Very interesting! Thanks for posting! 👍 My first thought was, since the article mentions sports betting, that the casino will be playing more(lots more), pro & college sports games so the casinos' patrons can bet on their favorite sports teams?

If they want to get into sports wagering they need to do better...or should I say bettor....for sports fans than they currently do.

Yeah, need to have more sports offerings on ship to properly be able to take advantage of adding Sports Betting.

My husband noticed a change in blacklisted and whitelisted gambling sites/apps when we were on the Valor back in January (he works for a high-profile company in the sports betting space ... possibly one mentioned in this article ...), especially during the NFL playoff games so we started speculating that they might be looking into bringing a partner on to expand with sports gaming onboard ships, especially since they bit the bullet and added NFL Sunday Ticket this past NFL season.

He did mention that it will be interesting to see how the regulate it -- currently, when they roll out their platform to a new state it's regulate by that offering state (even down to what kind of promos they can offer to new bettors), so it will be interesting to see what the regulations are -- if any -- or if they treat it just like the casino and its offshore rules.

I doubt it will have any kind of loyalty status transfer on the sports gaming portion -- you don't get that unless you're betting in Las Vegas proper and you have to make at least one bet at a kiosk to register that you're on-site to receive loyalty points/rating.

It'll certainly beef up sales in the on board sports bars

They definitely need better sports bar setups on the ships. Including a few screens broadcasting games near/around the various lido bars would also be a nice addition. It makes sense when you see where sports wagering is going, a lot of states are moving in that direction because it's an easy way to fill state coffers. Plus, people were/are doing it anyway through offshore outfits.

When I read this, I got really excited. But then I thought about using the app at sea…and how awful carnival internet can be. Hopefully mgm will beef up the technology on board…because right now, you might not get a bet to go through until the 4th quarter!

The technology is changing and while the price may be high right now, it will surely come down over the years. We could see gigabit speeds on ships within the next decade.

The Internet on Princess is fine. Someday Carnival will roll out to the other cruise lines, but it takes investment.

I wonder 🤔 if they will disable when in ports?

I'm not much for sports - but if they start offering wings in the sports bar, I'll be there!

You can get a couple different kinds of wings delivered to the Sports Bar for the $5 fee. Same with pizza, cheesesteak and spicy fried shrimp.

I know they had wings in the RFP on Vista in 2019. I also had coconut shrimp from there. I think they were a $3 up charge. The wings weren’t anything great. I just wanted a late night alternative to pizza.

I've only tried the place one time (Independence OTS in December), but Playmakers had some nice sports bar/pub food options. I've sailed on the Liberty 4 times since then, and every time I walk by the Sports Bar I mentally shrug my shoulders and keep right on walking.

maybe they'll start showing nfl games on the dive in movie screen?  that would be fun.

They already do for the big ones. I watched the Jan 2020 Packers @ 9ers game on Panorama. It was fantastic and so much fun. They handed out blankets and popcorn and lido was rocking! It was very strange watching it from the middle of the ocean and knowing it was taking place at Levi. Having lived near it for many many years, spent many years of my childhood at Great America and driven past thousands of times. It was all a bit surreal but very memorable. The only issue was they didn't show the Titans/Cheifs game on the big screen and it was all but impossible to watch on the small screens they were showing it on (super packed). I'm booked back on in Jan to do another quasi birthdays/football trip but the NFL added a week so it won't be conference championship weekend now but I'm really hoping they show the divisional games on the big screen. I also wish I could do a b2b and catch both but pulling the kids from school for two weeks may be frowned upon. Educational exploration and physics in football maybe? 😁

I wonder if they're adding the sports betting to the hub app or if the betmgm app will actually work at sea.  Or, can we bet at the cashier or something like that too? Also, the games they have available on the TVs are so limited, you won't be able to watch the game you bet on.  boo.  I guess we'll see what happens with it.
