Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 21, 2012 We were supposed to leave Key West at 1:30 for Cozumel. Ropes were tossed off roughly on schedule. After a few attempts to power away from the pier, the wind kept pushing us back and they just powered down. Wind is close to 25 with gusts to 35 mph. 30-40 minutes later the captain came on and said that until the force or direction of the wind changes, we are staying put. They have not bothered to tie us back up, as the wind is apparently doing a good job keeping us against the pier! The shops are open... but here we sit. Not sure how long we can stay here and still have useful time in Cozumel (was to be 11:30 to 8:30 tomorrow). Tom

Those are tough (nearly impossible) shoes to fill from what I understand! Tom Hi Tom, Even if she's fantastic, it's impossible shoes to fill indeed. Looking forward to seeing her in January. When you have a chance, can you advise who the Cruise Director & Hotel Director is ? Thanks very much.
miched Posted December 21, 2012 #5 Share Posted December 21, 2012 That is one of the reasons that the ships charted course is never calciulated at full speed. They always try to have some in reserve if it is required to sail around a storm, hazard, emergency and etc. and still be on time.
rolloman Posted December 21, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 21, 2012 Still here. I believe the wind is scheduled To ease around 6pm. I am sure it will be an abbreviated trip to Cozumel if we go. I am far from impressed to this point for a host of reasons. Hard to believe this is a celebrity ship. I will post my views when we get back. Rare ghstudio Posted December 21, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 21, 2012 At cruising speed, the Constellation should take about 16 hours (plus docking time) between Key West and Cozomel.

Bpp2451 Posted December 21, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 21, 2012 I'm "stuck" here too, and not happy about it. Before everyone gives the "cruise lines can alter at their digression" line.....it was known he winds were terrible today and Carnival cancelled their stop here today. I'm assuming most are like me and would have preferred to skip our morning in Key West to make it to Cozumel. Now, it would appear we will have to go somewhere else.....since we will not have time to make it to Cozumel......maybe Nassau?

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 Since you are still in port, I'm thinking the shops were open by mistake. I suspect you will also have to FL sales tax on all your purchases/drinks. Bpp2451 Posted December 21, 2012 #12 Share Posted December 21, 2012 Two sea days in a row....no thanks. Lets hope for Nassau at least....or can we make it to Cozumel?

If the ship leaves at 7PM you should arrive in Cozumel at roughly 11-11:30AM their local time....assuming that you go through the Florida Straights at the ship's cruising speed of 24 KPH. Make that about 12:30 with docking time. Having said that, if it's windy, traversing the Florida Straights at 24KPH may be a bit rocky. The stores and bars should not have been open....most likely they will just ignore the fact that they now owe Florida taxes. I'd be surprised if they charged the passengers the tax. Interesting point to ponder....what will they do about taxes on wine purchased with dinner..... Each cruise is an adventure....so try to go with the flow and enjoy, wherever you wind up tomorrow. Our personal feeling is simply unless you live close to the port, they are really not worth the hassle.

vaguy79 Posted December 21, 2012 #16 Share Posted December 21, 2012 The service seems off on this cruise. It was a rough start yesterday with the evacuation of the terminal because of the fire alarm. I'll just roll with whatever happens. At least I can still use my cell phone and there is LTE 4G in Key West. Looks like cozumel has been scrubbed. Don't we have to stop at an international country due to cabotag law.

Well, those that would prefer the sea day can just stay on board....lets hope we get outta here soon, the wind does seem to be dying down. But, it's still very windy. Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted December 21, 2012 Author #18 Share Posted December 21, 2012 Captain just made an announcement that we will remain docked, though they can't ( due to security reasons) open the gangway. Cozumel has been canceled. No alternate plans yet. Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Bpp2451 Posted December 21, 2012 #19 Share Posted December 21, 2012 This is terrible. We will miss Cozumel AND we are stuck in Key West. They will not let us off the ship since we are on the Mole dock.
Orlandocruiser Posted December 21, 2012 #20 Share Posted December 21, 2012 We were in Key West on the Ryndam() in December 2010 and the same thing happened to us. We had 40 knot winds blowing us back to the pier and it two two tugs an hour to pull us safely away. Of course the Ryndam is considerably smaller than the Constellation and those two tugs were working hard.

Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2 It's possible that someone from Celebrity HQ or from the ship is following cruise critic closely (which is great IMHO) and they figured out who you were....or perhaps they are just doing some proactive, good customer service which is excellent. Sorry to hear you'll miss Cozumel, but my guess is that you would not have enjoyed the Florida Straights tonight, so maybe this is for the better. Enjoy dinner, have a few drinks and enjoy the evening. BTW, the casino will most likely be closed, but that would save me some money so I'd view it as a positive :)

That's certainly possible, or they might just be contacting their suite and/or elite guests. The CEO of Norwegian replied to me on a thread after we got off the Epic!
