Well this was new to me...

Reply re: my inquiry for a price for a SF suite in 2016.

"The casino now only offers discounts up to a mini suite, so I would have the same prices on that as you see online."

If I missed the chatter on this..sorry for the post....:o

Are you talking about CAS comping you a room from your previous cruise play?

Are you talking about CAS giving you a discount on your cruise due to your TR level?

Are you talking about CAS and the free cruise certificates land casinos hand out?

If this is yet another change to the CAS program and benefits I see some really unhappy casino players in the future. Another disappointment.:(

I'm confused as to what she's referring to. Yesterday I called CAS to see what they could do for me. They said they could give me a H9 or a SE if there are no H9's. As a matter of fact they said I have two coming to me and one must be booked by March 27 and the other by April and I must travel by April 2016.

Now, my problem is.....H9's bed does not separate and neither does SE's bed. SE has a couch. I love my friends and SIL but don't want to share a bed with them. I know I can upgrade to a 2-BR Suite. Another problem....my family and friends are all 'cruised' out and I really don't know if I want to cruise solo.

I know.....such problems!

Sorry for any confusion....I wanted to make a NEW booking for a suite for a date in 2016And inquired about cost (with the CAS discount- no comps, no freebies...just discount ). The reply was no more discounts above a mini.

I understood the OP to mean that CAS no longer 'discounts' anything above a mini. In your case it sounds like a full comp. So both scenarios could very well be true.

A disappointment for CAS players who consider it a perk to get the discount on full suite and Haven categories. For them it will be another removal of something they could perceive as a benefit for their patronage of the casino.

If you have never cruised solo you should give it a try. I enjoy cruising with family and friends but I also really enjoy the many times I have gone alone. My first cruise in 1989 was a solo trip and that was way before Cruise Critic and solo lounges. The combination of a good roll call and the solo gatherings on board means there is no reason you should ever have to be alone unless you want to be.

I would call again

It seems every time you call you get a different story and a different price

Friends called on tuesday and got a 4K discount on the same cabin that they were quoted on Monday

I have had same issues with cas in the past

They also told me i would not be eligible for any discounts since i travel single

I wonder if this will be short term? With the current promotions including just about everything now for suites I can see why they would not be too keen to be throwing a 20% discount into the mix. If it is long term, as I said before, it is just another disappointment for many CAS players.

I am not a suite person but I can see how this can leave a negative impression. I just reached Golden last year and was fortunate enough to experience the Cagney perk. I consciously worked to get to that level and was looking forward to it again on the Jade in May. If it were not for Cruise Critic I would have been in for a surprise when I boarded the ship. I believe it was Harriet's posting here on CC where I had first heard of it being gone. Prior to her posting I had specifically asked my CAS PCC about any new changes and was told there were none coming. Misinformation is bad but so is no information. Would it have been so difficult to send out a mass group email to CAS players and announce any changes? Also if it were not for Harriet I would never even have heard of the Elite Level, not that I think there is any incentive whatsoever to reach it.

I feel for folks who enjoy those high end cabins and have become accustomed to receiving a discount in consideration for their casino play. They might think differently about making their donations to the casino once they find they are also expected to pay top dollar for their cabin of choice.

Maybe it is just during the current t promotion. I hope so. I've got 2 booked with a 20% discount but if this is a permanent thing our suite days may be over after the next 2 cruises.

I was told the same thing when I called to book my cruise a few weeks ago. The last few cruises I have booked suites through CAS with a discount. They said that they are losing too much money and are not able to discount cruises above a mini. My last 6 cruises were booked through CAS but this time I booked through the regular NCL department, and did not book through CAS.

Yeah, I'm sure they are just about bankrupt from discounting high level gamblers a few hundred $ on a suite. I am sure they don't make that back tenfold in casino losses. :p

My experience mirrors that of the OP. I called the last week of January to book my usual CAS comp'ed balcony that I upgrade to a suite. Same time of year as the last two, but the cost was outrageous - it was cheaper for me to just book the H7 suite through an on-line TA and get all of the offers (UDP, UBP, $300 OBC and an additional $250 OBC). My CAS rep agreed that it didn't make sense. I then asked her about booking the H7 and getting the 20% off and she told me that management wised up and was no longer offering a discount on suites.

Not everyone given discounts is a "high level" gambler. I may loose an amount equal to the discount but not much more than that. On the lower-level suites I've booked the discount is usually between $800-$900. With the current promotion we're getting about $2000 in amenities included on our Star cruise so I can see why they might take a second look. It will be interesting to see if anything changes when this promotion is over.

People who believe the "we're losing money" line absolutely crack me up. You aren't being "given" anything and they are still making plenty of money. If you are allowed to book via CAS with a discount, you have proven yourself to at least be a moderate gambler dropping at the very least a few hundred $. Thus making back the $ you were discounted just in your gambling alone.

I'm a mediocre gambler and last week I called CAS to see what I could get. I already have a comp balcony upgraded to mini suite for this May on the Breakawy to bermuda but was inquiring about a Suite (SJ) on the Star for a November 1 cruise. Again I was comped a balcony and asked about upgrading to a suite because there are 5 of us and I was given an incredible price of $2,260. Not sure how the discount came into place even if it did but seems like this price is great. I did a mock booking as a regular non CAS booking and the price was $3,688. So now im curious how I got such a great price.

Yes this was discussed but for some reason I can't access my thread as it said the site is under maintenance. I think this new rule went into effect late Dec.2014,early Jan 2015? We always got a 20 % discount on the suites but no longer. We are at the lowest level re: CAS casino cards. Remember the discount now is up to and including mini-suites.

They did a price difference between your balcony comp and the suite upgrade. If you look at your confirmation you will have on top right BA/BB/BC (Whichever your comp category was)-SJ and you would have METAUP in your codes. They still let you upgrade to suites (From a full comp) but no longer discount. I am going to check total rewards site and see what they have posted. TR is still showing the discounts on suites so I guess you could mention that when booking. Depending on the category you may be better off using the AARP discount instead and booking through TA to get extra OBC. Last year I booked through a major online site because the price was on-par with CAS except I got an extra $500 OBC. I asked CAS if they could match that through pricing and they said I should take the other deal, I did.

As an FYI, I am not liking what Del Rio is doing at all.

Mine just says: CATEGORY / STATEROOM: H9-H5 and only has META in my code.

Rochelle,

There are many people here that know much more about CAS than I do. But yes, it was me who posted about Cagney's perk being taken away as of February 1st. The only reason I knew that was because when I was on my February 7th cruise in a mini I was told I couldn't go there for breakfast/lunch.

However, I never received anything....then or even now.....saying that the perk is no longer available for Golden or VIP. It was simply 'taken away'.

And I agree....with what they are giving those who reach Elite - it really does NOT pay to get there. I'm even wondering at this point if it even pays to get to VIP. A part of me also wonders if it pays to be Golden! LOL
