Sun Princess - Original

So Princess is promoting the Sun Princess 2024 Mediterranean Itinerary. Nice. I just wish their deck plans had more information on them, to generic. I know, it is still 14 months away. More than likely, it will be at least 6 - 8 months before we see actual locations of bars, pools, restaurants, shops, the buffet, etc.  At least Crooners is mentioned somewhere on deck 8. Some information says the indoor/outdoor pool is located in "The Dome".  More information please.

Just having some fun but would still like more information.  Looking forward to the new ship.

It seems a selection of new pictures have been added to the Princess website under Sun Princess. Looks good. There is also more detail on the various venues on the deck plans albeit names only listed rather than actual detail on the plans.

Thanks. A lot more information than what Princess has on their website.

WOW! "World Fresh Market" buried on deck 9. That's a big change from the Lido Deck location. And there is no bar showing anywhere on deck 9.

On deck 8 is the "Wake View Club' and the closet bar is Crooners mid-ship in the Piazza.  That's a long walk to get a drink in your bathing suit or to wait for your drink to be delivered if ordered on the app.

I'm guessing the deck plans still needs more updating.

Thanks again.

Been wondering about the location of buffet for a while.

It could be a major change now, but in 10 years it could be the "standard" and maybe we will all wonder why they put the buffet on top decks of ships back in the 90s and 2000s.  For a time, many ships in the 70s and 80s had their large pools on the aft fantails with adjacent buffet - new ships and old converted ships alike.

Largely to distribute passengers throughout the ship, instead of the public areas all being together. Also make it easy for anyone using the upper decks and the pool to grab lunch.

Princess apparently has decided that it is better to use the space for high end suites for their new ship within a ship system.  Kind of like when NCL built the Haven suites on some of their older ships.

And putting them aft is similar to the NCL Prima.

Probably also consolidates the major prep areas and kitchens much closer.  Then the lines only have to take ingredients for pizza, hot dogs, and hamburgers up to the top decks.

There are a number of videos showing tours of P&O’s Iona and now Arvia. I would imagine that Sun will have far more similarities than differences. Certainly not exact. But those videos should give one a sense of what life on board a Sphere Class ship will be like.

Not really. The Iona uses a conventional layout with buffet on Lido. It also is not ship with in a ship concept. Though some of the dining room locations are probably in similar spots.

The placement of the buffet will clearly be different. The ship within a ship concept appears to be overblown based on recent promo videos. They mention a special area in the Sanctuary and some deck space for Cabana cabins. Not much else. Ben and David’s tour of Iona looks very, very similar to what Princess has shown us so far. The big changes in the Sphere Class are to the Piazza and the forward dome. Iona and Arvia look nearly identical in that respect.

There is more to it than that there will be two class specific dining rooms and two class specific lounges (one for each of the two classes). There are two elevators in the back that if they are restricted connect the upper deck suites and cabana cabins to those venues.

The comparison between Iona and sun will be less similar than Royal and Britania which is also built on the same platform as the Royal.

A few specifics

Iona theater on deck 6 and 7 pretty standard

Sun kind of a theater in the round

on Sun deck 7 you have the Signature restaurant and the reserve collection restaurant

Iona pearl  mdr deck 6, Coral mdr deck 7

Sun's Horizons dining room 6,7,8

Iona deck 8 is club house entertainment venue this would be similar to the Vista lounge of existing Princess ships. Sun does not have a similar venue, though Princess Live is larger.  Maybe the Dome will take the place of the third entertainment venue.

major changes up on top

Iona buffet 16 Lido stern

Sun all cabins except for the Signature lounge at stern and sea view terrace at bow

Deck 17 on Iona crows nest, specialty dining venues, a few cabins, Sun deck, sky bar and kids clubs

Deck 17 on Sun deck bow, entire back half cabins

Deck 18 Iona the retreat, beachcomber pool and bar,  jogging track, panorama pool and bar

Deck 18 Sun the dome, open Sun deck, an undefined space, the Sanctuary  near stern, behind Sanctuary you have the Signature Sun deck

In general cabin sizes are smaller on Iona and it has a higher passenger load  but appears to have more public common space. Signature class seems to have a lock on upper deck stern areas on Sun.

Basically lots of differences.
