Not odd - the assignment has not yet happened. The trick only works if there really was an assignment. Having it still as GTY is normal.

Normally, you’ll see a muster station pop up on the app before the cabin assignment shows up. When you see the muster station, then try the barcode trick and the cabin number should show up.
This has been my experience anyway. YMMV

Yes I see my guarantee in my wallet. How long does it generally take to show up on app. I know once I’m assigned a room I can switch my room, but but it still shows it’s under guarantee.

It shows my number on my wallet, but how long does it generally take before it appears in the app. I wanna change my room and it won’t let me until it’s a signed and shows.

I don't have an Apple gadget so couldn't do the Apple wallet hack but saw on our social media group another hack which was to screenshot the setsail pass , it was showing deck and muster station but not cabin number , then use Google lens over the bar code which will read it , et voila , cabin number shown.

You can switch, to same category?

I see ours updated.

in a balcony that on deck plans is indicated for 2 pp.

we have 3 ‘adults’.  Perhaps there’s a sofa in there #3 is expected to use?

Yes but it must be the exact same category. As an example, not just interior to interior, it has to be 4V to 4V. Every cabin type has a unique code.

Once officially assigned (not just seeing it from the bar code trick), your TA can switch you if you used one or you can call RC if you booked direct.

*Obviously there has to be an available cabin in your category to switch to.

Just called.

they made a mistake and assigned us into OV balcony for 2 max occupancy???

told ‘…not to worry, we will have a cabin for 3 by the time we arrive at the pier…’

seriously, first I’ve heard of being assigned into wrong occupancy cabin

i asked for confirming email

Lately by the time my cabin is officially assigned there are no longer any available cabins left in my category ( or it one or two remain, they aren’t more desirable then my assigned cabin).   I hope you have better luck, but don’t get your hopes up.  There’s no way to know how long you will be in barcode status.  Your official assignment could come soon or it could come just before the cruise.  I will add, though, for several cruises when I have saw my cabin via bar code soon after check in, my assignment became official exactly 30 days out. YMMV

As the assignment still reflects the cabin for 2 pp vs 3 I booked…

and I didn’t receive the email

from RCCL as agent promised after I alerted them of the discrepancy …

do I chill and assume RCCL

Will put us in a proper OV balcony, or do I keep calling back (as in once a week? Sailing on 6/28)

I would definitely keep calling... and personally I'm not sure I could chill for nearly long enough to only call once a week but that's just how my brain works. I don't like having unresolved issues hanging out there. Just one man's opinion of course.

  • 2 weeks later...

29 days out, still assigned in cabin for 2 not 3 ppl according to bar code

Rccl did indicate, at worst case, they will find something to sleep all 3 of us at pier “no worries”🫣

Today got cruise doc email, luggage tags do not show the ‘wrong’ cabin assignment I’m seeing associated to barcode

should I even bother printing them out if they don’t populate before the cruise?

If you are only seeing the cabin number in the barcode, your cabin has not been officially assigned.  If the cabin is not truly assigned, Royal Caribbean has not (?yet) made an error for you to protest.  I’d be concerned, too, if I were in you position, but I don’t think your phone calls will do any good until you have an actual cabin assignment.

Personally, I do not bother printing luggage tags while my cabin is still officially gty.

What method are you using to read the barcode…Apple Wallet or a barcode reading app or some other method?

I have the same tag, same color, still waiting for room assignment on a guaranty booking. Your room can be even assigned the day of departure. The porters at the pier can provide hand written luggage tags, no need to print out a blank tag.

That’s exactly what I’m being told when I call to question them.

RCCL won’t even acknowledge that when I save it to my wallet an actual cabin #/ assignment for 2 pp (Vs the 3 I paid for) still shows up.

here’s what I see in app. Didn’t include bar code attached for obvious reasons

IMG_1399.thumb.jpeg.8c20aa077d8cdf4bd6d54daf6daa92f7.jpeg

I’ve tried two different bar code scanners & assigning it to Apple wallet directly

When booking this, our 1st GTY, understood the possibility of not knowing our assignment up until we showed up at the pier

its seeing a cabin # in the Apple wallet bar code that only sleeps 2 pp that’s has me on edge as we have our teen GD as 3rd person.

Half in jest, starting to think I should pack a blow up air mattress

did have one rccl rep

indicate, I’d like to think jokingly, that the beds pushed together would accommodate 3 pp

You have certainly been more than diligent re-checking the bar code trick, though the Apple Wallet method seems pretty foolproof.  I totally trust my Apple Wallet decoding.  When other people use various other bar code readers, there could be more chance for an error (due the reader or the operator or some combination); that’s not the issue in your situation.  While you see your barcode result, the customer service reps do not and if a customer mentions it, reps do not act on the barcode results.  They are not official assignments.  I’m afraid you are in a holding pattern until you get an official assignment.

Meanwhile, are we certain the deckplan that says capacity 2 is really up to date?  For example, is there a chance they changed the regular sofa for a sofa bed?  Would you be willing to share the cabin number from your barcode so the rest of us can look at the cabin configuration?

I haven’t tried, but I think I could sleep on the sofa in an Oasis class balcony cabin.  Your GD might be able to manage also, if worst came to worst.  I’d opt that sofa over an air mattress.

I did manage to have one rep who (theoretically) checked the cabin # & said max 2 occupancy.  Unfortunately,

Couldn’t verify it had a sofa, said some have a chair instead ???

That is a connecting cabin, I would be very concerned that there is not a sofa in that cabin.

Edit:  I found a connecting pair on that same deck with the same category and it is a love seat in that cabin, not a full sofa.

Thanks, that answers my question.  Cabin 11696 was not designed to accommodate a sofa bed.  It only sleeps two.  (As you may know, the cabins are built in pairs.  Cabin 11696 is the right cabin of the pair and has the bed by the balcony.  Sofa beds on Allure go in cabins with bed by the closet/bathroom; those are the left of the paired cabins).

I’m pretty sure it is either a sofa or a love seat in Allure balcony cabins (not just a chair).  The loveseats maybe smaller than I remember… I’m short but I might not fit well.  Often the arms lift off cruise ship sofas/loveseats; if so that would help.  I do want to believe they will eventually assign a triple cabin, but, I’ll still ask…how tall is your GD?
