Lol.  You must be kidding.  On my last couple of cruises when multiple ships were in port there were often no taxis around.  Any taxi that arrived was filled immediately.

We found the taxis much faster than the uber in October off of the Allure.  Around the same price to FLL.

I believe I have been on 6 sailings out FLL since the restart, have only self carried off…Even with multiple ships in port, if you self carry off and even if you’re one of the last people to self carry off, you won’t have any issues getting a taxi

I've only cruised half as much, but my experiences have been much different than yours.

We used a taxi last week to get to the Renaissance FL Marina as I didn’t have phone service. Never again! Cab was filthy. I hadn’t been to FLL in years but knew it was close by, he turned the wrong way and when I pointed out our hotel, he said it was a condo!? He took us to the Hilton Marina and when I said it was the wrong hotel, he took us back. I paid him in cash and he asked for a tip! What! I just said no, because he took us to the wrong hotel and didn’t listen when I pointed out the right one. I felt like saying, “No, because you’re bad at your job!”. Next time, I will be sure to use Uber or Lyft.

We took a taxi to the Miami airport after disembarking the Edge last week.  I think it was pier 25. No problem finding one, there was a long lineup of them waiting by the cruise transfer busses. Cost $75 plus tip.  Uber might have been cheaper but the cab was so easy we just hopped in.  It a was a bigger SUV which could easily accommodate all our luggage. We were however one of the last to leave the ship around 930am so there were not huge crowds to contend with.

absolutely.  We checked the lyft and uber status on our phones and went directly to the cabs.

Can i ask if they wanted cash or were you able to put it on your credit card?  Just curious, i havent taken a taxi in years because either dont take credit cards, or pressure you to use cash.  wondering if things are finally changing with them.  thx

Celebrity offered their shuttle to FLL @ $15.90 a person.  Our flight makes it doable.  Must be later than 11:30 am.  We're in.

A taxi is cheaper as it's fixed at $20, there's no queuing up/waiting in line, you can head to the airport whenever you want and will be by yourselves

You should stick to rideshare.  Many will still pressure you to use cash; I hate using cash but use it here as it speeds up you getting on your way.  I always ensure I have $23 ($20 taxi, $3 tip) on hand; easy to get change at the casino cashier or guest services

you can do either.  edited.  I was pulling out cash to pay and my husband had already inserted the credit card.  The taxi driver said to me yes it's cash or card.

Ok, so it is cheaper.  You say no problem getting a taxi and someone else says they are not waiting.  I just want easy.  Not a cluster F, with 100 people waiting.  Not opposed to Lyft. I have not cruised out of a bit port in years and don't know what to expect.

Uber/Lyft:  Has dynamic pricing, it CAN be cheaper but is because they have so much demand from all the ships.  I don't see how it's a cluster and its fine to use just be ready for it to take a bit to arrive

Taxi:  I've been there several times from 715am-815am, no problems getting taxi's if you self carry

Makes no sense. Even as a single traveler I'd take a cab which is roughly the same price.

We are driving to Port Everglades on 1/15/23.  Our Celebrity Refection's terminal is 29 and I believe we have to park in the Palm parking garage.  I will first drop off my luggage at the terminal and curious about getting from the garage to terminal 29.  I know they offer a shuttle but is it too far to walk?

It actually is not fixed, but that is what the driver will push you to accept--$20 flat fee, cash only.  However, it's actually the meter rate (about $12), and you can use a credit card.  There is no actual flat rate, and there are signs around that say so (at least around some terminals)  The driver is fleecing you a bit.  The driver basically rings in the metered fare and pockets the rest (including that extra few bucks you give him).  Some folks are okay with that, and others are not, but it's good to know either way.

I recall one particular driver who was pushing the $20 flat rate.  I knew the real deal but just got into the cab.  Hell, the sign stating (NO FLAT RATE) was right there where he picked us up.  His meter was running (because it would be against the law for him to take a fare otherwise).  He gave me a tremendous raft of attitude when I told him I wanted to use a credit card, but I held firm, and he took it (because he had to).  A jerk and a thief.

Not to mention that those cabs can be nasty.  These days, most of the folks driving cabs are the ones that can't get on with rideshare outfits for one reason or another.

I will always check Uber and Lyft before hopping into a cab unless I just can't spare the time.

Good to know with the flat rate...I 100% agree many cab drivers have bad attitudes, I avoid them where ever possible but have had consistent bad luck at Port Everglades with rideshare drivers cancelling rides...Often the rideshare amounts are right around $20 anyways

Very true once you add in the tip.  It's usually around the same $12 or so, and I typically don't tip less that $5 for a good ride regardless of the actual price of the ride.  Still, I would rather do that for someone who doesn't try to jerk me around even it means I have to wait as much as 10 minutes.

I guess we've been lucky about catching a ride upon leaving.

Really interesting thread! Pros and cons for both cabs and Ubers/ Lyfts. Now I am more undecided than before. Ugh.  It's our first time at Port Everglades and FLL. We will disembark from the Apex on Saturday, the 14th of Jan. We wanted to see a bit of FLL before flying home to Montreal. Our flight leaves in the evening. DH and I thought we'd cab it to the airport, drop off our luggage (only carry-on - trying to travel light) in storage for the day and then cab it to Riverwalk to start our exploration using the water trolley.

Due to the freedom of having an exploration day, we were going to disembark late (around 9:30?) with our carry-ons.... is that still considered a super busy time grabbing rides (cabs or others) everywhere? I think there were several folks here who said that'd be no problem but there was at least one whose experience differed.

We did not book the Celebrity shuttle transfer as I read that cabs to the FLL airport were ranging around $15 from Port Everglades (so half the cost). Hope to be successful getting a cab between 9:30 and 10 am... 🤞🙏

Just a quick note on our experience last month, 12/23, we got off apex around 9, no rush given our flight wasnt until 1.  Once we walked out, we were directed to go either right or left, right, buses and taxies i think, left private pickup or ride share.  We ordered a uber premium SUV, suburban,  and it was there in about 5 minutes.  price to FLL was around $50.  I dont know if we just got off at the right time, but i dont think it could have been any easier for us and i didnt think the price was bad for that type of vehicle.  Also, we carried off our luggage which i think makes the previous night a lot less stressful not having to think about what to save out for the next day and possibly forgetting something. Like shoes which we have done in the past.  I guess better that than pants...

We got off of Equinox on 12/26 at about 8 AM. My DH needed wheelchair assistance off the ship due to a recent back issue. I called for a Lyft XL once we were through customs. It arrived in under 5 minutes to take us to our hotel in Ft. Lauderdale. We had a TON of luggage due to a week in Orlando pre-cruise and a week after the cruise of various visits along the way home. The driver loaded all of our luggage, took us to our hotel and loaded the luggage into our car. The total with a VERY generous custom tip was $30.
