jantoby Posted January 24, 2021 #1 Share Posted January 24, 2021 It's years since I went with P&O. I'm looking at a cruise that has 5 sea days. What activities might I expect to find?

I would check the web site for ideas, there will be the usual outdoor games, demonstrations of various types, craft, cookery etc. I find the P&O speakers generally good, the films that are shown are usually fairly modern. If the weather is poor they will put on extra indoor activities. It depends what rings your bells.

I'm not interested in Casino, ice cream, coffee or art gallery to fill in 5 days. The only other offering is cinema. I was hoping for shuffleboard, quoits, bag toss, etc.

What activities might I expect to find? Based on finding by one’s BIL the activities you can join in are: Dodge the soot on aft areas The early morning (06.00) bed hogs redesigning/restacking of the subbed layouts The bed hog early morning (06.00) placing of various items to reserve sun beds The bed hog early morning (06.00) grabbing two sets of beds - shade and sun The list of P&O activities to join in is endless, but in no doubt you will discover. Best to book to Retreat immediately on embarkation .

One of my favourite pastimes though we don't do it enough because OH prefers to sit and read on the balcony on sea days.
ann141 Posted January 24, 2021 #8 Share Posted January 24, 2021 We have done 2 translantic crossings on Britannia (with 5 days at sea then 3 days at sea) and always found plenty to do.On longer crossings they often have well known speakers, both times there has been a Murder Mystery event(lasting all 5 days!), I think there is deck quoits which you mention .My husband has been part of the passenger choir and spends a lot of time in the gym and i have been to Zumba and Dance fit. There have also been girls from a whale watching charity giving talks and then giving us chances to hopefully spot a few.In fact one reason Britannia is one of our favourite P and O ships is because there are probably more activities than the smaller ships.
molecrochip Posted January 24, 2021 #9 Share Posted January 24, 2021 From Summer 2020, P&O were trying to increase activities on sea days on family ships.
poorer Posted January 25, 2021 #10 Share Posted January 25, 2021 We have done the Cookery Club this was good different cuisine different sea days. We have also dine gin tasting and wine tasting if you like that kind of thing. Movies are shown and sometime performances are put on in the theatre in the afternoon. The hydrotherapy suite is also a treat . We have also done a behind the scene tours of the Galley on Ventura not sure if this available but if it is do go really interesting then you have lunch served afterwards. There was also a food festival showcasing the speciality restaurants where you can try small samples. There is so much to do if you want to do it alternatively just chill and take in your surroundings. Hopefully back on Britannia in August so writing this has made think what I have missed. Enjoy x

Guest Posted January 25, 2021 #13 Share Posted January 25, 2021 I did a cruise on the Britannia to the Fjords in 2019 and found it a bit lacking during the day when there was bad weather. On sunny days we did archery outside (great fun), and I enjoyed the quizzes on an evening. I think we spent the majority of the day going between the coffee shops and the bars! Afternoon tea in the MDR is lovely! If the weather is good and it’s warm, the pool band, a sunbed and cocktails is good enough entertainment for me! We have the Britannia booked for a 14 day Med from Southampton at the very end of August this year. Not sure if it will go ahead but it has 7 sea days. I think I will pack a lot of books! jantoby Posted January 30, 2021 Author #14 Share Posted January 30, 2021 Sarting to wish I hadn't booked, as I've just read that P&O are only allowing people to go ashore on ship's tours. No independent shore time. I get very travel sick on coaches, don't like big groups and enjoy doing my own thing ashore. So not a lot to look forward to. All I can do is keep fingers crossed that the rule is relaxed nearer the time - it's May next year.

But by May next year it should be much more relaxed.
