What's the first thing you plan to do?

We always have lunch first. On our Canada-New England cruise last August, many of us passengers sat on the top deck in the open air appreciating the view of Manhattan and Governor's Island from Brooklyn. We watched the ferries and boats go by, and talked about how early we woke up that morning to travel to NY.

Drop bags, check out the balcony, meet the Steward who usually shows up fairly quickly and ask for egg crate, wine glasses and ice (and ice down the Champagne for sail away!). Do the happy dance around the room, and go explore (top to bottom, grabbing a snack at the Horizon Court along the way). Smile, smile smile at everyone, and they are ALL smiling back!:D

As we are usually among the first to board we drop our carry on bags in cabin, check out the balcony and head to the Horizon court to grab something to eat before the crowd gathers there !;) Then my favorite time to explore the ship a bit before heading back to a lounge chair in the sun with the first Miami Vice in hand to watch all the first time cruisers look of awe on their faces as they check out their ship for the first time !!:D

Take our carry-ons to the cabin and unpack them...then go for lunch. We return to the cabin and wait for our checked bags....and wait ....and wait ....and wait.....go for muster drill....return to cabin and wait for luggage....and wait. Wish we had tipped that shore porter more.:)

For our next cruise, we will have the luxury, for once, of not having to fly anywhere and NO chance of jet lag. Sailing from Southampton to Dubai. Southampton is only an hour by train from where we live. Sailing time is 7pm and we plan to leave home at about 3pm so by the time we get there a lot of the crowds will have gone and we can hopefully have an easy embarkation. We will have lunched before we leave, so no need to visit Horizon Court. We can just chill out with a few drinks before sailaway and dinner and then 25 days cruising to look forward to:D:D

Go directly to cabin, smile, drop bags, smile, check out the balcony, smile, check out the cabin, huge smile and do a happy dance that has to be seen to be believed while smiling and laughing :D :D

Then its out the door to the nearest bar to smile some more, laugh out loud and have a great time, and most fun on a cruise, meet new people. :)

I love all your answers. Please keep them coming. We usually book an inside stateroom but this time we have a balcony. Do any of you spend sailaway on your balcony or do you all go topside? Only three weeks to go! Yippee

We spend sailaway up top as it is a big party happening kind of atmosphere and seems like the tradition to kick off the week. That said, when leaving ports during the week, there's nothing better than getting some cheese, crackers and other snacks, some beverages and spending that port's sailaway in the privacy and quietness of your own balcony! Especially nice if you're on the "island view" side of the ship. :)
