Military Discount

Recommended Posts

Under Norwegian, it says military discount for veterans up to 10%. Can anyone verify if you normally receive the full 10% off your cruise fare?  I do understand it may not apply to port fees and taxes, but am trying to decide between HAL and Norwegian and $300 off the fare is substantial and may be deciding factor.

Thanks for any insight

Yes. You get 10 percent off the base fare. You will also get a military package in your room and an invitation for a veterans gathering.

I ticked off the box that asked if your were military and got none of that 😞

I did get the 10% military discount and like KSS2013 stated you get an invitation for the veterans gathering.  The gathering was an informal event that had drinks and snacks.  My wife and I (both veterans) enjoyed talking with other brothers and sisters of the armed forces.  Also, NCL asked if anyone wanted to discuss their experiences.  We would see some of the group around the ship and give a small salute to each other.  We will go to the gathering on our next cruise in March.

You have to get verified through id me. Here is a link for you to get verified and then everytime you log into NCL it will give you the 10% off.

We got the discount, but no package or invitation. That was okay with us, though.

the gathering is a one time thing. Some people think that gathering is on every cruise well is not, but you do get 10% off the base fare on every cruise you book.

Our gathering was on the NCL Spirit, it was well planned out and really nice. Enjoy your cruise

The package was a couple of mementos/medals that have found a permanent place in a drawer.

Not a big deal, but I give credit to NCL for honoring Veterans. The bigger deal is the 10% discount.

we were on the b2b dawn last july/august, and both legs of the cruise, we had a cocktail party gathering, as well as the packets on each.

it's the thought that ncl honors the vets that counts.

Not for me.  I have received an invite each cruise since they implemented it.

And I like the 10% off.

Not on the Epic. We just got off of the Epic on a 3 week b2b2b and received 3 packets and an invitation to the military reception for each cruise.

I didn't see anyone mention it but also at the gathering we got our picture taken. We thought it would be available to purchase. The next day there was an envelope in our cabin with a nice 8 by 10 photo.

We had just done the rope course before the event so in our picture we are casual and windblown. If I had known I would have spruced up a bit lol.

Not only do you get the 10% but it is stackanlce in that it is 10% off AFTER any other discounts are applied.

You need to be registered with ID.Me through NCL (prior to booking) in order to receive the discount.

My partner is a veteran and we sailed on the Joy in September of 2023.  Prior to booking with our travel agent, we registered through the NCL military page and confirmed veteran status through ID.me before we booked.  We informed our travel agent to apply the 10% discount, which required some back-and-forth between Travel Agent and NCL.  It all worked out.

On the Guest Confirmation Copy (sent to us from NCL), the promo code “MAP10OFF” was listed at the top right of the first page.  Further down in the document (under “Add-ons”), there was a “1 x Military Appreciation” also listed.  Perhaps one (or both) of these is what triggered the Military Welcome Packet that was in our stateroom upon arrival and also the invitation to the Military Appreciation event.

I hope this helps!

Yeah, one drawback of using a TA is the need for them to put you on hold forever while they connect with NCL to verify your Veteran status. Same thing goes for if you have any credits, or future cruise certificates. Dealing directly with a PCC eliminates those issues.

Having said that, our TA gets us perks that our PCC can't offer (OBC, prepaid gratuities, etc.).

So sitting on hold to save a few hundred bucks is worth it.

Thank you all for your help!  MoulinVert, thank you also for describing what to look for in documents. I'll check the ID. Me site. We're using a new TA as ours retired and last time, for a Princess cruise, we just took the DD214 to the TA.

Olden times lol.

I travel on comped cruises which carry a $20 per day admin fee.  The military discount is taken off this fee.  Yes, we're only talking about $2 a day, but the packet and the gathering are both great.  I'm not much of a collector of cruise mementos, but I do like the ship patches they put in the packets and those I am keeping

Just off of the Bliss last week - first time with the military discount.

You link into the verification from the NCL website.

Once you are approved, which takes just a few minutes of answering questions (no docs required), when you log into the NCL site, your discount appears automatically as soon as you pull up a cruise.

I had a bit of a fight between NCL and my TA - but that was caused by requesting the discount after the final payment (found out about the discount on this board after my payment. Technically, this was after the allowed time to get the discount, but NCL approved it as we were still nearly 4 months out. It took a few calls, but I got $600 off!

I enjoyed getting the discount this past July for my Joy sailing.

The package was waiting for me in my stateroom with an invite to a gathering.

I missed the gathering, unfortunately, due to me being a space cadet. Lmao!!

But I do get a chance to make up for it in April on Getaway, so I'm excited for that.

This time my daughter will be there to remind me.

Anyway, once you're registered for the military discount, it sticks, as I didn't need to do anything for my current booking.

72 Days!

Challenge Coin, ship's patch, and letter I got on the Bliss cruising to Alaska last June 2023. 🙂

I had signed up to get the military discount and would have been satisfied with just that.

Was pleasantly surprised when I found this waiting for me in the cabin.

They also brought up and took group pics of each Branch's Veterans at the reception. Army had the largest group. Then the Air Force. Then the Marines. Then me and my fellow squids. Go figure. I felt kinda bad for the lone Coastie.😄

Props to Norwegian!
