Grandeur July 22

Recommended Posts

We are now on Grandeur and after 2 Splendor cruises over the past 2 years have noticed a decline in food and service. As with the past 2 Splendor cruises, we are in a GS, 1012, which is gorgeous. We ate our first night at Sette Mari, and honestly, it was bordering on terrible. Pasta Fagioli soup had zero taste to it and my penne bolognese arrived very undercooked. I had it replaced and this time the pasta was cooked, but the bolognese was very greasy. Gave up on dinner and hit Meridian Lounge instead. Second day at Pool Grill, I ordered peel and eat shrimp. Three times various servers brought over sandwiches that were never ordered and after over 30 minutes, gave up on the shrimp/food and went to pool bar. There I ordered a drink (only a few people at bar) and again wanted 20 minutes or so neglected to up to suite and its bar. We ate at Pacific Rim a couple nights ago and it was very underwhelming, to the point we just had appetizers. One thing we’re have definitely noticed on this cruise is the staff. Although very friendly and helpful, it seems that a good number struggle with English and understanding what is being ordered. At this point in our Med cruise, we would rate it as under 4. Very disappointing for a proclaimed 5 star line.

Please report your experiences to the F&B manager so they can get things back on track.  They can't fix problems they don't know about.  Your input would be helpful to all on board.

Spoke with F&B after first issue. They persist. Supposed to dine at Chartreuse tonight but hearing lots of complaints about it onboard so may go back to P7. Ate there again last night and the Bride ordered the seafood tower for one…..underwhelming while my Filet was good.

Must be "crew dependent."  We were on Mariner in Dec, Grandeur in Jan., and Explorer in Feb. and our experience was quite different.

I do think that there is problems getting crew members.  Covid changed the dynamics for most the world, and the cruise companies, ALL of them, were not immune to those dynamics.  Many of the older crew retired early or found land based jobs and left the industry.  The cruise lines have added a number of ships that created the need for NEW crew members at exponential numbers.  Heck Regent, by adding Grandeur, ADDED the need for around 500 crew ADDED to Regent's roster.  Royal Caribbean ADDED Icon of the Seas and a need for an ADDITIONAL 2350 crew members.  So this could be a big part of the problem.

Hope things improve for you, this is so disappointing to hear. Glad to hear the suite is gorgeous though as we will be in the same one on our next cruise! We had some F&B problems on our recent Splendor cruise also and are hoping it isn't indicative of a general decline.

Sorry to hear this.  I was expecting the worse after reading so many negative comments here- on day four of 19 on Splendor and the three dinners we had, first at Prime 7, then Chartruse, and last night at Pacific Rim, have all been fantastic.  There was a bit of a wait to order at Pacific Rim last night but we may have precipitated that by telling the server to give us a few minutes to order.  Never know how long a “few” or a “moment” are construed.

In the neutral side not all is perfect.

There is a “technical issue” which has delayed an arrival time to next port and which caused all morning tours to be cancelled.

I also agree there are some staff whose English is not sufficient for their role. A server at the pool grill yesterday did not seem to understand a modification my wife wanted to make to sandwich and told her they were pre-made which is not likely for something that gets soggy. This morning a helpful cabin steward must have asked someone to bring coffee milk and limes to the room, and he did so at 7:00 am (ignoring that they placed them in the room the day before). These are minor blips that we will laugh off so long as the dinners stay good.

We are going to try Setti Mari tonight (if we can get in) and I hope we don’t have your experience.

Daisy….you will love Suite 1012. Beautiful GS with an amazing balcony. Great spot for any mid afternoon naps and well located on ship. We are in Monte Carlo today and will try Lady Luck a bit later at the Casino.

Thank you,

do you have also the Standart Winelist?

Go to RSSC.com and on home page, near bottom, they display menus for each dining venue along with wine selections.

This is the ship's master list of standard wines, which they tend to keep under wraps for some reason, from 5-15 July on Splendor. We keep this on our devices so we can order what we want, in any venue.

Pretty much mimics Grandeur’s list.

I agree...  We sailed on Grandeur for 30 days during January and February and experienced just one issue in P7 which was corrected.  Other than that, food quality and service were excellent.

My issue has been a real lack of consistency, both in terms of food and service. Couple that with crew who have difficulty with the English language and it becomes frustrating. Our last two Splendor cruises were excellent, save for a few hiccups. This particular cruise just feels different than the normal Regent experience.

I can certainly understand how such a language barrier can be frustrating.  It's not something that additional onboard training can easily correct.  In 70 cruises we have never been faced with this.  Is the shortage of qualified staff so dire that Regent has to resort to hiring non-English speaking staff?  What are they thinking?

We board Splendor in September for 27 days.  Hope we are not faced with similar issues.

Thanks, @Gpilon.  Some well priced bottles on this list.  Please don't drink it all before our cruise in December! 😉

Absolutely agree that the connoisseur wines are well priced with an excellent selection available. We have made a “minor” dent to the list so trust you will have some nice ones to chose from.

We ate Al fresco at Sette Mari last night and had a very enjoyable meal. Again, “inconsistency” rears its ugly head.
