From your Australian cruise trips where is the best place to get Austalian dollars for US Dollars .

We have read that the Overseas cruise terminal in Sydney has a ATM ;but ,are there alternatives to that one ATM ?

TIA

Just up the street across from the Marriott there a 4 banks which have ATMs. It is a short and lovely 1000 feet walk along the Quay and under the train tracks and up the street. There is a Starbucks on your right as you go across the street at the traffic light. We just came back from the Radiance Circumnavigation and spent 5 days in Sydney. Be prepared - it is just as expensive a city as London. You will need to know where the ATMs are located. :)

There are banks all over the city, practically on every block, and most have ATM machines. However, if your card is a VISA debit card, look for the VISA sign on the machine.

As has been suggested by others, bank ATM's are the best way to obtain currency. I would suggest, in addition, having enough Australian currency with you to pay for any expenses once you are off the ship and until you are able to get to your hotel and/or a bank ATM. I have been able to obtain such currency at favorable rates and with no fees as a Chase Bank customer.

We have been to Australia twice, and both times spent some time in Sydney (staying at the Sir Stamford at Circular Quay). ATMs are as common in Australia as they are in North America. Not only is one in the OPT, there are at least two under the Circular Quay trains, which is about a four or five minute walk from the OPT.

We used very little cash as we paid almost everything on our Visa card that has no international transaction fees.

Thanks :D.We also carry credit cards with no international transaction fees .

Trying to find out if taxis take credit cards;)

Yes, they do, but they charge 5% surcharge on top of the fare. It used to be 10% but new legislation came in to force in December 2014 that limits the surcharge to 5% - at least in the Sydney region.

On a side note, do we need New Zealand dollars for there, or will they accept AUD?

New Zealand dollars.

I recently overheard a cruise ship passenger attempting to use English pounds, or Australian Dollars, neither of which were acceptable to the New Zealand shop owner.

NZ dollars. We have our own currency. We're not part of Australia.

We also have ATM machines.

Be very afraid, GUT. Us Kiwis are sneaky. One day you'll wake up in the West Island of NZ. :D

We gave you the chance back in 1900, may still be a chance if you say pretty please.
