Yeah opening myself up to a lambasting either way so...

Dh tested positive...two home tests and a clinic.    Clinic told him to quarantine for 72 hours then mask up in public for x number of days. I dont remember how many.

We really pondered and stressed. In the end we excluded dd's friend from the equation and ruled out dh lying on his questionnaire.  Yes there is one and it asks if you've had symptoms in the most recent so many days.

Taking everything into account, including dd and my health, as well as there being no available cruises prior to the school year (including if we flew to a port) that we could switch to....   we landed on what seemed like the best option.

We decided dd and I would go tomorrow.  I booked a flight and car service for dh to meet us at a port knowing he'd miss the embarkation tomorrow.  He'd be meeting us after the quarantine period and masking up as directed.

In the end we couldn't go all of us tomorrow and feel good about it.  As an aside, dd's friend is able to join us given that dh won't be joining us for the first couple days.  Additionally, dh is taking the anti viral as prescribed.

No trip will be 100% guaranteed illness free. We're doing the best we can. This was an extraordinarily stressful day and decision, and I know that no matter what, there are people who will disagree with what we decided to do.

Nah, you're making the right choice for you by salvaging your vacation while holding the policy to the letter.

Nothing about this is or was easy.  We're trying to be decent to others and to ourselves.

Have you talked to Royal about him meeting you at a port? Are they still allowing this?

A no go in what way?

I called RCCL yes. I asked what would happen if someone missed the embarkation but could feasibly meet us/the ship in Florida.   I was told that immediately upon said person missing sailaway, I should go to guest services to advise them so that they can give me instructions on how they can board at a different port.   If she had told me he couldn't we'd have canceled.

If he gets there and is turned away all I can do is deal with it then.  I'm not sure why it'd be any different from anyone missing boarding under any other circumstances.   We're paying, we have insurance but if he were working and arrived late to port....what would be the difference?   Leaving from USA catching up in USA.

I'm late to this story but sorry to hear what you are dealing with.

Hope DH is doing OK and has a quick recovery.

Thank you. You were there for the chaos last time when it was me.  I'm starting to think I should examine other vacation options.

Nah, when the next one goes smoothly you'll be wondering what's going on.

They stopped allowing this. You can Google it. Downlining a Royal Caribbean cruise.

Sorry about your situation.

I would reach out via social media, twitter or facebook and ask the question about catching the cruise at a later port.  That way you have it in writing.

Does the health questionnaire still ask if you have had close contact with someone who had flu, noro or covid?

Yes I understand.  The bottom line is if he can't board he'll have to head home.

What doesn't make sense is if people misses boarding for whatever reason...they'd have to get to the ship on their own dime. They're minimizing risk...i get it. So if he has to take a covid test then he will... but it's really no different from people missing their ship and using insurance to catch up. Except we're not using insurance.

It asks if you're vaccinated, boosted, going to be 23 weeks pregnant or showing symptoms.

They don't allow the catch up with the ship on your own dime anymore. And they never were crazy about it in the first place. Did it multiple times. (Don't ask)

My guess is it's because there is paperwork/computer work and mostly you have to be escorted. I guess they just don't have the man power these days. They really use to hate doing it for me.

If he is allowed to board, check to see if this is covered by the Trip Interruption provision of the insurance because his departure was delayed beyond the scheduled  date for a covered reason.

You can use the documentation from the clinic that tested and advised 72 hour quarantine.

Does the cruise originate in NJ? If so they likely won’t allow him to join in Florida, that would be a PVSA violation to board in Florida and disembark in NJ.

A hefty fine. Your right. I never even thought of this.

At the time the ship arrives in Florida it would not have visited a foreign port...but it will after.

Again if he can't he cant.  it would suck but it felt like the best option under the circumstances.

Look up pvsa. The fact that he would start in Florida but end in NJ would be the problem. Nothing to do with foreign ports.

If you only bought a one way ticket for him to Florida and he can't get on, then you have to spend more to fly him home. Maybe he just sit this one out? Cut your losses on his trip?

I hate you are going through this! Did you buy insurance? If so I probably would cancel the entire trip and get my money back.

Like others have stated you were given bad information and it won’t matter it you have it in writing or not. Your husband will not be allowed to get on the ship in Florida.

Also, if he’s positive there is a very good chance you will also be soon and will have to quarantine on the ship (unless you had it first and gave it to him?). Not a fun vacation!

You mentioned your daughter’s friend now going. Did that friend replace your husband’s name or an additional passenger?

I can't remember your itinerary but doing this could be a violation of the PVSA.

If your cruise is a closed loop cruise (starts and ends at the same US port) you cannot board the ship at a different US port.  He would have to board at a foreign port.
