Empress of The Seas

Recommended Posts

I hope not but having Empress and Majesty so close to Aliaga doesn't bode well.

Could be they're waiting for a spot on the beach to clear out after the old RCI and Carnival ships are done there.

Our cruise last year on Empress was probably our favourite cruise we've done.

Got to meet a lot of people and see them over and over throughout the ship.

Found the staff to be superb too.

Would definitely sail her again if we have the chance.

There are many ships already sold and confirmed to be going on the beach waiting for a spot - neither Empress nor Majesty are anywhere near that status yet.

One difference with her last set of laps around the pool is that she stayed within the territorial waters of Greece this time.  Previously when she need to cycle her tanks and make water she ventured beyond the limits of Greece which is typically where they go to make water and cycle tanks.

Maybe they overhauled one engine or did other propulsion maintenance and needed to stress test it.  By staying within Greek waters they avoided more COVID testing.  She stayed out for several days so it's curious what she was up to.

That's good to know!

Apparently a new section of the ship at Aliaga, run by a different company, is doing scrap work on cruise ships - that's where the CMV Astor was beached yesterday and where CMV Marco Polo is headed (about 1+ week out).

Not arguing but confused....it does not say bought for scrap...it says "with five ships heading to new owners or to scrap".  So future is unknown.

As someone who sails part of the year from the UK, we greatly enjoyed several cruises on the Marco Polo with Cruise & Maritime.  We hate to see this ship go to scrap.  Nostalgia - but we made many good friends on her.

I know someone was advertising for a Charter for Marco Polo...and now heading to Dubai... Even though she was sold for scrap value doesnt mean she will be scrapped.

I don't think I would purchase a cruise on a ship that has been sold for scrap.  There's a better chance that it is a scam.

Pullmantur has announced they want to start sailing again in 2021 using two Celebrity ships.  Maybe Empress and Majesty are not part of the plan for the reorganized Pullmantur.

First thing I thought when I saw the report.  Kudos to Lutoff-Perlo for scooping Bayley and getting rid of dead weight first.

The  2 oldest Celebrity ships are quite a step up from the Majesty and Empress in terms of on board venues and balconies

It was interesting to see this observation in the article.  That doesn't bode well for Majesty or Empress.  If they can't pawn off these two to Pullmantur because of balcony limitations which cruise line would ever want them?

Someone involved with Pullmantur is pushing for more balconies presumably to earn higher revenue.  That must have been a lesson learned why they didn't perform as well in the past.

If Pullmantur is off the table and with no sign Majesty or Empress will carry passengers anytime soon Royal must be getting closer to reaching the conclusion they need to go to the beach.

Which Celebrity ships? Since both Celebrity and RCI have the same parent company,  does it really matter which brand sold their ships first?

M class so likely the two that haven't been revolutionized, Constellation and Infinity but that's speculation.

Having sailed on Constellation and Infinity, and twice on Monarch - I agree that Pullmantur  chose the right two ships.
