jdixon0631 Posted October 26, 2014 #201 Share Posted October 26, 2014 It wouldn't take stalking...people watching sure. Why do you have to try and turn this into something that sounds negative? Are you seriously trying to say you've never observed what others are doing? I can say watching someone, then following them to another room on the ship is weird. Observing and following is totally different.
bambilin Posted October 26, 2014 #202 Share Posted October 26, 2014 was really looking forward to trying cheers at a more reasonable price :( guess I go back to smuggling We were lucky to get in on the $37.50 per day on our cruise on the Dream 08/24. It was a great deal! We're hoping that since we will be sailing the same time of year on the Pride in 2015 we would get the low rate again. Guess not! ;0( Sent from my iPad using Cruise Critic Forums mobile app

Laurie S. Posted October 26, 2014 #204 Share Posted October 26, 2014 We got it on our 22-day Legend repositioning cruise and under the lowered price it was $1,800. It was well worth it to us and we rarely got to 15 drinks. With the lower price, you only needed about five or six to break even and that's easy in a 24-hour period. We would do it again even with the higher price.
Rh2458 Posted October 26, 2014 Author #205 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I can say watching someone, then following them to another room on the ship is weird. Observing and following is totally different. Depending if I was heading in that direction. That could be all they meant. They followed them into the other room, not because they were stalking but because they were going there too, or they had wondered how often drinks actually get shared off of cheers packages. Maybe they were naive in thinking it really wasn't happening and wanted some confirmation either way.
klct39lg Posted October 26, 2014 #206 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Anyone else miss the old drink coupons? We aren't big drinkers by any means so we would buy 10 of them and between me, hubby, and my mom, would have a few over the course of the week. It was perfect. Hubby drank beer and we would have our foo foo drinks. I wish they would bring them back or offer a card that gives you up to 15 drinks a day to be used by anyone. Why should it matter who drinks the drinks if it's cutoff at 15? And that way you don't have single people trying to get their money's worth as I bet a lot of people that buy the card would be couples like ourselves. Just MHO. Carry on. We would be interested in that. Even if we could share Cheers, 15 drinks per day for the two of us would still be pushing it -soda included. YorN Posted October 26, 2014 #207 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Early in this thread, someone mentioned regular drink prices went up as well.Any word on how much? Across the board percentage or just a few here and there. It was just speculation. No one has reported an increase to bar menu prices.

tiggerlover Posted October 26, 2014 #209 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Ironic to me Carnival lowered Cheers at same time they announced new smoking policy. Now the policy is in full effect they raise cheers again. ..hmmm that's exactly what I was thinking!;):)
DGP1111 Posted October 26, 2014 #210 Share Posted October 26, 2014 I participated in my first and final Cheers! beverage program onboard Carnival Breeze this past week. Despite a rather huge glitch right at embarkation (now recognized as foreshadowing of what would come six days later) . . . it was managed VERY well, and not one single bartender showed the least bit of attitude when they initially observed the sticker on my card. I came out financially better than I would if I'd been paying 'retail' throughout the week, and enjoyed having the opportunity to test a few beverages on a whim and deciding if I liked them or not, without spending those funds on something I didn't enjoy. And one of those 'whim beverages' turned out to be my very favorite for the entire sailing. :) Add that to some fortunate luck in the casino with the Match Play cards, and I was a total Happy Camper. Carnival still made a really nice profit off of me (due to their own low cost of purchasing bulk spirits), so I hope they were a Happy Camper too. . crusinpsychRN Posted October 26, 2014 #211 Share Posted October 26, 2014 (edited) BV charges $80 for a $25 bottle of Jim Beam. If they' get more reasonable with their pricing there wouldn't be so much smuggling. The lowered price for Cheers was reasonable. $49 a day, not so much. CruisinWithFamily Posted October 26, 2014 #212 Share Posted October 26, 2014 If it included bottled water and specialty coffee I wouldn't have an issue with current rate. But for what they offer now I feel it's a bit much.

Couple questions Don, did you find that your drinking pattern changed other than the sampling you described (btw that is part of why we are considering cheers for our December cruise on the Breeze)? What is the reason you would not try it again ? Lastly, how was your cruise ?

jdixon0631 Posted October 26, 2014 #218 Share Posted October 26, 2014 Who saif they don't make money? Ok so how does Royal Caribbean make money when theirs are unlimited. I have friends that could drink more than 15 a day even on port days. So how can Royal Caribbean make money off their packages.

Didnt need to be corrected Wasn't correcting you. Just stating if those 6 drinks are $9.95 glasses of wine you will get your money's worth. If they are $4.95 glasses of beer, you won't. If someone drinks cheap stuff, they will need 8-10 drinks to break even. If they drink expensive stuff, 5 will do the trick.

It still seems to be less that what other cruise lines are charging for similar programs. NCL's "Ultimate Beverage Program" - with no max drink per day limit - is $54.00/pp/day + 15% gratuity if it's purchased prior to boarding and $59.00/pp/day +15% gratuity if it purchased on board. It too has to be purchased by all in the cabin and includes unlimited sodas. Another post has mentioned that Royal's program is in the $55 to $65 per day. So - although the $37.50/per day was a great deal. Carnival may be raising the pricing again to remain similar to all the other lines that offer a similar drink program. Obviously the $49.50 is more of the "going rate" for drink programs - compared to other lines. Edited October 26, 2014 by happy cruzin
