I think Princess weighed the options. It was either delay the ship for yet another sailing (or several) and have to refund a whole slew of passengers after they already did that twice before, losing a ton of revenue and creating a lot of ill will with passengers and bad press for the delay. Or they just launch the ship as is with unfinished areas and issues that are all temporary, give some small credits out and deal with some disgruntled passengers onboard some of whom might complain on social media.

Seems as if they found a middle ground third option.  Send people on the March 9th sailing a moveover offer ensuring that the ship sails way below capacity so that they can better stress-test the new ship, while also ensuring that the people who do board the ship are fully onboard (pardon the pun) with the fact that they will be getting a "less than" experience.  People who reject the offer and opt to board the ship will be doing so with eyes wide open and can hardly be heard to complain. (Though they will anyway.)

March 9 is like right when Spring Break starts.

Princess probably didn't get enough people to naturally cancel their booking so that they could pocket the partial or full fare without doing anything

Reminding us, no matter what the hassles or shortcomings might be...

This is why we cruise Princess!!!

I am seeing from fb, posts that show flooding, no water, no flushing, food in buffet limited hours, line ups for dining, entertainment venues not operational, port changes etc.  Granted some occur on any cruise.

I am also seeing wonderful, glowing reviews about the SUN- first sailing.

I personally would not accept this as ok as a full paying passenger.

Tip: it costs more, get travel insurance for non refundable expenses, have a back up plan.

No travel insurance covers the non-refundables under the situation we experienced where the cruise line cancelled their own cruise.  All passengers who reported how that worked out said the insurers insisted that was Princess’ responsibility.

Spring Break is largely irrelevant for European cruises.

So, is Princess overbooked or are they trying to incentive people to move to a different itinerary because the Sun is failing to live up the Princess standards set forth in their promotional literature and what regulars have come to expect?

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure having read Processes passage contract that we all agree to when signing up for a cruise, princess could deny embarkation to every passenger that has a four in their state room number because the captain is dating a Chinese girl that is superstitious. I know it would not actually happen, but where I'm going is Princess is given a tremendous amount of leeway in their contract to deny any party embarkation for any reason. Considering travel insurers are passing it on to princess ... It would be a quagmire.

But the flaw in this logic is that not all passengers got an offer, nor did Princess disclose WHY they were making these offers…so those passengers don’t have all the information (what will be open, what won’t) to make an informed decision.

Actually there are some policies that will, though many do not.

Or they need some rooms for contractors continuing to work on the ship.

As someone who was booked on the 18th and followed the whole debacle leading into the cancellation of the 8th…and followed the aftermath on many forums with many affected passengers, not one passenger reported having a policy where any of our expenses were covered.  If you are aware of one, please do share the details because I am sure 9,000 of us would be interested in that information…it seems if the cancellation was due to adverse weather or circumstances beyond the cruise line’s control, those circumstances would be covered, but not in the case where the cruise line didn’t have their ship ready and elected to cancel.

And the bulk of it is the week before and the week after Easter in most schools.

They are actually using the March 9th cruise for influencers and media. Looks like they are breaking them up into 5 day cruises, so they aren't on all 10 days. Could be why they are offering the moveover offers

Started this week in Arizona. Many of the kids are gone to Mexico. Yes, this is irrelevant too!

Depends on your travel insurance policy. I have heard otherwise from some.

Currently boarding a plane. Will provide specific cases after I get home. Starting with some cancel for any reason policies.

The lady who posted these photos on fb, just received a Goodwill credit of $200 and said she received $60 credit pp, not per day, at the start of the cruise.

OFF TOPIC again...  but

Here is an older Crooner's menu, with some of those martinis.

They are listed under DECADENT MARTINIS.

Sad that half of these are over the 15. limit....

So the Milky Way is basically just a mudslide (non-frozen version) without the cream.

Thank you so much for the awesome photos and very useful information you have been providing since the beginning of this thread.

It has been truly wonderful.

We have heard that those two elevators are for the suite folks that have Signature benefits so they can easily access the ship and Signature Lounge.

Hoping someone can confirm in the near future.

Thanks again.

@CaptainKirk The 2 aft glass elevators service decks 8 thru 18.  While they can be used by anyone who knows of their existence, they would be the fastest way for passengers residing in any of the “S” level suites located at the aft end of the ship, to quickly/easily access the suite lounge, or suite sun deck.
