Thanks does that OBC override an existing OBC offer you receive from NCL ?

I haven’t had it happen. I have had shareholder obc and travel agent obc on the same cruise.

Key phrasing there...  NCL doesn't usually give OBC directly as a perk, except the shareholder OBC.  Other than it being added to your account, NCL doesn't know what OBC 'perk' you might be getting.

Just to give you an idea, I booked my cruise using a cruisefirst certificate through a travel agent who also gave me OBC. I submitted for the shareholder OBC on Tuesday and then heard back today that they applied it to my account. There don't seem to be many restrictions for receiving the shareholder OBC thankfully.

Are there things it cannot be used for such as the daily gratuity or the casino for example?

That's correct.  Non-refundable OBC can't be used for the daily service charge.  I have successfully used it for casino charges, but that's been a while.  I know NCL says it cannot be used.

Do they actually enforce that for gratuities? From experience, the various cruise lines owned by the Carnival Corporation also say that but don't seem to enforce it.

Yes, they enforce it.

if you have the $50 excursion credit, sign up (once onboard) for excursions that cost $50 or less.  The cost of the excursion will be taken from your non-refundable OBC.  When the credit is returned to you after the excursion (you don't actually have to go on the excursion if you don't want to), it will be returned at refundable OBC.  Once it has been "converted", you can then use it for the casino, DSC, or buying cruise next certs if you want.  Since I don't make any charges onboard, I just cash out the refundable OBC.

You cannot use the non-refundable OBC for any gaming purchases. I was on the Escape last week, and the crew member at the On board credit desk said gaming includes casino, bingo, Deal or No Deal, and Wheel of Fortune. He also confirmed that it cannot be used for daily service charge or additional gratuities.

ok...so what are "may not be used toward onboard service charges " and what are not?

That would seem to eliminate everything..

bar tabs al la carte

upgraded bev packages bought/paid on board

specialty dining bought on board

grats charged on board during sailing

wifi upgrades bought on board

butler grats (not  included in grats and "voluntarily paid on board)

aren't all things then "onboard service charges" ?

What can the stockholders OBC be used for (we dont shop)

Onboard service charge is what has, in the past, been referred to as the DSC (daily service charge). It's not a generic term. You are way overthinking.

Can i use it for Haven butler grats- which are not included in the DSC?

well I know it doesn't mean upgrading the drink package as I've done that.  I've also left a gratuity at a specialty restaurant.  Pretty much everything on your list is not a service charges

AFAIK, yes. Can be used for any optional charge to your account, other than DSC, casino charges or CruiseNext certificates. And depending on the ship, it can sometimes be used for CN.

assuming one would be able to use it for haven butler gratuities, how would the haven butler gratuities wind up on a guest's folio?

Ask to have it added at guest services. Good idea, that would be anybody's guess...

i would never add a tip for a member of staff to my room charges.,. i have zero faith that they would ever actually receive it or that the tip would not be reduced in some way, with a portion of it siphoned off the top for "employee welfare" or whatever slush fund NCL allegedly puts the onboard service charge into.
