Baggage size over by 1/4 inch!

Flying American Airlines to Miami next month (first class). Looks like most airlines abide by the 62 inch size. I am looking at a garment bag that is 62.25 inches? Will they measure it? Will they round down? Am I worrying about nothing?

I see for first class it doesn't matter if bag is overweight, but says nothing about size.

I don't want to be THAT person or get my bag denied. This is a bag to check, not to take as carryon.

Does it really matter if I say that I've gotten away with it?

The won't decline to accept your luggage. They'll just hit you with fees.

I have never had my checked luggage measured by AA or any other airline. Personally I would not be concerned about it especially since you are flying first class.

You are checking it....they will not notice 1/4 inch. Now if it weighed 100lbs or something....you might have an issue. :p

I wouldn't worry about 1/2".

At worst, the bag won't be denied, but hit with oversize fees - up to $100 usually. Just curious - which dimension puts you over?

American Airlines checked the size of my carry on last year and I had to take stuff out to make it smaller......Still was slightly oversize but they let it go. They make you try to put your carry on into this rack, if it doesn't fit,it's oversized

OP is concerned about a checked bag.

slidergirl, it's the width....not sure if I mentioned in original post it's a rolling garment bag by Tumi, it's 25.25 x 24 x 13 inches.

For checked luggage, most airlines just say 62" and are not concerned about the individual dimensions.

Had the same bag for several years. Never had an issue

you could be a foot over......First class has really no chicken inspectors...bag go'sover 10lbs....8" indim....... what problem..... enjoy yourflight

No worries. Travel American a lot. Never had problem with any checked bags , size or weight , when traveling first class.
