Carnival legand dead in the water

As samcraig said ,we stopped at canervual at 6am and were under way shortly after . At 9 they made an announcement telling us what transpired with the evacuation, no word about arrival time for Baltimore. They are doing a debarkation meeting at 11:30 so I guess we will find out then.   Thanks to all who posted, current speed 19 knots heading for Baltimore  in the waters off Florida

Thanks to all for keeping those of us up to date who are “hoping” to board Legend tomorrow. We are holding off travel plans to hotel tonight until we get word to head to the port. Fingers crossed it’s just a few hours of delay. I appreciate all the details while we anxiously wait!

Ok thanks a million! I’m ok with a delay. This has never happened to us before. I wonder if they will skip a stop on the itinerary to make up for lost time? Not sure if there is another cruise leaving on March 3 when we are supposed to get back. I just hope they don’t cancel the cruise! 🙏🏻

Wasn't Carnival, but we once had a cruise disembark 2 days late because a hurricane kept us out of Fort Lauderdale. The next cruise did sail, though not only shorter but with different ports because of the damage done by the hurricane. I don't think any cruise line wants to cancel a cruise entirely when they still have a chance to sail.

Carnival does not skip days between cruises.  One comes in, same day one goes out.  I am sure Carnival will have to make some kind of "give-back" to those affected by the 1 day delay.  At a minimum they should pay for a hotel, as I am sure people have flights and are in, or coming into Baltimore today/tomorrow. And people will be missing their flights home tomorrow also.  Those on the next cruise will probably also get some obc also for missing a day of the cruise.  Hopefully whatever mechanical issue there was is solved and the next cruise will go off- just a day late, which stinks, but is better than nothing imho.

Heard from a third source that part of the reason they came in was for a medical emergency, just repeating what I heard.  No cruise line skips days between voyages, just tp keep an even keel.

Per John Heald on Facebook :

IMPORTANT UPDATE
CARNIVAL LEGEND – FEBRUARY 25, 2024
NOW DEPARTING FEBRUARY 26, 2024, AS A 6-DAY CRUISE
February 24, 2024

Dear Carnival Legend Guests,
We have important updates regarding your upcoming cruise.
Repairs to the ship were completed overnight, but early this morning it was necessary to deviate
course to disembark a guest who needed urgent medical care ashore. As a result of the lost time,
the ship is now scheduled to return to Baltimore early Monday, and your cruise will now be
operated as a six-day voyage departing Monday, February 26.

Since we will be departing later than scheduled, our visit to Nassau will be Wednesday, February
28, from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The rest of our itinerary remains unchanged. Pre-purchased Carnivalshore excursions for Nassau will be adjusted to align with our revised port time. If we are unable to
offer a tour, you will be notified individually on board.
Given the change in itinerary we will be providing the following:

• A one-day pro-rated refund of your cruise fare, which will be posted to the original form of
payment (within three weeks).

• An appreciation gesture of US$100, per stateroom, onboard credit (equally distributed to
the Sail & Sign® accounts of all guests in each stateroom).

• A pro-rated refund for pre-paid gratuities and pre-purchased beverage and Wi-Fi packages
(posted to your onboard account).
Embarkation for your cruise will take place as indicated below.

In preparation for departure, all guests must be on board by 2:00 PM (ET), Monday, February 26.
If you need to reschedule your flight for the new embarkation day, we will provide up to US$200,
per person, reimbursement for any expenses associated with non-refundable air change
fees. Please send your receipts to guestcare@carnival.com.

We are dedicated to making sure you have an enjoyable vacation. If you choose to continue to sail
with us, no action is needed. However, if you do not wish to remain on this sailing, please contact
us by 5:00 PM (ET), Sunday, February 25, at 1-800-CARNIVAL, your Personal Vacation Planner,
or your travel advisor. You may cancel and receive either a full refund or 100% future cruise
credit.* Refunds will be processed to the original form of payment within approximately three
weeks.
Despite this change, our entire Carnival Legend team is eager to welcome you aboard for a FUN

So just a recap, the Ship had some problems with the speed from the engine, which has now been fully and properly repaired. And then, of course, we had the immediate and urgent medical debarkation of a guest.

Thank you to everyone for the understanding and our thoughts, of course are with the guest that we had to take  ashore for immediate medical attention. We wish them a full recovery.

And to everybody waiting to cruise I promise the fun will be waiting for you.

Sincerely

John

I live on the eastern Shore of MD. I usually take rt 50 to 97 to 695 to 95 and get off at the key bridge exit right at the port, about 2 hrs 45 min travel time. But my cruises are always leaving on the weekend. My new arrival time is Mon morning at 10am. I'm not sure how much extra time to leave for rush hour traffic. Don't really want to take an alternate route since I'm not familiar with the area. Any advice?

We’re glad to get onboard sooner Mon but I’m not sure we’ll get to keep our cabana rental while in Nassau. I’m pleased with offers tho. I’m also grateful we are only a few hours away by car & don’t have to hassle with flight adjustments. I was able to move hotel reservation also. Thanks CCritic crew for all the updates & info! We’re a day late but happy to be sailing soon!

I guess the only thing I would add if I were Carnival is reimbursement on that extra motel night some folks will need prior to the cruise. This is all part of 'stuff happens' but I do feel pretty strongly about being held harmless this close to the sailing date.

Have not done the math on time lost due the mechanical problem vs the medical issue.  At the end of the day, not sure it makes a difference.

Carnival's offer seems generous to me.  Another reason trip insurance is important - that would cover the hotel/motel stay in most cases.

I agree travel insurance is important with the current travel environment.

Compared to what royal has offered some cancelled cruises, I'd say carnival is generous too. Carnival is winning imo in the customer service dept.

The world cruise cant go thru the suez canal and is voting feb 27 which route around africa to take. Those onboard getting 25% or 50% obc, and still have a cruise but some who got cancelled are only offered $100 obc to rebook something else. I'd be mad. One guy has 4 hotel nights booked in dubai nonrefundable.

While I can see some who booked carnival and losing a day or air fares mess .. carnival made a decent effort ... win in my books. Carnival might not be as profitable as a stock, but they are being much nicer to their customers. Glad to hear carnival cares about its customers. Bravo.

I was on conquest when Ike hit Galveston. We got nothing except let off in new Orleans to go thru customs. Allowed back on after customs but everyone had to get off. Later on they got permission to go dock at the new port in houston, but not when we got off and rented a car to get home.

Now I read stuff excusing carnival claiming there was a bus I could have taken carnival offered. Rumors arent true. I swore off carnival several times, this was one of them.

Getting anything at least shows they tried.

I've had a lot of unusual experiences with carnival. Not just this last one on dream where we were sent to our cabins because of weather. Once we had a uprising after missing 2 ports. Weather. Hurricane. All those marching around had blue and red cards, newbies. Wouldn't listen they werent getting a refund for their cruise. I tried. A lawyer with a newbie first timer knew his rights and was leading the charge. Lol the ship finally offered a hour of free drinks. Too busy, I didnt even get 1. Security kept telling him he couldn't do their march near customer service and escorting the lawyer away.

Some carnival fun times. 20 years worth. I earned my diamond status one pt at a time with lots of adventures along the way. A cruise to nowhere on ecstasy..left a day late. Hurricanes darn them.

Yeah, I remember the Greenland uproar here on CC. Tiny ports with orange lifeboats used as tenders equals risk. We missed 1 in 4 up in Iceland. No compensation; no problem.

I always wondered when cruises get extended like this, will the extra day go on your VIFP points? What if you were one day short of the next level? Would they bump you up during the cruise?

Unless I misheard, I believe everyone on this cruise is getting +1 points for the extra day. But do not quote me on that.
