Price dropped - How long for amount to show up online

Hello, The cruise I am taking dropped by $1000.  I have not paid in full yet. I called HAL 2 days ago, to re-price my cruise.  The customer service person acknowledged the $1000 price drop and re-priced it, but 2 days later its not showing up when I click "make a payment".  Its only showing that the price came down $262 instead of $1000. If I go under "my bookings" tab and click the link on my booking #, it brings up a page that shows itinerary, shore excursions, cruise activities, and travel planning tabs. Is there anywhere that shows the guest booking confirmation letter that shows the price details?

HAL air is a good explanation of the difference. Did you get a booking confirmation emailed to you from HAL? If so, does the amount due on the booking confirmation match the "make a payment" page?

I did not get a  new confirmation e-mail.  The amount due before the re-price was 'total price' - 'deposit' = 'old due amount' .  'old due amount' - 'new due amount' = $262

I just called again. They repriced it again at $7,046.  The original booking was $8,098. I did request an e-mail conformation, but it still shows as $7,836. $262 savings.  Did the sales rep send an old conformation pdf?  The 'make a payment' still only shows a savings of $262.

Just out of curiosity, if the price of my cruise drops, do I have to keep track of it, or will HAL automatically reprice it.  I booked through HAL.

You have to watch the sales and go directly to HAL and get the adjustment.  There are numerous websites which will track the cruise price for you.

I just called again. After a brief hold, the rep had to send me over to a pricing specialist.  He was able to get my cruise $1052  cheaper.

This is where a travel agent is very helpful. One email to our TA would have had this cleared up with no further effort on our part.

I did not notice the price has dropped until my friend wanted to book the same cruise for her family. We were charged a little over $4000 for ocean view for 3pp, but now even the verandah only costs $3673. So I called the cruise and the rep told me she could not make the adjustment herself and needs to transfer me over to a pricing specialist. Since the rep could not get a hold of a pricing specialist, she asked me to call back later, which I did.  Then another rep told me he could make the upgrade, but the new price for verandah will be $4500. I told him the current online verandah price shows only $3673, but he said he could not give me the current price, only the price at the time of my original booking. Since HAL offers flexible cancellation with no cancellation fee, I told him I will just cancel my booking and rebook the same cruise later. He then told me I could not use FCC for the same cruise. I cancelled it anyway because I was so feed up with this rep's attitude. Apparently I was perfectly able to book the same cruise using FCC as I just did two days later. So if the cruise gives you too much headache, just cancel the cruise and book it again.

I've also taken screenshots of their website for any price drops. Sent to my PCC as he couldn't always see the same pricing on his end. He often had to talk to a supervisor to give us the website price.

Just went thru a price drop ($500 per person) with our "big internet" TA.

All I did was email her the request and a new confirmation appeared within a few hours.

Not sure why it's so difficult for HAL to do the same thing?

The rules are that price drops are honored but “how” they’re honored depends upon what rules you booked under and where you are in the process.  (eg, non-refundable deposit) Your booking confirmation will have the financial details on page 2.  I have never had a problem having a booking refared by my PCC.  It sounds like you may be speaking with any old person when you call and not the consultant assigned, so that may be part of the problem.

In addition, if you did not book directly with HAL then you will need to speak with your TA.

Editing to add that if you’re past final payment then sometimes HAL is not able to drop the price but will give you onboard credit or something comparable.  So far, with Princess (my first time with them) they are honoring the price drops even after final payment.

Our experience has been......

if price drop is before final payment then we are good to re-book and take advantage of the new lower price.

If price drop is after final payment, we get upgraded to a cabin that is more in line with the new price.

We have to initiate any of this and as referenced above, it's all thru the TA.

I am reading these posts and shaking my head.  One nice thing about using a decent discount cruise agency is that it is just a matter of a quick e-mail ("please reprice my cruise") and it should be done (or get yourself a better cruise agency).   As to perks, it really does depend on the actual promotion that generated the perk and the terms of the new pricing.  This is another reason to use a decent cruise/travel agent who represents YOU...not the cruise line.   When we notice this kind of price drop it generally takes us less than 1 minute to send off an e-mail asking for the info.  Our cruise agency will generally be back to us within hours with all the pertinent info including any impact on previous perks.
