Since then the RCCL stock price has gone through the roof. We have also had a nice "dividend" of at least $1000 of OBC. We haven't cruised the CCL or the NCL ships but will be in the future. I do not have any problems having 100 shares of three companies in a large portfolio of stocks. There is no requirement that the stock be held for longer than it is necessary to get the shareholder discount approved.

Rare chrismch Posted April 27 #53 Share Posted April 27 Unfortunately, if you bought 100 shares now, at $145 per share (today's price) you'd be putting aside $14,500 for that benefit - not a great investment at that price.
tserface Posted April 27 #54 Share Posted April 27 This is a nice benefit, but $14,000 to buy 100 shares to get $100 OBC for 7 days is kind of expensive. If you bought a couple of years ago you could pay a lot less and, obviously, you made a good buy since it has gone up a lot. Princess/Carnival does the same thing, but with their stock trading around $15/share it's a lot easier to buy in.

In addition, the odds appear to be greater that the share price will go down. Buying now could be a high risk proposition. Invest the money in a CD and use that money for OBC.
NCTribeFan Posted June 9 #57 Share Posted June 9 I rarely visit this board (since I've only sailed X once) but booked a partially-free casino offer for November. I did a search for 'shareholder and benefit" and this was the first result. Search works, within reason, mostly due to your search parameters. Anyway, bought RCI shares several years ago. Not sure exactly when, but it was at about $38.50. So even though I've only used the S/H benefit once before, it's been a nice ROI. It's in an IRA account. Bought CCL back in 2009 when it was at it's then-low of $18. I've received a lot of OBC from CCL since then having sailed several longer cruises on Carnival and HAL. HAL is pickier about accepting it. Carnival used to give it even on free casino sailings. They've cracked down lately, I think. I'm not sailing them these days. I bought both mainly as an investment. The OBC is a nice perk. My November Beyond booking was for a free cabin for me, but I had to pay for the 2nd nonexistent passenger (I'm sailing solo). Think I'll get my S/H OBC since I had to pay for one person? Any thoughts? I suppose I'll submit my info and find out. If I can remember to do it, I'll report back as to whether it was accepted or denied.
bigbenboys Posted June 9 #58 Share Posted June 9 We have been getting the benefit for years. The problem with the search function, as mentioned in many threads…lol…is that it pulls up every post with one’s key words no matter how old or relevant to the post may be to the inquirer of info. My go-to for searching CC is to post my question in google instead. It’s much easier to weed out the mess and hone in on a desired answer. im not sure I would think to google my intended post ahead of starting a new thread on CC just to see if something has already been posted…but perhaps I will start. I also find it easier to do a Google Search and add the word CruisCritic. If you want an exact phrase you can put quotes around it.

I am the same way and in addition, a Google Search lets you put in date boundaries, such as last month, or last year ... avoid a lot of very old post responses that way. Hi, Many cruisers we meet on board have also told us that they never heard of a shareholder benefit. What is AMAZING is that many are Diamond, Elite or have done many cruises. We love longer cruises and the "free" $250 or $100 on each cruise! The ONLY thing we miss is that RCL use to pay dividends!!! It was like a triple bonus: OBC, Dividends and the stock went up!! The only unusual comment I get from some cruisers when I mention the shareholder benefit is "What happens if I stop cruising"??? s when I mention the shareholder benefit to
