Soda card is actually a sticker that they place on your cruise card...you show that when you order your "free" soda.

The cost is about $4 per day times the lenght of your cruise, plus 15% gratuity.

..and it is not for canned soda, just fountain soda

if the cost of a soda is a major concern, you should not get on a ship

the basic cost of the cruise is an entry fee only

enjoy your cruise and dont worry about the cost of a drink

The post did not state it was a major concern, your comment is quite rude. Before I sailed I too was curios as to the cost since I have one daughter who is a soda drinker and it turned out worth buying a card for her, and one daughter has only a seltzer here or there and prefers water and iced tea so she didn't need one. Some of us don't have money to throw away but work hard to try and go on a nice trip. All the little extras can add upo to be alot and some of us need to make choices, with that said and without sounding like a broken record you were quite rude to the poster. I'm glad you weren't the one to answer my questions when I first joined CC.

The Soda Card is up to $4.25/day plus 15%. The large glasses are bigger than a 12 oz. can of soda. Three large sodas per day will make the soda card a better bargain than paying for individual cans of soda.

Jim You Need To Lighten Up, No One Said It Was A Cost Concern ,just Wanted To Know What It Cost...lighten Up Dude. We Really Dont Need Such Negetive Stuff, Smile Once In A While

I totally agree!

Jim is assuming it's a cost concern!

It also depends on what you drink. If you drink the four or so fountain drinks then OK, but if you prefer variety it may or may not work. Case in point - I prefer diet coke during the day but am now getting used to diet sprite in the evening. The fountain only has diet coke as a diet beverage.

But I answered "sometimes" as there are trips where I will probably drink a lot of soft drinks during the day (lunch, by the pool, after an excursion, etc). I just do the math and make my choice the first day.

By the way - with the card you also get a 12 oz. refillable souvenier Coke/Princess container. Unfortunately when they refill them you get a lot of ice and much less than 12 oz. beverage. I recommend just leaviing the container to your cabin and getting cups or glasses of coke - the poolside bars serve bigger cups than the others.

I never drink soda unless I'm having a rare migraine, so I don't buy a card, but it's always my husband's first order of business upon boarding. He doesn't even take the refillable mug-thing. He always just orders a large directly from the bartender...several throughout the day, if it's hot.

It makes no difference if you are talking cost or not, I am a die hard Diet Pepsi drinker, ( and the occasional iced water) but I find that the sickly plastic soda fountain syrup is so far removed from the real thing so I bring my own on board ( along with some Walmart Sams Peach Water !!! ) at each port, have it in my cabin whenever I want it and know its the real deal AND USA made and Jimbo, I save a stack of bucks as well !!! so I spend them in the casino or on tours ;)

I'm not a huge soda drinker but I do drink enough to make the card a smart investment. However, if I'm driving to port, I'll carry my own soda. If I'm flying, I need to buy the card. Somehow, a rum and coke just doesn't taste the same without the coke.

I always buy it. I bring my large 32 oz tupperware glass from home. I'm a big water drinker also and those tiny glasses in the cabin just won't do it. The bartenders gladly fill my large glass. Even though some days I drink more then others (ok I use it for mixers too) I feel the convenience of it is worth it. You walk by an open bar, say "fill er up" and you've got something to drink.

For the 7 day cruise I was just on, it cost $30 (plus the 15% gratuity automatically added to the tab). It covers ONLY fountain sodas, not cans. This means that mini-bar, room service, and any other can is NOT covered. The way it works is that when you order a soda, they look at the card and if it has a sticker they don't charge you for it.

We figured you would have to drink 2 sodas a day to break even, more to save money. Considering there were days when we were in port most of the day, or ordered room service, we figured we wouldn't be able to drink that much and didn't buy. Turns out we were right, saved a bunch of $. Hope this helps.

I always get it. I'm not normally a big soda drinker, but I like having the option. I don't drink alcoholic drinks so my beverage choices are pretty limited. And I'm not lugging soda onboard to save a few bucks. Since I've paid for it, I end up getting soda quite often. I get my money's worth.

My wife takes a few sips from my cup so we share the card in essence. I have no moral qualms about it since it's just fountain soda and I find it mildly offensive that the cruise line charges for soda in the first place.
