So seas are very calm at the moment but due to storms ahead and to enable us to avoid them, we are missing the Azores and Madeira and going to Tenerife and La Palma!
Better than cruising through a storm!
First world problems!

Same thing happened on our 2018 TA on Jewel, we ended up having lovely warm weather for the crossing which suited me😁.

Looking forward to it! We will be on Jewel in March for the first time.

I will also be on Jewel in March. Curious to hear how they’re managing anytime dining because on Voyager it was very poorly managed. Just got off of Voyager Cruise in October.

I did a transatlantic on Jewel in 2008 and it was fabulous. Also did a Canada New England cruise on Jewel in 2012. Looking forward to being back on her because it’s a beautiful ship.

There are so few passengers that there are no lines for anything!

The staff are amazing everywhere and enjoying the fact that that there are more crew than passengers on this cruise! 😂

Sounds wonderful but I wonder how a Caribbean cruise in March will be.

Probably much more crowded. Voyager out of Boston in October was packed. Lines were the worst I ever experienced at the Windjammer. Waited 30 minutes for a dinner table even with a reservation in MDR.

Well I can only speak for this cruise of course 😀

So Day 2

very lazy day for me - hurray! Nice lie in, missed breakfast, coffee in DL, then an early lunch, pics to follow. Sorry being the rookie at these live reviews, I forgot to take a pic of the menu but have pics of the food! I had smoked potato soup with chorizo and thyme oil - delicious, baked cod with almonds, spinach, roasted cauliflower and mash, also delicious. Followed by fresh fruit which I didn’t get a pic of but you already know what fresh fruit looks like!

The afternoon was lovely and sunny when the fog lifted but very few people out by the pool, a few in the solarium.

Had a wash and blow dry in the salon, thank goodness for OBC, their prices are eye watering, especially for us poor Brits with current exchange rate.

Now to get ready for formal night.

We were on Jewel for 18 days, we disembarked as you embarked. The ship was full for our 2 sailings but easily managed by the great crew. We are heading back to the states on Wonder, one of the other "competition" ships. Makes me 'Wonder' now if ours will be full?

If you can please stop by Schooner for great drinks,  mention to John & Renaldo, they are both TERRIFIC that Brian & Guyla miss them. If you like Martini's Renaldo will make you one that is his good friends recipe, one of the best I have ever had!

We also in 2019 had some of the best excursions in the Canary islands. Each has its own feel and we will always remember them. Enjoy, looking forward to reading your review and safe sailing!

We passed Gibraltar at dusk with light fog. Saw a couple of lights and only the outline of The Rock.

As Dee has said, it is very quiet and very pleasant aboard.

They are doing a good job with all the elite members on the ship. They are only allowing suite guests in the concierge lounge. As such there are only about a dozen or so couples at any one time. Food is quite good as is the service. The hotel director came in last night for a few words with each table.

Everyone else is in the Diamond Lounge but they have added a ton of space. They have blocked off the entire 13th deck bar as Diamond space. They have also blocked off all the space and bar aft of the Schooner Bar.  The food in both of those areas is the same as the Suite Lounge, varied, interesting, and well prepared. Plenty of waitstaff are in both larger areas, also.

The Windjammer is quite good also. Everything is hot. Good soups and well done entres for all tastes. The desserts are also better than other RCCL cruises that we have taken this year. The coconut cream pie at lunch was really well done. At dinner, they had a bananas foster station.

Is Jake...not from State Farm, from the Philippines! still part of the entertainment crew? Along with Joy (France), Jerry (Mexico City) and Kat (Isle of Man)?

Spent many an activity with them over 24 days! They were all great!

Leaving Barcelona on a TA next Friday Nov 4th on Vision.  Love reading your updates!  Please post what the weather is like once you get to the open ocean 😁

The weather is great, warm and sunny though it was very foggy yesterday morning. Seas are smooth and calm - Lake Atlantic 😀

Sorry Robin I don’t see the entertainment crew much but will check the, out if I can.

Brian and Guyla, I will look out for them in the Schooner. 🥂

Last night I actually went to the show! 4 great singers (I have to find their name as it was a change of production from the one printed in The Compass), they were very good. Sang stuff from Nessus Dorma, Bohemian Rhapsody through to Elvis. Great voices, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dinner I had in the MDR and again forgot pics! What a terrible reviewer I am 🙄 I think I have a pic of the menu on my phone so will upload shortly.

I had calamari with fennel slices, roast duck with orange sauce and the cheese plate, washed down with glass of Pinot Grigio. All delicious.

After the show I went to the casino and still no Poker 😢 so I played for a little while at the 3 card poker and Ultimate poker tables and came away with $100 win. All helps with this exchange rate! 😂

I drank a couple of Brandy Alexander’s for the first time in about 40 years! They were delicious, nice night caps.

Clocks went back by an hour so now back to where I started at UK time.

Day 3

Had room service breakfast on my balcony and now getting ready to do my walk around the deck, twice if I can. I have some minor mobility issues with my knees and hips but need to move! 💃🏽

Then onto the Blackjack tournament after lunch and our roll call slot tournament after that! 🤞

I’ll check out my phone for pics now and see you later

cheers

Pat

That duck has been my favourite meal on RCL for years, it makes me smile when people say the food has gone downhill because I've been eating that almost every cruise since 2006 (can't remember if it was on our first RCL cruise in 2003) and it's always served the same and tastes good.

Also love a Brandy Alexander as a nightcap.

Really enjoying this review, not doing a TA this year but feels like we're sailing along with you.😀

Looking forward to reading your review.

We are onboard in March. In a deck 9 larger balcony cabin as well. I would love to see some cabin, bathroom and balcony pic if possible. Thanks. Enjoy your cruise!

Deck 9 is where it is at! I’m in 9594, I’m out and about for pre dinner drinks but here is a photo I took earlier of my balcony.  If this is your cabin I would be happy to take more pictures on a sea day. I was nervous being this close to the Centrum, but no noise or smoke in my room (caveat very laid back, relaxed cruise). It is just what I hoped for balcony wise. Being on the back side of the hump protects from the wind and on the shade side for the transatlantic.
