VitaminSea53 Posted April 8, 2021 #1 Share Posted April 8, 2021 Is it true that they no longer use the Magic Carpet as a tendering dock or as a restaurant? Someone reported this on Facebook.

Someone reported this on Facebook. well what is true no E class ship has sailed over one year, but last Edge did, it was used in this manner. What happens next remains to be seen. And "reported" on facebook....nuff said 1
jelayne Posted April 8, 2021 #3 Share Posted April 8, 2021 When the ship was sailing the Magic Carpet was a bar, restaurant and tender platform. While out of service it hadn’t been used as a bar or restaurant; not sure about a tender platform.
VitaminSea53 Posted April 8, 2021 Author #4 Share Posted April 8, 2021 Thanks all. I realize it has been out of service - as have all the ships- for over a year but the message was that the tendering dock was the wrong height for the port transfer vessels and that the life boats were the right height but too unstable to use in rocky seas. After several passengers fell, they stopped using the Magic Carpet for tendering. Also was mentioned that the Magic Carpet is too windy for dining so it is now planned to only be a bar. Just wondering if this was a single event or a new policy.

Only had drinks when it was on upper decks, was a bit breezy.

Many of those same reviews say MC is great for tendering but not so much for dining.

It might very well be that not all of them are a perfect fit for the Magic Carpet tender platform. So exceptions can occur. But it´s definitely not a new general policy. Rare hcat Posted April 8, 2021 #8 Share Posted April 8, 2021 On both of our EDGE cruises, the Magic Carpet was used for a special "res only" expensive dinner on some port days..subject to weather conditions. Res sold out almost instantly, and we heard it was an amazing meal..tailored to the outdoor setting. It was a great spot in the morning and afternoons for drinks and views. Although we did not get to ride the fancy ferry, we enjoyed leaving and returning to/ from ports via the area built for it..very clean, spacious, and efficient etc.

I'm pretty sure Captain Kate's TikTok showed her boarding the Edge tenders via magic carpet a month or two ago to pick up stuff from the mail delivery ship. Also, the entire Destination Gateway is designed around the Magic Carpet tender experience... wall of windows protected by sea doors, the automatically extending gangways, etc. It's a key part of the Edge class experience. Speaking from personal experience having tendered on the Edge (and many other ships), there's absolutely no way more people fell on the Magic Carpet compared to the rickety heaving stairs of death that lead to a normal tender. And they still have crew members assisting people on and off the actual tenders as needed. 1

kathynorth Posted April 8, 2021 #16 Share Posted April 8, 2021 The Apex webinar from last month indicated the MC would be used as a restaurant and tender platform.

WonderMan3 Posted April 8, 2021 #19 Share Posted April 8, 2021 Remember that Apex got a modified version of the Magic Carpet with glass or plexiglass in some places that are open air on the Edge version. The hope is that these changes will increase the opportunities to use it as a dining venue especially while the ship is at sea.
Rare hcat Posted April 9, 2021 #20 Share Posted April 9, 2021 Those would be welcome changes Same for improvements to the Rooftop Garden/ movie/ music area... needed shade and wind protection....heard changes were made on EDGE( including pulling out the curvey wood bench) and also for APEX.

When we sailed the Edge in summer of 2019 in Europe, the rooftop garden was entirely abandoned. It was the record-breaking heat wave, and the temps were oppressive. They seemed to be installing new shade or sculptural elements via crane when we were in port some days, but overall that space was a complete bust on our sailing. No programming or entertainment of any sort, and other than a few people at dinner, no one was ever up there. Living in a NY apartment, we missed the lawn and green space of the Solstice class.
