Emerald Princess skipping Halifax

Currently on board. Captain made an announcement that due to Hurricane after St John’s tomorrow we will be turn towards NY a day early. Skipping Halifax and coming into Brooklyn a day early. Sitting in Brooklyn port a full day, trapped no casino or boutiques open. Full immigration required Friday morning so people can leave and go into Manhattan. How the hordes will get there is anyone’s question. We want to go home ( an hour away) but they don’t know when we’ll be able to leave the ship. The weather in Halifax is not bad but I guess they want to make sure they are back for the next cruise. No refund for a lost day.

We skipped Newport due to unsafe tendering.  We were given a compensation for a missed port.  I think it was $50.  What time are you arriving in Brooklyn?  Why can't they do immigration on Thursday so that you can at least enjoy NYC on Thursday night?

Hurricane Lee is expected to make landfall in Nova Scotia this weekend.  I can see why the Captain wants to get out of "her" way.

Lee is heading straight for the Halifax area.  Seas are completely different than what you see on a weather app. Of course they want to avoid being in some of the deadliest waters in the world with a storm.

You'll get port fees refunded, and possibly a goodwill credit. We skipped Newport and received $50 each.

The Brooklyn ferry to Manhattan is next to the cruise terminal. Easy peasy to get to Manhattan.

We never go to shops or casino on the ship, and not once have felt trapped. You'll be okay.

Looks like you're headed to Saint John, not St John's.  Just in case you've booked a tour, they are completely different places.

Last year on Caribbean Princess there was a 90 minute wait for the ferry both ways. Taxi for us next time to lower Manhattan.

The Captain has made a correct decision protecting the ship and all on board. You would not be happy being on board during a major storm. Lee is expected to aim directly at N.S.. The seas all along the U.S. east coast are forecast to be very high and rough. I expect that once you clear immigration you will be able to arrange to head home.

These weather events happen. They are part of cruising or any vacation sea or land.

Excellent response and one that we live by.  There is no sense in going into the path of a major storm that risks everyone on the ship.

Lol. So true.
Well unless you’re someone who wants to record videos of deck furniture flying all around, cabin windows being blown out and fellow passengers cursing the captain and Princes for putting them in such conditions while hoping the video goes viral for that coveted “10 seconds of fame” that seems so important these days…

We aren’t sheltering in place, we’re hightailing out of Canada and making a beeline to NY

This was the same on the Emerald last month. We missed Ensenada for hurricaine Hillary. At least for you the crew of the Emerald knows the drill.

Unlike your cruise, we actually did pull up to the dock at Ensenada to wait the storm out, but not allowed to go ashore, so we did not get port charges refunded. You might.

As far as disembarkation, meaning arrival day. Many chose to leave the ship a day early. This was done by decks, by order of top of ship down. They had to file a route deviation at passenger services. We walked off, then got back on the ship after about an hour, though we could have done things at the port if we wanted, then reboarded for the night. Cabin, food and drinks paid. Why not?

Since we did not change day we left the ship, no change to our pickup, but if you do, a change could be made. Easy enough to do.

I’m hoping to hear what is going to change for the 9/16 sailing. Pretty sure we are not headed  up the coast!

Why not? Landfall in Canada is currently looking like 8am Sunday as a Tropical Storm - you won't get there until Wed & Thur.  That being said - Princess will keep you safe.
