WhiteRabbit Posted November 5, 2008 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2008 We'll be on FOS in Dec. with a 13yo and an 11yo. Are there any shows or activities (besides the casino!) that may be questionable as far as the content goes? It seems I read somewhere that the Mystery Theater Dinner (?) is adult themed, but I'm not sure. I also wonder about the Love & Marriage (?) game show (?) if it gets iffy or not. Any insight beforehand would be great. Thanks!

My DD who is 8 loved Love & Marriage...although I think she misses some of the stuff she will catch in a year or two...so yes for your kids it could be a bit much... One of the late evening shows is designated as for adults so I'd suggest not taking the kids to that either...otherwise they are usually clean enough. THEY might embarrass YOU with how much they understand! ;)
satxdiver Posted November 5, 2008 #4 Share Posted November 5, 2008 I have not been on the FOS but have been on other RCI ships as well as some other lines. They all had a Love & Marriage show that is full of sexual innuendos - some very pointed. So if adult sexuality is not your cup of tea, I would recommend staying away. BTW they continually rebroadcast the show on the ship's TVs all through the voyage. They usually have a comedian who will do an adult only show at 11:00 or 12:00 PM with under 18 not admitted although they seem not to enforce it. It is advertised in the compass. I have never been to the mystery theater. Every other show/event on the ship has been pretty much vanilla. I would warn you that at some of the pool events in the afternoon on sea days, the announcer can get a bit ribald and the guests will usually respond. Some of the events that I have seen are the sexy legs contest (men), hairy chest contest and belly flop contest.
cb at sea Posted November 5, 2008 #5 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Any show not appropriate for kids will be billed as "adult"--it will be in the Compass.
DonnaK Posted November 5, 2008 #6 Share Posted November 5, 2008 The late-night shows are the ones that inappropriate for kids/teens. They will be clearly marked "for adults". All of the regular nightly entertainment, meaning the main shows in the theatre, are fine for kids.
meansun Posted November 5, 2008 #7 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Becareful, the Love & Marriage show is also on the TV the next day so be aware when you are channel surfing.
crusinmama06 Posted November 5, 2008 #8 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Yep, I agree with the above. Quest is for adults. Love/Marriage, wouldn't take kids to that either. On Freedom there may be a Family version of Quest. I thought I remember reading about that. The comedians, if they are adult themed, then it will say so in the compass. crusinmama06 Posted November 5, 2008 #11 Share Posted November 5, 2008 There certainly was Family Quest on Independence..... Thank you. :) So that would be a good option if the kids want to try Quest. :D
Langley Cruisers Posted November 5, 2008 #12 Share Posted November 5, 2008 Agree with what has been said, but you never do know what a comedian is going to say. He could use some mild profanity or colorful language - there is just no way to know, even though the show is not rated "Adults Only". Just a heads up. WhiteRabbit Posted November 6, 2008 Author #13 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Thank you for all of the replies. I'm glad to hear that they will 'rate' shows as 'adult' when appropriate in the Compass. That should make life a little easier. I should have guessed.
ahornb Posted November 6, 2008 #14 Share Posted November 6, 2008 I get it about Love & Marriage, adult Quest, and the comedians. Can I assume that the other shows are safe as long as they are not marked adult?
cawagner Posted November 6, 2008 #15 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Ok, this may be a dumb question but what is "Quest"
shrimp0 Posted November 6, 2008 #16 Share Posted November 6, 2008 Quest is an interactive game show... and all I can say is that if you are a first timer... the less you know... the more fun it will be for you to watch ( or participate)!!!!!! If you dont know much about Quest... cover your eyes a minute.... We did allow our 9 year old to come with us to Quest last year. ( our choice as parents) One of the items asked for was a birth control device... our team tried to use our son!!!!! No points... but it was a hoot!!!!!
