A/C on Freedom

I have heard a few people state that they have had problems with the A/C on various ships. We are sailing on the Freedom in October and wondered if anyone recently off the Freedom had any problems with their cabin A/C working properly and if the other areas of the ship were comfortable or not? Thanks!

We just sailed on Freedom last week. The ship was kept warmer than what I recall on other ships but was still comfortable in the common areas. Our cabin (8th floor interior) seemed to be warmer too. There were a few nights that we kicked off the cover and just used the sheet. I wouldn't mind if they turned down the temp a few degrees at night. Highly recommend you bring a little fan for your cabin.

Depends on the cabin location. Nice cool air when we sailed on Freedom. If you have a balcony or window cabin, make sure you close those curtains before leaving your cabin .

I've seen lots of posts in the past with complaints about inadequate A/C in cabins. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I've never experienced it, not even in a balcony cabin, which is what we always book. I have to think some it is a personal preference thing, like food. Some folks keep their homes at seventy degrees or lower during the Summer and their bodies have acclimatized to that, while others keep their thermostats on seventy-eight and have acclimatized to that. I'm thinking it is the people used to living in a super cold house that take issue with the A/C in their cabins. Just a theory. I could be wrong about it I guess.

Just got off Freedom on Saturday and our cabin (9283) was comfortable. We still had a fan at night. I was pleasantly surprised because I was on the Freedom in May and we almost died because it was so hot, even a fan didn't help then!

That's kinda what I was thinking. If that is the case, I will be fine, but a few of my travel companions will be miserable.

Id venture a guess that 90% of the AC problems on a cruise ship come from people leaving their balcony door open all the time. Ive heard from a maritime engineer that frequents this site that it can effect MANY cabins AC. I keep my house on 74 in the summer. Cruise ship cabins are generally always cooler than my house. I would NOT be happy with a cabin that is 78. Not at all.

We just got off the Freedom two weeks ago and overall I thought it was warmer on the ship. It seemed to go in spurts though our room would be warm sometimes not unbearable but warmer than I would want it to be and then there were times were it cooled off quite a bit and needed covers at night. I felt it was this way in all of the ship. If you played in the casino up by the cashier that area was very warm it seemed all the time.

Pearose - Glad you asked this question. When we were on the Magic several years ago, it was always too hot in our cabin. Never had that issue on any other cruise. I will be taking a fan with me next month!

TowelCritter - I have learned it isn't that people are used to keeping their a/c cooler at home.

I get that but out suite on the valor was so hot at night, we HAD to prop the door open to get some cool air coming in. Worst sleep week of my life. And they would not bring us a fan for the room. Had a great time but by the end of the week I was a zombie from the terrible sleep. I heard on the vista, each room has its own ac, so that should be great

if your neighbors leave their balcony open.. there will be issues with all the cabins around them

We've only had one bad A/C experience on Carnival, on Liberty many years ago. It was obvious that our oceanview wasn't getting dried or "conditioned" air. Several trips to Guest Services and visits from technicians ensued over the course of the first evening and at the end of it all, Carnival said the room, at a very moist 73F, "met their standards."

As a test I took off everything except a pair of shorts and waited five minutes. At the end of five minutes I was still sweating and we realized that we were not going to spend 7 days aboard in those conditions, so I trudged back to Guest Services (FTTF priority line really saved the day there) and invoked Carnival's Vacation Guarantee. Now suddenly another cabin was made available to us...a balcony room that was clearly being air-conditioned properly. They also sent a crewman to help us move our luggage. I had the impression it was the only room available as the ship was full, and the intended occupants were no-shows.

I just got off the Freedom on the 29th, and I thought our cabin was consistently too warm (cabin 9292). As a reference point, I keep my home at 75 in the summer so I wouldn't say I am used to super cold. I did make a trip to guest services the first morning but did not result in improvement.

I felt the temperature in the public areas was cooler without being too cool (except one or two times in the Red Frog Pub).
