Decorating Stateroom Doors

Recommended Posts

We're taking our first RCL cruise on the Allure soon. Do many people decorate their stateroom doors with magnets? We have 4 cabins all pretty close to each other. On our last cruise (not RCL) we all decorated our cabin doors. It made it much easier for the kids (and a few adults) to find them.

If people do decorate their doors, I'd love to see some pics!

I wish I had my camera with me on my last cruise. Someone played a prank (I assume) on the couple that got married before Freedom sailed away. The sign said something like (from memory)

NEWLY WEDS. PLEASE KNOCK LOUDLY 5 times and wait for the sound of scurrying, then enter only after the verbal ok.

Sounds of OH MY GOD is not evidence of a church service.

Do they sell KY in the ship store?

There were a few some very crude, but funny other lines. It was obviously pre-printed and stuck on their door.

We usually sail over Halloween (we get back on Halloween this year ), so we buy a Halloween door covering from the Dollar store and tape it on our door. It makes it so very to find the room when traveling down the endless corridors.

I only saw one decorated door on the Adventure of the Seas last week. It was for a birthday. I didn't really walk down any cabin corridors other than our own though.

That can be a tip for getting around the ship easier. In some cases that is much faster than going through a promenade or casino. Of course when I do that I am always quiet and careful of crew members trying to do their job.

We always decorate our door. Usually something around the season/holiday when the cruise coincides with. Never had anything stolen. We get stuff from party stores. Not expensive stuff. Some crude stuff on our white board we use for messages to others in our group (gone to casino, gone to xxx bar, etc.).

I for one never understood the whole door decoration thing. I get it if you have kids, but not sure I understand the appeal beyond that. Sorry - flame away.

We have never done it ourselves, but did do the birthday package for our kids one year. They were in a promenade cabin so the decorations could be seen from the promenade. They also put a sign on the cabin door. We were across the hall and found it useful to us to find our cabin more easily in the long line of cabin doors!

PS, love the minions, may think about that one!!

I had never gotten into the door decorating, until a few cruises ago. At that time, we had made some friends via our Roll Call and figured we would just put up the Cruise Critic Member sign on our door. Then last cruise was over Valentines Day....so I got hearts and put magnets on them and put them on the door. I added some of the hearts to my sunhat as well. It was just fun. It also was President's Day during our cruise so we had very Americana t-shirts with us and a red, white and blue sparkled hat.

Our next cruise is over Thanksgiving week, so I will look in the Dollar Store for a male and female pilgrim for the door and perhaps a turkey. Or maybe a Minion characters dressed like pilgrims (however I would have to expect that someone might take those).....alas.

Just fun stuff.

Well...we TRIED! Some knucklehead kept moving our university's team mascot magnet all over the place. I was irritated and by the third day we gave up & took it down.

What you experienced is really sad and unfortunate. I know I am at risk however if I find Minions dressed up as Pilgrims (somehow), of them being taken by some 'children'.

As an Oklahoma fan, if I saw a Texas Longhorn logo, I would never move it down the hall, but I would flip it upside down w/ the horns facing down. :D

We always decorate our door, usually with cut-outs from the party store (we affix a strip of magnetic tape across the back) Depending on the time of the year, and the location of the cruise, it is usually holiday themed or tropical decorations.

Why? because it is fun, festive, and it helps us easily spot our cabin amid the long hallway of endless doors. We've never had an issue with the decorations being taken or moved.

Because Hubby is not the most observant of people I made a sign so he wouldn't get lost. I had a picture of a Koala Bear with Wally's room typed on it. I intend using it again on our Allure cruise in Feb, it actually made it really easy for me to spot our door too. No one ever tried to move it. Who cares how old we are or how silly it might look to others, I did it for our convenience no one else's. Although I bumped into our neighbor one night in the hallway and he said he was glad we had a sign on our door it made it easy to find his room.

Maybe they were just having a little bit of fun...at least they were not stolen.

I think putting things on the door would be fun...but then I am a retired elementary librarian who loved to do bulletin boards. I am going in June to Alaska. What theme could I use?
