I’m in North Jersey, so I’m just going to Uber/Lyft. Going in will be a snap. However, I’m not sure about coming home since I think the rideshares technically don’t work in NY, so I think I need to pay more for someone to come from Jersey to get me. Does anyone know about that or if they just have yellow cabs waiting at the pier for people to take? I’m guessing cab rates would be significantly higher than rideshare.

Rideshares are definitely an option in NYC. Getting a cab to take you to Jersey could be a real issue, but Uber and Lyft will be an option it might take a while for someone to accept your ride. For a cab you'll have to negotiate with the driver, they have every right to refuse trips out of the 5 Boroughs - likely offering to pay double price (and tolls) for them to make the return trip to the city since they won't be able to pick anyone up in Jersey (which a rideshare will be able to do)

I've done a local limo service, from a port in NJ, to the Manhattan Dream hotel.  It was a Caddy sedan and was reasonably priced.

Don't count on taxis if you come back on a weekday.   I learned this last year coming back on a Thursday on Norwegian Gem.   No available taxis to be found; I assume most were busy getting people to work.  (first time I had ever seen this although most times we come back from a cruise on Sat or Sun)

I took an Uber to Penn Station and took the train to NJ.

You can find cars that will take you to NJ but it's not usually reasonably priced.

In Nov. We took an Uber to Brooklyn for a Princess cruise from E. Brunswick NJ.  The driver was not happy because he says he is not allowed to pick up another fare in NY. So has to come back to NJ empty.  He also says he does not know where his passengers are going until he gets there.  It was a reasonable $75.  We will try to do this again in October but will probably have to Uber into NYC and take a train or bus back home.

If true that would not be good. We've used a car service before so we would probably do that instead. 😎

Well they certainly made a liar out of me. They deleted 2 lines on their page, so we all pay 45/night no matter what. Glad I didn't opt for the 2 week cruise, parking would have been more than the cruise. I had a casino deal, lol. They get you one way or the other.

Do you know if there are any limitations on the size of vehicle?  We have a GMC Full Size Truck, and just don't want to get there and be told it is oversized.

The website says no extra charge for oversize vehicles, however maximum height is 8'.

We're going the car service route. No way I'm paying $675 for a 15 day cruise! 😠

Being from Jersey, we have the option of taking the NJ Transit train to NY Penn Station then taxi to the Manhattan cruise terminal.   Lugging the baggage and not knowing who will sitting in your car is a detriment but haven't had any problems yet.  🤞

What county are you in. I'm in Ocean County. Never even though about the train. Car service is not looking promising.

In the past I've gotten a ride to the Point Pleasant Beach train station, I don't believe you can park long term or overnight in their lot. You have to switch trains in Long Branch then that takes you to Penn Station then just a taxi or Uber to the cruise terminal.

Thanks, I was checking things last night. I thought I saw something that transfer, but wasn't sure.I've never used a bus or train, so it's a learning experience.

Where are you in Ocean? My husband works in Ocean and we live in Mercer. We live near the Hamilton Station. Its a much safer station than Trenton to leave your car and easy to get here via 195. No transfers needed...direct to NY Penn

I also agree with the previous poster who said getting a weekday cab at the port when debarking is impossible based on past experience! We purposely planned our Venezia cruises to come back on weekends.  I have a journeys cruise for 2024 booked and it comes back on a Friday...I'm dreading it.

Hi friend,  can you share who you use since we're not too far south of you?  Ordinarily we just hop on NJ transit since we live near a station, but we've booked a Journeys cruise with friends in Feb 2024 and were thinking of car service since its 4 of us, extra luggage, etc.

I didn't realize about Hamilton, thanks for the info, but I just priced out Hamilton w/parking, Pt Pleasant with uber to get there, and Long Branch with no idea how to get there, lol. By the time all is said and done, might as well pay the parking. A bus is a possibility as I'm real close to the Toms River terminal, but now seeing this about taxi's on weekdays, yikes, plus the luggage. I'm starting to regret booking out of Manhattan or Brooklyn, got a double whammy going here.

The last time we used Taurus which is in Somerset and they were very reasonable. But that was in September 2019, so I'll be checking the pricing of about half a dozen nearby car services prior to our Venezia cruise in September. Probably book one in August. 😎

Following this as we have a july cruise booked, and have never been to NYC.

Currently we have the transfer from the terminal to Laguardia booked through Carnival, but the reviews (what few there are) seem to point to that being a nightmare.

I had considered just getting an Uber to the airport, but being a monday morning, it seems like that may be an ordeal as well?

So private car is something I had not considered until now.  I am curious if we go that route where they are likely to pick up?  Can they come into the terminal, or would it be pickup off site somewhere?

Car service can come to the terminal..but debark is a cluster in NYC.  It's a very small pickup area and very chaotic trying to flag down your car bc there is no easy place for them to wait and they are thrown back out in 1 way traffic.  Even grabbing an uber was difficult. One year we actually crossed the main highway and went to the other side to get a ride.  If it's a weekday, I'd stick with your carnival transfers at debark.

We've also done the train to taxi or Uber many times for NYC cruises.   Quite easy.   We ask to get dropped off at 12th & 48th-ish (where the light is) instead of bothering to go up to the turnaround at 55th.  Cross 12th ave at the light.

-----------------------------

For pickups back to wherever you need to go, even private rides we have pick us up outside the terminal on 12th Avenue or a corner spot.   I prefer to be out of the chaos once a ship is unloading thousands of peeps.

Just a heads up. As of 4/1, parking is now $45/night. I didn't realize it til somebody on fb commented on it.

Parking Rates*
No short-term parking No show parking
Cruise Parking
1 to 10 nights
$45.00/per night
(effective April 01, 2023)
Extended Cruise Parking
11 to 14 nights

Thank you for the update on pricing. Still cheaper them flying 5 people round trip to Fla and baggage cost.
