Carnival Secrets they Usually Don't Tell You About 2

I am going on memory here...warning number one...LOL

I believe a 750 size of rum was around $40.00.

(but don't quote me) I just remember it being a little less than 4 times what we pay for it at a liquor store.

Yesterday I got a liter of Absolut Vodka and a liter of Tanquery Gin for 85.00, which is about a %40 markup; however, when breaking down how many drinks I can make out of those bottles versus buying them individual from the Carnival bar, I'm definitely in the clear :D

highlighter can be used to mark things on the Daily Capers cruise newspaper)

post it notes...to leave room steward notes

duct tape...in case something breaks or rips..like luggage.

I dont bring any of the above, but many do.

We use Duct tape to keep the closet doors and drawers closed on rough sea days. That way every thing stays put during the night......

Make sure to tip the luggage porters. I always have and I have never had trouble getting my luggage before dinner on the 1st day of the cruise before dinner. However, I met another couple (1st time cruisers) who didn't tip the porter and they didn't get their luggage until midnight. In New Orleans I once saw a luggage porter taking notes on who was tipping.

I have seen lost airline luggage get delevered to the ship at the first port before. Therefore, my wife and I always pack 50% of each others clothing in each other suit case.

Wal-Mart sells a clothing steamer that gets out wrinkles from garments. Unless the garmet is wrinkled badly it is more conveinant to use the steamer rather than going to the ships laundry room. Some cruise lines, such as Royal Caribbean, don't have irons available for passengers to use. Passengers are not aloud to have their own iron either. However, clothing steamers are allowed.

Don't want to gain weight on the cruise? I still use the ships gym of course. However, use the stairs as much as your physical condition will allow you. If I'm not mistaken every 4 steps = 1 calorie. My wife has read that going downstairs burns as many calories as going upstairs. When I cruise I never get to see what the elevator looks like but at least I don't gain weight. It doesn't matter if I'm going up 10 flights of stairs or down 1. I never use the elevator. I've actually lost weight on 2 cruises.

 I'm a waitress, I should be thin as a rail by that method:p..........however, I cannot fuss. 14 years ago, I wore a size 22. I started exercising 3 times a week to a workout video (step-aerobics), changed my entired diet. Grilled or baked everything, 8 glasses of water per day, 2 percent milk, diet coke, started riding bikes with the kids, going for walks while pushing the strollers and lost down to a size 12. Now, 14 years later, I wear a size 12-14. I have my dad's (God rest his soul) temper, wide hips, eyes, & sense of humor.:)

Often the Embarkation time says about 1:30pm. If you show up earlier (say 12pm) they will begin processing you right away. This way you can get on the ship earlier and enjoy lunch. On some cruises I have been asked to stay out of the cabin for awhile eventhough I was allowed on the ship early.

Also pay attention to your towels. On the Conquest and the Valor I have noticed that sometimes the towels have a fecal oder. I don't know if this is a problem with Conquest class ships or a fleetwide problem.

While cruising with our friends last year, their card was denied in Antigua. Boy were they embarrassed. Luckily, they used ours but when they did get back, they were told that because the credit card company couldn't get in touch with them and they had also used it on a previous Island, they thought it might be fraud so stopped charging privileges.

You know Bank of America did this to me on my debit card. It was not on a cruise, it was an online purchase that went thru a foreign bank. The next time I was out I was buying a dishwasher for a rental condo I owned in Brands Mart who told me my card was rejected. Talk about embarrassing?? It still took me several days and I had to go to Bank Of America in person and they had to call someone for me to talk to before they woud release my card.

I can vouch that you need to make sure you warn your bank ahead of time about a foreign purchase.

Perhaps breath?? LOL!! Sorry, blame that one on the wine :D

Seriously though, I've never noticed a fecal odor on any towel, on Fantasy, Spirit or Conquest class ships.. nor have I ever heard anyone ever say anything of the sort... so I wouldn't worry much!!

I always bring 2 empty 32oz plastic bottles, I fill them with mango juice each morning and keep them in the mini bar to enjoy in the cabin. The room steward will clear out the mini bar if you ask. I also like to keep some choc milk in the cabin. Also I take a couple bottles of water and just refill them from the tap, that way I don't have to pay the high price for bottled water on the ship. The chip buckets from the casino also make a great temp ice bucket.

Cards become demagnetized don’t use your credit card for the room safe

I am not sure what this means exactly. Does it mean don't put your credit cards in the room safe? I thought this would be an excellent spot to put your purse and wallet and only take the minimum with you at port. I thought just taking 1 credit card, ID, and some cash off the ship and leaving the rest in the safe would be the way to go, but are you saying the safe itself demags the credit cards?

Arby70,

I'm guessing they mean don't use your credit card to lock the safe. I've seen a lot of recommendations to use an old gift card from a department store or any other useless card with a magnetic strip to lock it. There's no problem with leaving your cards in the safe. We've done it every cruise and never had a problem. And by the way, LOVE your corgi picture! My last dog was a corgi and passed away in 2005 - I still can't bring myself to "replace" him. Your pic made me smile. :)

We do this on the ship AND everywhere else we go. We like to sleep in total darkness, so we always carry clothespins to make those heavy curtains stay closed together. I have also been known to use heavy double sided tape to keep the curtains stuck to the walls at the ends b/c they let so much light in at the edges. Big hair clips work well also at keeping curtains closed tight if I forget my clothespins.

We take 30 - 39 gallon trash bags for everyones dirty laundry (I hate for dirty laundry to be mixed in with my clean clothes). Then when we locate a laundramat, our dirty clothes are already ready to go without having to rifle through everyone's suitcases trying to figure out what is clean and what is dirty.

Take 2 gallon ziplocks for WET stuff on the last day. I either am stuck with wet swimsuits or freshly laundered items that I didnt have time to get in the dryer on the ship on the last day. Ziplock bags of all sizes have saved me many times for various reasons.

Safe in room question Haven't cruised on carnival yet - I was assuming that the locks had a key pad as they do on another cruise line - It has to be a card to close? Thanks - Jan

To lock the safe you must swipe the card in it. To unlock the safe you must swipe the same card again. When you open the safe it is automatically reset. I usually use my drivers license. The gift card idea does sound better.

I don't use the bathrobes. I have noticed them on most of my cruises but someone else will have to tell you what you have to do get them. I think it has something to do with the type of room you book.
