Japan 2024 canceled…

Just to add some more drama.  I've checked multiple cruise port schedules and future literary sites and there is a window missing for the Millennium.  It arrives in Singapore on March 4th, 2024 then nothing until April 21st from Yokohama. I've checked each port on the cruise I'm on and no Celebrity ships are in any of them during that time.

That is still quite curious….

One would hope all of the comped cabins for Blue Chip members would be the first canceled.   Anyone on a comped cruise should go before those paying full fare.

If all that matters is who gave more money to X, it would be gamblers.  Why do you think gamblers get those free cruises (rhetorical)?  It's because...

1)  The house always wins

2)  To receive a comped room, you have a gamble a significant amount; those who play penny slots are receiving free cruises

3)  Most gamblers lose more than full fare

4)  There are some slot players who will spend virtually the entire sea day at the same slot machine hoping to hit the jackpot; personally never understood this

5)  Many gamblers when winning freely spend their winnings on the ship...Hit it big, celebrate with a specialty restaurant dinner and buy a handbag

Maybe the original title is actually correct? Maybe in addition to the computer glitch mentioned recently by author, perhaps someone at Celebrity "forgot" to book port space in Japan for March and early April itineraries?

That's who we are booked with. Some people who are on our roll call have been involuntarily cancelled but we couldn't get cancelled even when we asked.

UPDATE!!!!  Ok folks, Im the Original Poster.  Friends of ours were also booked on this cruise and have also been canceled.  They finally got through to Celebrity a few mins ago and talked to the head lady of the Concierge Team.   She said anyone booked after October 2021 in Verandas (for the most part) would be canceled (this is for the April 9th cruise at least…I don’t know about the others).  That is the date when the lift and shift was done.   Their system for some reason saved the reservation but didn’t pull cabins out of allocation. We had booked 14mos ago…spring 2022…so naturally we were chopped.

In hindsight, Celebrity really should ask for volunteers first to do another lift and shift rather than doing forced cancelations.  That might not have resolved the entire problem, but perhaps it would have lessened the impact on so many people???

This is the first explanation I have heard that makes any sense.  I hope it’s true.  Sorry you were canceled, but thanks for getting back to us.  Maybe those of us booked in 2020 can finally breathe a sigh of relief…..maybe.

It will be a wonderful cruise, hopefully you will not canceled either….we are really bummed…but nothing we can do about it…one day it will happen…just can’t believe we have been canceled 3 times (first 2 were on Silversea)..

Are any of those who have been cancelled in the European Union? I was wondering if we have better protection due to the Package Holiday directive and the ship being registered in Malta (just another theory)

I have mailed the local agent in Belgium, asking her to check the status of our reservation before we book our plane tickets. We are on the 28 March sailing

Explanation does not account for oversold interior cabins.

Why didn't they ask for volunteers? I was on a RC cruise from Copenhagen to NYC in 2012. We got a call from our agent saying they had oversold and would we consider an offer. They offered us a full refund of cruise and air and a voucher for the amount again. We jumped at the offer as my mum was very ill and I didn't want to be at sea out of contact for a long time. We got all our money back and booked another transatlantic for the year after in a suite as we had such a big voucher. Surely that would have been a way to keep all passengers happy.

So far around 30 people have reported cancellations, Spread across October November March and April cruises .They have been a mix of travel agent and celebrity direct bookings, a mix of earlier and later bookings, a mix of guarantee and assigned stateroom, and spread out over several decks. So nobody can really find a pattern.

The most bizarre ones were one case where there were six state rooms booked together all linked, and three of them got canceled and another case where there were two state rooms booked together, again with the reservations linked, and one got canceled. And at least one case where there was a back to back situation but only one of the cruises just got canceled and not the other.

A couple of separate parties on FB claim to have been told that cancellations were being determined by price paid for the cruise.

How did they suggest that works? We still have our verandah booking, touch wood, a high deck and deposit paid for with the extra 25% FCC from 2020, meaning we are getting a 13 day cruise for NZD5674 including premium drinks, wifi and tips plus USD400 OBC. Do they suggest deals like ours are being selected for cancellation?

That would make sense commercially - maximise income.

I suspect that would not please everyone esp those who scored a 'fabulous deal'. Someone suggested they withdraw the 'comped' casino cabins.

I was originally booked on the Solstice and shifted to the Millenium and saved a fortune 🙂

Has anyone received a response back from ExecutiveOffice@celebrity.com to see what is going on?

I just sent my e-mail asking for information.

I sent an email Monday evening and got a response Tuesday morning.  But they were not the best responses either.

I don’t think that can be true. We have 2 inside cabins booked on 28th March and so far have not been cancelled. We got an unbelievable deal on them as we booked just after they were released  so pretty sure we have paid one of the lowest prices.

I really wish Celebrity would have asked for volunteers to move to a later date. We would have jumped on that as we are not sure our daughters can go now due to a change in university term times/exams but we have a non-refundable deposit.

Reading different people’s accounts there seems to be no rhyme nor reason as to why certain people have been cancelled.

Apologies, senior moment.  Booked 28th March what year and what year is your sailing ?

Is it possible that the person in the system that booked the actual stateroom first is being held as the priority customer and those after, by time stamp are being canceled, regardless of stateroom category? Since it seems the IT glitch was the cause of over bookings and room numbers weren't taken out of inventory.

Just a theory! This is a shame for so many, Celebrity can and should do better than this!
