s because we rebooked immediately. I know this is all very frustrating and disappointing (we were sailing in 16 days) but we must be patient and it will all work out.

Our experience was similar. We were scheduled on the April 6th transAtlantic on the Rotterdam. We responded quickly to the FCC option. Rescheduled later the two week Norway/Arctic cruise for May 2021, and our TA asked HAL to apply the FCC when it becomes available to the new booking. We got our notice this week, and the TA contacted HAL to confirm the FCC. No problems that we are aware of. We are still waiting for the port charges refund from the April cruise, as well as from the flight home from Amsterdam (booked separately). I figure (and hope) it will work out eventually.

My question is directed to everyone who has received their FCCs and then reapplied them to another cruise in the future.

Many online TAs offer additional cruise credits as bonuses when you book with them.  If you booked a future cruise with one of these online TAs, did you lose all of your additional TA provided cruise credits when you applied your FCCs to that cruise or did your additional TA provided cruise credits remain unchanged?

o.k. a picture is worth a thousand words.

Can someone who got the FCC applied to a cruise post a picture where it is shown on their invoice?   Just the part where the FCC was applied.   I am waiting for my March FCC but there seems to be much confusion in my mind as to whether the FCC posted to their invoice.

Hope I am not asking for too much.

We lost our OBC and additional perks when HAL cancelled our cruise. We had a beverage package/dining perk which was not a huge loss to us plus $1000 OBC and free gratuities. Those could not be transferred to the new cruise we booked. Our new sailing was eligible for the promotion with free gratuities, $300 OBC for booking a suite bonus, and reduced deposit ($398). Once we had our PCC apply the FCC, the additional OBC was applied and we are at $800 for this sailing. Pair that with owning CCL stock on a14 night cruise and we will be at $1050 OBC.
I would say watch the promotions and the fine print. Not all sailings qualify for the same promotion.

Fantastic.   Exactly what I was looking for!  FCC posted as Miscellaneous Credit.

Thank you very much.

Peter

Glad it helped.

now for the disturbing part.  When discussing getting insurance for the cruise the FCC wouldn’t be part of it.  Just the taxes.  It made it seem as use it or lose it despite a lot of it being monies paid to HAL.  If I had realized that early on I would have gone with total refund.

I just got notification of my FCC from my canceled 5/24 cruise, but only for one passenger's fare rather than both. Anyone else have the same experience? I guess I'll give them a call and inquire tomorrow.

Still nothing on the second passenger's FCC, but I did get all but one shore excursion refunded yesterday - as I mentioned upthread, my wife and my stateroom is on a different reservation from her mother's, and it's one of hers that didn't get refunded, so I'm hoping that's still coming. (Though all 3 of our excursions for the other ports were refunded, so I don't know.) I'll continue to hold off on contacting them since I know they're swamped, and I don't feel like waiting on hold for hours.

We have not yet gotten FCC and Cruise refund for our March 15, 2020 Koningsdam SA cruise.   We are a group that waited for HAL to cancel last minute.  So according to HAL correspondence we get both FCC as well as Full Cruise Refund.   One person in our group stated that she got the FCC.   I think few (if any) have gotten promised "base" cruise refunds at this date.   We did receive refunds for Excursions, Casino Chips, Dinners and other Indulges.

I'm still confused about FCC etc. Here's a copy of the relevant parts of an email we received when we were cancelled by HAL:

" All guests will receive a full refund of their cruise fare, Holland America Line Flight Ease air, pre- and post-cruise hotel packages, prepaid shore excursions and other prepaid items, and taxes, fees, and port expenses. Your refund will be processed automatically via the method of payment used to pay for your cruise.

As your cruise has been cancelled so close to departure, each guest will also receive a Future Cruise Credit equal to 100% of the base cruise fare paid on this voyage. The terms and conditions of this Future Cruise Credit appear below."

This suggest that I get a full refund of monies paid and - in addition - FCC of 100% on top of that?

After 4 weeks of waiting for this, I logged in and saw some link which suggested I had to make a choice ... I chose FCC as

the better value. I've received FCC (although no one can figure out why I got that number). I wonder if clicking that link over-rode

(in some way) the notification I got from HAL.

@phil_daly That is strange wording.  We were cancelled close to departure and were only offered the choice of 125% of base cruise fare, plus  cash refund of all other amounts, port fees, flights, excursions, etc., OR everything back in cash.  Yours sounds like one of the cruises which was already ongoing, where people were unceremoniously disembarked and the passengers got everything back PLUS 100% of their cruise fare as a FCC.  I was not aware they had done that for anyone who had not already started out on their cruise.

Yes.  Some of us are supposed to get

1.  Refund as well as

2. FCC

Some of us on cancelled (less than 24 hour notice) March 15 Koningsdam SA cruise had already taken flights and were staying in hotels before the cruise.  So it makes sense that HAL would want to give some sort of compensation.

Here is my letter received below.

I don't know if we had to fill out a form.   In my letter it did not say fill out form.   I just sent email to my TA to see if anything else is required.

This is what we received when HAL cancelled our cruise 48 hours before departure.  Both 100% refund of all monies paid and 100% FCC of base fare.

If I were you I would follow up with Travel Agent to see if you can still get the Full Refund as well.  By the way my TA said I do not need to do anything but wait for both Full Refund and FCC.

Good Luck.

I also have received an email about me getting 125% FCC and OBC for a 7 June cancelled sailing.  I just chatted with HAL and they said the FCC is not available to see on line in my HAL acct?   How does one see all the credits - ask for another email?

I had and NCL cancelled and about 15 days later the amount of FCC they gave me shows in my on line account as well as the cruise next certificate that was reinstated.   Then I rebooked using part of the NCL FCC and the residual (I booked a lower cost cruise) shows in my NCL account - so much better than HAL.   So I can go out to the account at any time to see my credits.

Or am I missing something with HAL??

We're still waiting for our credit on our March 18th cruise.  We cancelled March 7.

Same for us.  We quickly received the credit card refund for taxes/fees/port charges/prepaid items, but haven't heard anything about the FCC.

  • 2 weeks later...

Good news! I posted in this thread on 5/7 about my various refunds. In the last few

days, I received the full refund of the original cruise to my credit card. This was for

the 3/14 Mexico cruise. So, we are now fully reimbursed and have a generous FCC

and $500 OBC. So, my message to others is: hang in there! HAL seem to be dealing

with the massive backlog.

Now, to research European cruise for June 2021 ...

When using a FCC how will insurance work for a new booking ??

I read somewhere in a previous post that FCC is not covered by insurance and that only actual money paid is covered.

So if money  of $200 is paid for the cruise insurance will only cover your $200.

Thanks  so when using a FCC to pay the tab  there's no point buying cruise insurance just medical  insurance.
