Either way, they will make an announcement about what is the latest you can cash out.

On our cruise last May there was no announcement made and there was nothing in the Patter. We found out the hard way about the closure.

I am not looking to play for comps or anything else.  I just have some curiosity as to how it works.

I understand what you are saying, that a typical session might result in a loss of 10% of funds.  It could be more or it could be less, if playing fickle machines.  I understand what you are getting at.  But one walks away with $600 after playing for X hours and has lost $400.  Wondering what is gained back through points or future cruise benefits.  I was thinking it doesn't matter whether a guest loses the $400 in half an hour or over 6 nights in the casino.  But perhaps it does.

It has been my experience that while playing the slots, you earn one point for each $3 you put through the machine. It might be slightly different but close. 🙂

The patter gets delivered to us each evening and we look at the next day’s schedule. On cruises that have Victoria stops on the last day the patter will show the casino as closed. There are usually announcements the day before but if you not in the casino every evening you may miss them

We were on 3 cruises in the last year and we were always given notice.

Perhaps we have different ship experiences?

In 2023 we have sailed on Ruby Princess, Emerald Princess, Royal Princess

and twice on Discovery Princess and did not receive any notice in the casino or on cabin phone message.  We have three more cruises this year and will report back.

Why would you expect a phone call ?  We have cruises on all try he ships you mentioned in the last 3 years and alway had announcements late in the cruise. Do you spend all your evenings in the casino on the last few nights ?

Strange.  We have been on Sky, Enchanted, Crown, Caribbean and have been given notice each time and will be on Regal in a few weeks.  I will also report back.
I guess it varies by ship.

I have actually received a call in my cabin reminding me to cash out. I was surprised but pleased. I don't spend a ton of time in the casino - mostly because I just tend to lose. I look at the Patter every night and again in the morning and, if the CD isn't boring as heck - tend to check out the Wake Show either late at night or in the morning. I have a bunch of refundable OBC on our next cruise (we board in 13 days) and it is all in USD. The next 5 segments of the cruise are all in AUD and I don't want Princess adjusting my money to AUD. I will take it out via the casino before the end of the first segment.

I think you have to cash out your Casino account at the end of each segment if they are booked as separate cruises and not a single cruise, Casino accounts don't carry over (at least they didn't) like shipboard accounts.

Or did you mean to clear any OBC / credits?

I tend to cash out every time I play if the cage is open.

I just want to clear out the cash from my refundable OBC. If I don't do that Princess will "roll it over" with a conversion to AUD and I've been told (by @PescadoAmarillo) not to let this happen. I trust her experience on this so will be sure to pull the USD out before the next segment begins.

You are correct.  Guests do have to clear out casino accounts at end of each physical segment, even if they are on a longer voyage (B2Bs).  I don't recall if @Thrak has multiple US segments before his Aussie segment(s), but clearing casino account is a different concept than making sure there is no Refundable OBC left in USD that will be converted to AUD OBC when the next segment begins which is a voyage where the shipboard currency changes from USD to AUD.

Thank you @Papa Yoda and @Steelers36. Although my concern was solely getting my USD out I didn't realize that casino accounts (unlike OBC) don't roll over. That is very good to know. I only have one USD segment but there are 5 others that are all in AUD and I don't want to have anything mailed to me later. I truly appreciate everything I've learned from folks here on CC.

Just returned from Royal Princess

where there were announcements made for two days prior to casino closing.  So my previous experiences this year, no longer reflect current experience.

I must say, if land casinos are any indicator, collecting points on FP is highly unusual. In fact, I have never experienced it myself. But regardless, it is great to hear. It'd also be great if those points were good for something, anything like a free voucher of $X in the gift shop or something. Because they are not, I don't even pay attention to them. Princess will send me their offers or not, whether I track some numbers I have no idea about.

They are good for absolute nothing unless you amass enough to get a decent bounce back offer which would entail much more play. It would be nice to get shop discounts or restaurant discounts but that foes not happen

I think you misunderstand. Assume you have $600 in free play. You spin 600 times for $1, free play gone, 0 points earned. Let's further asdume you continue to play, with whatever $'s you have remaining from your free play. On your 601st spin at $1, you WILL earn points on that that point forward, still no money charged to your room/account,. You will earn points on all you spend with the free play money residual but not the initial free play spins. It just doesn't work the way you described. I had this exact conversation with the Casino Manager on our recent 3 weeks on the Royal Princess. Suggest you do too!

I think Echo is correct.  If you have $600 free play, and stop playing once you  have played the free play, you probably did not earn any points.  But most of us continue to play with the winnings from the first $600 free play.  That additional play does earn points.

On the subject of cashing out casino credit, I was emergency transferred from the Discovery Princess while on a 7 day cruise from Seattle. We made it all the way to Victoria, B. C. when the good doctors decided that it would be for my benefit and health to be transferred to a hospital in Victoria. I told the ships officer that was handling the arrangements that I had a $480 in casino credit on the books in the casino and my wife, who was traveling with me on the ship and in the ambulance, also had a smaller amount ($80 credit). The ships officer told us not to worry and that the funds would be sent to us in a check. It is over a month later and we have heard or received nothing from the casino. Should I be concerned???

You should file claims with the casino department otherwise you could get lost   If you have a CVP they can help

Refund check will take 7-9 weeks.
