Casino Scratcher Tickets

Just wondering about peoples experience with the scratch off tickets available at the casinos. Anybody had any luck with those? I've never purchased any before but have been tempted. I see they generally also can be entered into a second chance draw. Any one had good luck with that as well?

No luck on the cards.  I occasionally buy a few and I believe I may have won 5 or 10 bucks but obviously nothing memorable.   The second chance drawing is on the last night usually at 11 pm and cards are drawn (matbe 3?) for a chance to spin the wheel.  I did get lucky once and was a lucky draw.  I think I won 75 or maybe 125 on the spin which went on the Sign and Sail balance.   All in good fun.

No luck on them in 12 cruises. We actually decided to do the math on them last cruise and found our return on investment was NEVER higher than 30% of what we put in. For example we would spend $60-$75 on various cards and win $20 back. Spend $20 and get back $5. It was never a real win though, and never more than we put in. We decided we are done with them for good LOL. The Ohio lottery scratch offs payout a lot more.

With a regulated state lottery the house advantage is usually 50%. A cruise ship is unregulated so the advantage is unknown, but surely at least 50% and probably much higher. I shake my head a little when I see people playing them and wonder why they would play an unregulated instant lottery with by far the worst odds in the casino. I would never play the scratchers. But, as a shareholder I like that lots of people seem to enjoy playing it and a seemingly a fairly large cash flow to the company. Lastly, to each their own on how they want to spend their gambling/recreation dollars if they enjoy playing them.

I agree but the barrel is full of tickets every cruise.

Not to mention playing scratch-offs is something that nearly everyone can do at their local gas station - most likely with better odds!  For me, going on vacation is all about doing things that I can't (or don't) do at home.
