I could just cry, MISSED UPGRADE OPPORTUNITY!!!

Recommended Posts

  • Had a message on answering machine from Royal Caribbean offering an upgrade from our Grand Suite to a STAR CLASS Sky loft suite for $1,650.00. The message was left about an hour and a half earlier. And they had also called earlier in the day.
  • We work. Got home and called immediately. Too late. It had been given away.

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY:eek::eek::loudcry::loudcry:

Lesson Learned: Your upgrade contact number should be your cell phone and not your home phone.

Is that $1,650 per person?

How much would it cost you to upgrade to a Sky loft suite without an upsell call?

$1,650.00 flat. Well, I don't care what anyone else calls it, its an upgrade to me. I'm getting a $17,000.00 cabin (3 people) for $7,650.00. I was more than willing to pay 1650 rather than almost $10,000.00 to upgrade.

I cannot specifically answer your question, but here is what our history is.

A few years back roughly 4 we were upselled from a GS to a CL2 for $750ish dollars total (3 adults).

The following year were upselled from GS to CL1 for $600 for the 3 adults.

The following year booked an A4, no upsell, disappointed with suite.

Now addicted we just book the CL1 or Cl2.

Yup there plan worked, now we just pay.

The highest category we ever book is a JS and we consider it "a splurge". I'm afraid to upgrade and have a taste of the real suites exactly because of what you experienced [emoji23]

I guess we must either be cheap or simple people! The costs of those suites for the amount of time we spend in our cabin we can't justify!!! [emoji848][emoji33]

There is truth in that for sure. I fall into I want a suite frenzies sometimes and then I wonder why, for what? How much time do we spend in there? It's a good philosophy. As long as I have a balcony I'm good and I'll save the money.

From what I was told, our 1bd ATS on Harmony was about 2x the size of Oasis/Allure

and the bathroom was a huge improvement over OA/AL

Take a look if you get a chance...

And then there are those of us who enjoy the perks and the extra space. Everyone has their own opinion. $1650 to go from Sky class to Star class for 3 people is worth it in and of itself. I'm sorry the OP missed out on the opportunity. I would bet they wouldn't have any regrets after their trip.

Normally, we are perfectly happy with a standard oceanview stateroom (don't even need the balcony and will only upgrade to one if the difference in price is minimal).

But I always price out suites just for kicks. We did book a J4 for our upcoming Anthem cruise because the difference in price wasn't substantial. Yes, the Sea Class suite perks are nice, but that wasn't the reason why we booked it. After seeing a video of the layout, with a split bathroom with a tub and a rain shower on one side, and toilet and an extra sink on the other, as well as added closet space, I considered the difference in price money well spent. This is something that my wife will greatly appreciate and will deliver a much more enjoyable cruise experience for both. [emoji4]

Doesn't Star Class include free gratuities, free drink package and free specialty restaurants? If so, that would have been a great deal!

A visit from the Upsell Fairy!!!

I'm with you. We loved the JS on Oasis. LOVED it. But we're just not in the room enough to justify most of these things. We're even fine with inside rooms if that's just the most affordable route.

We've gotten to a stage in life that we do book balconies on occasion if the price is only a bit higher. I don't want to open another can of worms, but making the balconies non-smoking played a MASSIVE factor in that, also. Before that balconies were off the table. We got a balcony on another line for the same price as inside many years ago and the person smoked the entire cruise. It was useless. Now we can use balconies, so it is on the table!

We don't want an oceanview at all. We did that once and it was garbage for us. You lose the complete darkness in the room, but you can't actually visit the sunlight.

I have a friend who isn't rich, but lives comfortably. He & his wife ONLY go suites, but will slum it for a JS on occasion, and that's how they sail. They only go on cruises every 3-5 years because of that, but it is their money to spend as they wish. I'd rather go on cruises every few months and slum it inside than wait 3-5 to afford the suites. BUT that is *my* money to spend as I wish.

Go into your profile and change your contact number. If it wont let you change it (sometimes it wont save the info) call RCI and have them change it.

You are one of the few that saw the value. Plus you get escorted to your suite and past everyone when you arrive with your bags. Drink package and gratuities should about cove the price difference. Then unlimited specially dinning, with all upgraded options included pushes it way over the top.

MMMMMMM

I guess I can only hope for one more upsell to one of these.

Does that mean they would re-imburse us for drink package and gratuities.

We pre purchased, or could we apply it to the genie, or should that be a personal tip, just saying, do not know if an upgrade could happen.............................but fingers crossed.

Thanks for the insight.

We changed the number last night. Looking forward to the Grand Suite. This was a splurge to celebrate our anniversary. We do enjoy the balcony cabins. But since our son is almost 10 now, we need the extra space. Usually get a Junior Suite. I don't know what we'll do when he out grows the sofa bed.

I saw a phone number I did not recognize coming in on my cell phone just before our Serenade cruise, and did not pick it up. No message. Later Googled it and found it was RCI.

On the other hand, my sister got that same number coming in an hour later (she was on the same cruise with us) and DID pick it up. She enjoyed the upsell from JS to GS for very little cost.

I was happy the upsell fairy stayed in the family and she got to enjoy her GS. ;)

In my past experience, if you want an upgrade (instead of an upsell) change your preferences to "I prefer an automatic upgrade." They won't call you, they just do it. We have been upgraded on two other cruises to our pleasant surprise!

Ditto on my profile also, though have only been visited by the upgrade fairy just once, but at least I finally did get to

meet her.

But on my B2B nice corner aft balcony cabin on Radiance Alaska, I did go in and request "Do not upgrade". Would not have wanted to miss out on that view, OR have to change cabins. But I made sure to go back in after the cruise and select "auto upgrade" again in my profile.

BTW: The OP was actually talking about the upgrade fairy's money making cousin, the "upsell" fairy. ;)

That's why I said "instead of upsell." Very noticeable it was the upsell fairy instead of the upgrade, but she feels as though it would be an upgrade to her so that's all that matters! [emoji6]
