To find out where the smoking areas are, you ask/ read on the boards here for that cruise line. How much shade depends on ship design, cabin location, latitude, longitude, direction of travel…. EM

The lines I have sailed, the menus and quality are equal across the fleet. Just that the newer ships tend to be larger and therefore have more options. EM

Your junior balcony is a smaller cabin with no interior seating, (no couch or chair) and a more shallow balcony. Fine if you are cruising solo. And for only 4 days. If the premium balcony is pp total, not per day, I would take it. EM

Many ships have a promenade deck with smoking allowed on one side of it. Usually there are decks of balconies above it. If you are a non-smoker and smoke bothers you, you need to find out which side the smoking area is, and book the opposite side. EM

If you have done a transit and have wonderful photos you love, you can have them made into jigsaw puzzles. There are companies that do this. My pics go to Shutterfly and you can get puzzles made from 60 - 1000 pieces. EM

Just for the record, there were four Grand class ships with the shopping cart handle Skywalkers. Only the first ship to have it, the Grand, had it removed because of the weight of the structure. It is still present on Golden and Star, sailing now down under for P&O Australia, and the Caribbean. EM

I believe the only recent times ships have missed Aruba were Covid related. Early on when ships had Covid onboard and were denied porting, or when they were delayed at the canal because of Covid testing and had to make up time. EM

I have sailed a lot on Carnival, never on Royal. Not that I have anything against them, but they were never convenient, or in my budget. I don’t like the larger/largest ships, so don’t think I will sail Mardi Gras, and that pretty much rules out the Oasis class. My question is, why have you chosen a cruise? Are you going for the ports, or for the floating resort? I don’t think a first cruise should ever be on the biggest and newest. There a lots of ships with plenty of amenities that are a bit smaller, and newer. Also consider the ease/cost of travel to the departure port. And the cost of the hotel the night before, because you should always fly in a day early, especially in winter. EM
