Football Question - Equinox

Apparently my hubby and friends whom we are sailing with on the Equinox in September have figured out that the Packers will be playing twice. They are wondering if the ship shows football games anywhere. Priorities :)

Now, if he and his freinds wanted to watch the Browns play twice I'd suggest professional help.;)

bluwes is correct....the Gastropub has tvs for sports....just ask them to put the game on (as long as the satellite can pick it up). We were onboard the Equinox during the basketball playoffs and they always had the games on. The casino lounge also has access.

It also helps if you ask the CD about the games you are specifically interested in watching. They often are Dallas Giants dominant choices and as an avid Eagles fan my DH has issues.;p

If you have wifi package, can you stream games to phone or tablet?

If it's a REALLY big game they might even have it in the main theatre or Celebrity Central.

Very often it can be found right in your room.

We watched LSU beat Alabama from midnight to 3:30 a.m. one transatlantic, in our pjs right in the cabin.

Personally. I could care less about sports shows on a cruise! It's the cruise we're there for! That being said, there are plenty of TV screens around the ship that will show games. Considering how early in the season, the Packers are playing,"might" be the reason the game could possibly not be shown. They may be more focused on Baseball or a game catering more around say..a large group of Europeans that might be on board.

Hey now! Not so very long ago, really. Fall 2012 I believe. The year we beat them in the regular season and then were matched up for the national championship. And we're just not going to talk about that one....

I'd say pretty good...and you can have a mint julep too!

Celebrity would attract more passengers (or at least more Americans) during football season if they would broadcast more of the games on the ships, and could assure that the ship will remain within range of the broadcast signal throughout such times.

We know some men who absolutely refuse to cruise during football season for fear of missing any of their games, even the college games.

Nothing compares to the look of sheer panic, frustration and horror on the face of a football fanatic who is watching an important playoff game on a cruise ship when it suddenly loses the satellite connection right at a crucial play.

Every time we've cruised Equinox, which is approx 8 times, they only showed European Football in the Gastropub. If the games you want are on Sunday or Monday night, and carried by ESPN Deportes, you might see those games. But Celebrity is horrible for carrying US sporting events. Heck, they refused to show any Olympic coverage.

HaHa, I was referring to watching the race rather than betting on it.

PS--I have since heard from someone on our roll call that on a previous cruise during the Derby the Equinox did not show it.

The simple answer is, it depends. It's a European satellite feed of ESPN, which DOES show games, but which one is a lottery.

I have been on ships where it seemed like all they showed was football (what the rest of the world calls it!) with the occasional; break for an NFL game. I've also sailed during the cricket world cup and that is all we could see on most TVs around the ship.

Packers? Eagles? Doubtful, unless, of course, they're playing a decent team! ;)

It has been our experience over many years sailing Celebrity that the chances of getting to see the game you want run between slim and slimmer. On very rare occasions we have contacted the communications officer and asked for a particular game and it was shown, but that is very, very rare. On our recent cruise, we were dismayed that they were not even showing the NCAA championship game. It is very frustrating to be dying to see your team and instead all there is on tv is soccer or some other European favorite, despite the ship being 75%+ from the US on most of our cruises.

But as a (long suffering) Bears fan, I am very ok with not seeing the Packers;p

Is this figure an anecdotal guess ? on our last Caribbean cruise but one the GRM told us that the biggest number from one country was Canadia !

She also said that the Brits were 3rd but made the most noise and also seemed to laugh the most.

This is of course at best an educated guess. But on most of our 7 day Caribbean cruises the ship was primarily US cruisers. I find that on longer cruises (particularly 14 days or more) the number of people from Europe or Canada are higher. On those cruises, it would only be fair to split programming among the various sports preferred in the most represented countries. And for that matter, I couldn't care less how much soccer or whatever is being shown, as long as they also can offer some of the sports favored by their US passengers, which is a much more rare occurrence.
