  1. Interesting your doctor gave you”just in case” Paxlovid. I have tested positive but was told Paxlovid was too dangerous as it is experimental and you need to discontinue some lifesaving medications for two weeks, I.e. blood thinners and other heart medicines. As long as you are handling the virus and fighting it on your own there is no reason for Paxlovid.
  2. So we will gets pics of the Venture when you board tomorrow. Can’t wait to see them. If you want a cabin like the one pictured you will have to trade with a member of the crew. Of course you would share the cabin with at least one crew member.
  3. How many ports are you hitting in Greenland? We have a two week cruise from m I eland scheduled for 9/4. We can only go ashore in zodiacs or kayaks so we will hit the small villages. We are concerned with the eruption of the volcano in Iceland, this could throw a monkey wrench into all of our plans.
  4. Can’t wait to hear about the ship Md how you like Svalbard. We really enjoyed our one visit and the 24 hours of daylight was crazy. We are on the Venture for her 9/4 cruise and we are more than ready for cooler weather in Greenland.
  5. If you are at high risk of serious complications from catching COVID, perhaps cruising right now is not for you. Check all the warnings and side effects for Paloxid and see if you still think it’s a good drug to take as a “just in case” drug.
  6. I m confused about all of the COVID testing for Rafinmd??!!! If you are not feeling sick why would you take COVID tests and after testing negative, why would you then to a PCR test? None of this is required in Maryland or the U.S.
  7. The Persian Garden is a service, hence the service charge. It is that simple.
  8. Cunard and Seabourn still have self service laundries. Cunard will occasionally close the laundries if there is an outbreak of COVID. If you are in a Royal Suite or higher, they will press your clothes instead of sending the, back to you in a wrinkled pile.
  9. Guess the OP will be doing Laundry every night, not my idea of a vacation. With the summer heat wave it will be even worse and you have children. When we are in a hot area, we often change clothes twice a day as we hate sitting around in sweaty clothes. We also change for dinner. Certainly never shower and put on the same clothes in a hot climate. A winter vacation would require as many clothes changes. You would be better off on a line with a self service laundry, that’s not Celebrity.
  10. If you have a positive antigen test then you can still spread the COVID virus. Folks around here have caught the Omicron variants several times and one recovered and within two weeks was positive again. If you have taken the medication for severe cases many have had rebound illness after five days. The BA5 variant is easily caught and re-caught. So much for having any immunity after you have had it.
  11. Sounds like they hired the right person to build the expedition team!
  12. Hope you find happiness with a different line. All appear to be scrambling, changing itinerary and redeploying ships. Maybe you can find one without COVID and other problems, good luck!
  13. Colonnade can be a buffet at breakfast or you can choose to sit down and use the menu. We prefer table service.
  14. Seabourn did give you your money back. You can book another voyage on Seabourn and get 10% off. That is your alternative. Take the money and book another cruise, at least you have a twelve month warning and plenty of time to look around.
  15. If you are booking a Grill Cabin, then you would have a better experience on the Victoria. The restaurants are in a better area and also have some outdoor dining. The Grill Terrace on the Victoria is wonderful and a great place to enjoy the scenery. The Grill Lounge is also much nicer on the Victoria. I love the QM2 for the ship but she has shortcomings for Grill passengers.
  16. Minimum age for children is six months or 12 months if the ship will be at sea for three consecutive days. A six month old child is a baby, but not a newborn. I wonder how old the elderly couple was, 60?
  17. Celebrity should not excuse passengers breaking the smoking rules unless they are in quarantine and have been given permission to smoke on their balcony or bathroom. They have tried to move the same passengers to other cabins but this has not always been the case.
  18. COVID has inconvenienced most of us especially with cruises and itinerary changes. Ports are being very difficult with COVID restrictions so most lines (maybe all) are deleting those ports from their schedules. If you are very dissatisfied cancel the cruise. Most of us have made sure all our hotel stays and flights dependent on cruising are all able to be cancelled. A positive COVID test would also cancel or ruin your cruise. Unfortunately it is the times we are living in and none of us are getting any younger.
  19. Passengers who don’t like the new itinerary should cancel their voyage. Many of the original ports are too COVID restricted to visit. Our cruise from Japan to Vancouver next May was also canceled and rerouted. We are now happy with a Tahiti to Hawaii cruise.
  20. Best to also check your departure airport. Some don’t even have regular size jets landing. Small commuter type jets will not be able to handle a power wheel chair. You may have to depart from a larger airport.
  21. Passengers grabbing extra chemical sweeteners cause shortages of certain types. If you would be likely to grab extras you should bring a supply of your favorite sweetener.
  22. I was told by my physician that I would have to stop blood pressure medicine and blood thinners. Since I am vaccinated and doubled boosted I would only have a mild case if I were to catch an Omicron variant. He definitely would not recommend taking Paxlovid. If I had lung disease he said I would be mad to put myself at risk.
  23. I am interested in learning of the cruise lines accepting a Certificate of Recovery? If you are testing positive on an antigen lateral flow test you are able to transmit the disease to others. You can catch Omicron a number of times, every variant can get you.
  24. Captain Kate was not the first female captain of a major cruise ship. It was Captain Inger Olsen in 2010 on the Cunard Queen Victoria. She is a wonderful captain but spends more of her time managing the ship and no time in the shops.
  25. I remember when luggage used to be waterproof unless damaged. With all the major thunderstorms especially in the summer, luggage may often stand in the weather and unless you are taking a large jet, they will be loaded individually by conveyor. Believe some higher quality luggage manufacturers sell plastic overcoats that will keep your luggage and it’s contents dry.
