Do GTY assignments and Upsells still start about 2 weeks out?

Upsells are typically done further in advance...sometimes months in advance. GTYs can go out anytime under 30 days, with most under 21 days. Our GTY on KDAM in Feb-March came in at 17 days, perhaps because were were on a B2B, and they needed to lock up the same cabin for two cruises.

I sail on the KDAM this Sunday on a casino offer. Just got the offer to move from a VH today for $199pp to another balcony cabin. Figured for $400 we can look at a lifeboat.

So, DaveOKC accepted his upsell offer...anyone else who has responded accepted their offer?

Last Friday we accepted an upsell from a Verandah to a Neptune Suite on our 5/29 cruise. We declined an upsell offer we received a couple days earlier for our 5/15 cruise. So we'll have an Oceanview northbound to Alaska and a aft-wrap Neptune for the southbound trip.

Hi-

29 days until sailing on the K-dam on 05-07-22 from Vancouver. We have a GTY VH on a casino offer. I'm assuming the Upsells ad GTY assignments still start about 10-14 days out?

Thanks,

Paul

I'm on your cruise.  I just received my GTY cabin assignment this morning, April 28th.  No upsell offer in sight yet.

For our cruise departing 5/1, we received an upsell offer on 4/19, which we ignored. We then received one on 4/26, which we accepted. Waiting for the second one saved us $250 per person compared to the original offer.

If the booking was made through a big box store would the upsell offer come from Holland or the agent for the store?

Neither - as big box stores do not pass on upsell offers (or so I have been told).  And HAL does not go around outside TAs for this.

I just received the second upsell offer on our 5/15 cruise. It's about 20% better than the first offer, which we received a week ago.

Thanks for the update on the upsell!  20% is nice, but you run the risk of not getting a second chance so to speak, plus often the better upsell cabins go first.  Did you take the second offer?

4 weeks, then 3 if I don't take the first, then 2 weeks.  Price goes steadily down.  I wait till the end.  Sometimes I don't get any upsell offers.  I always book the cabin I can live with.  Bottom line, make sure you do that.  It's nasty to be in a loud area, like under a galley kitchen.  Ouch.

No, I didn't but only because we really want to try an Oceanview cabin for this 7-day cruise.  We prefer longer cruises, so if we like the Oceanview, we can afford to cruise more often!

We did take an upsell to a Neptune Suite on the 5/29 return cruise from Alaska. An aft-wrap Neptune Suite was just too tempting.

We took ours. The available room was in a comparable location to our original room. When we originally booked, the only Neptunes available were guaranties, so we opted for a Signature in the location we wanted. This trip is our “consolation” prize to ourselves after canceling our Baltic Cruise on Oceania in a Penthouse Suite… we’re still spending thousands less than we had originally set aside.

Good strategy IMO.  I like to book a Signature suite and then watch for upsells.  On the Vista class ships this has worked almost every time for us, as there are alot of Neptunes on those ships, so they often cannot sell them out.

Booking our cruise through a big box store - Is there a HAL phone number to call for upsells?
