Constellation stuck (for now) in Key West

I'm "stuck" here too, and not happy about it. Before everyone gives the "cruise lines can alter at their digression" line.....it was known he winds were terrible today and Carnival cancelled their stop here today.

I'm assuming most are like me and would have preferred to skip our morning in Key West to make it to Cozumel. Now, it would appear we will have to go somewhere else.....since we will not have time to make it to Cozumel......maybe Nassau?

Damned if they do, and damned if they don't. I can only imagine the howls of complaints if the Key West stop had been cancelled. In difficult situations, it is impossible to please everyone. Be thankful you are on a beautiful cruise ship and not at work doing some mundane job like many of us who are sneaking a look at CC and reading your reports.

I was trying to hold back but I can't take it any longer.

I would gladly give up my spot on this lovely (if you like freezing temperatures with 30+ mph winds) Friday evening to be "stuck" on a cruise ship in Key West.

. . . She offered no updates or additional insight as to alternate plans. I did tell her if we don't get going soon we'll probably be looking at an extra sea day or Nassau!

Tom: Thanks for the earlier text message. Sorry to hear that the itinerary wasn't seamless as planned.

Guess the ship will have to go somewhere, so as to stay 'within the rules' since you left a US port and then visited another US port before going home. Have an enjoyable time, my friends . . . and best wishes for success in the casino. :)

At the show tonight the captain announced that we will try and leave sometime tomorrow, with the rest of the day being a sea day followed by Nassau on Sunday (times TBD).

SOMEHOW the casino is open. "Special Permission" indeed (as the announcement stated) - I know that happens in Nassau at times, but we are docked in FLORIDA!! hmmm!!

I don't think it's legally possible for the casino to be open.....but enjoy it and good luck.

gambling in Florida is legal on casino boats, "Indian casinos" and pari-mutuels in two counties. Casino gambling is legal in international waters, so casino boats from Key West travel nine miles offshore into the Gulf of Mexico.

My understanding is that according to Florida law, Celebrity is at very high risk of being fined mucho $'s and possible criminal charges, if the state finds that they operated a casino in Florida waters. There is no such thing as "special permission" because there is no one empowered to give "special permission"

Well, Key West is known for making their own rules! I mean, not surprising they opened the casino, since you can walk around in Key West with an open container of booze and the bars there close when the people leave. Not part of the state law and a local told me they just do their own thing. HEHEHE

I don't know about you, but if the casino is open and I can get to a bar, I personally would be OK. However, it really does not compensate for missing a very popular port-of-call. Try to have fun and let me know how much money you win!

We in Colorado had that storm affecting your cruise just two days ago. It passed very quickly.

Aha!! Your sailing has seemingly uncovered the long-kept secret of the relationship between Celebrity and the Seminole Indian Tribe. ;)

Hey, if it works for Hard Rock . . . :D

Was getting hungry a short time ago. Room service quoted 45+ minutes so we opted to hit the pizza place. No pizzas available... none in the oven... and perhaps the most surly crew member I've encountered manning the place!

We are at sea - next stop Nassau (on Sunday).

Going to bed around 1 am last night found us without our Saturday Celebrity Today (or Dailies, Fun Times - take your pick!) prior to retiring. It's understandable given the circumstances, just felt odd!

It would appear that there are those onboard who were quite irritated that we are not making our Cozumel stop. While setting up our breakfast, you could tell that our butler was feeling us out as to which camp we belonged to! I assured him that we were doing well, and that after enough sailings one tends to expect the unexpected (Don, you know that better than anyone), and make the best of things!

I know for one I would have rather skipped Key West and been able to go to Cozumel ( as Carnival Destiny is doing) Last year on the Solstice, we sailed right past Costa Maya because of high wind and high seas.

On one of our Carnival cruises we had docked in Costa Maya and because of winds and seas we started banging against the dock. Watching from the Lido deck, we remarked, theres no way we are staying here. The kids had just gotten on their ATV's for their tour and they were told they were headed back to the ship immediately. And the ship left in short order. We wondered how they could posssibly let everyone know. Lucky that our kids were on a ships tour.

I feel for the staff having to deal with something that was completely out of their control. The thing about any travel is that you've got to be prepared to go with the flow (as you've already mentioned). Hope you have a GREAT rest of your cruise!

Hi Tom,

Even if she's fantastic, it's impossible shoes to fill indeed. Looking forward to seeing her in January.

When you have a chance, can you advise who the Cruise Director & Hotel Director is ? Thanks very much.

Sorry for the delay, and not sure if anyone else answered this or not...

The HD is Djamel Benatmane

The CD (did not catch her name, and can't find the papers it was on) - she indicated that she was from Canada. Dark hair, big smile (all CD's should have a big smile)!
