Crew Show

On our Seattle to Sydney cruise last fall 2022 on the Westerdam, we had a crew talent show that was really good.  Our CD sang a song from a play she performed in during her time off the ship.  It was amazing.

But the Filipino and Indonesian shows appear to be a thing of the past.  On the final cruise of the old Statendam a few years ago, we were given a uclet Indonesian instrument as they were no longer needed.  It's a pleasant memory for us.

On hold as a regular show (both Indonesian and Filipino) since the Covid restart. Could make a come back in the future since the involved crew liked showing their culture to their audiences, and those same audiences seemed to appreciate and like the shows. Time will tell

No luck with photos this morning.  But the 2022 Grand Africa Voyage had a

Crew Talent Show in December.  Many individuals and groups competed, including the familiar Filippino stick dance and my Lido breakfast server Prand from Thailand.  She danced a lovely Thai dance and was the humble winner.

Our best crew show was actually on a Royal Caribbean ship, and I am sure it was made up at the last minute as it was the last night on a 5 day cruise that turned into a 7 day cruise as a hurricane prevented the ship from returning to Fort Lauderdale on time. One of the assistant cruise directors even changed the ship's name from Enchantment of the Seas to Entrapment of the Seas.

Grand Africa 2022 had a crew show.  It was wonderful.

They gave prizes of "time off", "day off" to the first 2 or 3 places.  The judges were

the captain and two other officers - maybe CD was one of 3 judges.

In my opinion all performances were quite remarkable and all were winners.  It would have been

better if they all got some time off, or a small reward for one of the best shows of the 72 day cruise.

On the Christmas 2022 Konigsdam, our Canaletto waiter reminded us about the "crew show" that night, since he was in it. We saw no other notice.

When we told him about enjoying these in the past and seeing the "bamboo sticks and candle dances" he laughed and said those were old fashioned, and that is not what they were doing that night - he claimed he was the Hal Elvis Presley for this crew show.

Unfortunately we find that 11:00 hour much to late for us, so we did not attend. But his enthusiasm about the crew show was warm and welcoming. So apparently some crew shows sill go on.

We were on the Noordam in October and November, 2022 from San Diego to Sydney.  We had a crew show during the afternoon of a sea day.  We also had a passenger show demonstrating their newly learned ukulele and hula dancing skills.  Both shows were fun.

We were also on that cruise. The show was wonderful. The crew also did a Christmas Eve concert  that was spectacular. Some very talented crew members.
