  1. I had an offer for Alaska solo for $45, plus the $225 taxes, etc. since I live in a non hub area on the east coast, I had to pass. EM
  2. Are you in a quad cabin, or suite? What ship?
  3. Hellesylt is a pause to tender off guests doing an overland excursion to Geiranger. The ship retraces its steps and goes to Geiranger where it may tender, or dock at the floating dock if available. EM
  4. If you are on Fantasia class, and Preziosa is one, do not book a cabin classes as junior. It will be tiny. And they come in inside, OV, and balcony. They would be fine for me, traveling solo, but two would be cramped. EM
  5. Well, I HAVE been on MSC, and not in Yacht Club. I guess I am steerage class. Our first MSC cruise was the three day US inaugural of Divina. We were in an inside gty, which turned out to be what they now call a junior inside. It was okay. We thought the food shaky, but didn’t go hungry. Two years later we were on Divina again, in a lowest class balcony, and it was quite roomy. One of the group on that class of ship that has a tub/shower. In early 2019 we sailed Seaside in a balcony and were quite pleased. We also sailed on one of their smallest, Armonia and it was a much different experience, much more laid back. Demographic is at least half non-North American. They tend to dress more sharply than we are accustomed to seeing, especially the women. Entertainment was all live, no DJ music. And most everything is music related, as comedy would be lost on most other nationalities. EM
  6. I have read on here that there are a few states that issued a card form of the birth certificate and it was used successfully to cruise. Mr. Google showed me that at one time Florida and Iowa did this, but I’m not sure they still do. I do know that to many years I used a paper that was titled Notification of Birth Registration. It got me into the army twice, and my first passport. When it was time to retire and file for social security, I decided to get a birth certificate. What came was a short form, that didn’t even have my parents name on it. EM
  7. Absolutely. However, they may not be able or want to provide you with/sell enough for your journey. But surely you will be able to find a pharmacy or medical supply store ashore. Maybe not in the tourist area. EM
  8. Those cabins appear to be below the Persian Gardens, which I wouldn’t think would be very loud. EM
  9. I’ve never seen gifts in a cabin crawl. Some who have offered their cabins for the crawl have some snacks out, but not mandatory. I thought the purpose of the crawl was to see as many different types of cabins as possible. EM
  10. I think you need to ask this on the board here for the cruise line you are sailing. I believe there is an age where they can leave the ship without and adult, but I don’t know what it is, or if it differs by ship. I think with younger children you can designate others in your group who can take the child off the ship. EM
  11. Or he can ride the scooter to the table, transfer to a chair, and wait staff will ride the scooter to a parking place. And return to it at the end of the meal. EM
  12. Among the kidless is Viking Ocean, no kids and no casinos. EM
  13. Are you old enough for the senior pass for the national parks? It saved us a bundle a few years ago. Only place it didn’t work was Gettysburg. Also, if one do you is former military, you get free entry. EM
  14. Actually, port out, starboard home was coined for those traveling from England to India, and back. Not sure why, unless it was just to see the shore. Or that the afternoon sun might heat up the cabin through the porthole. But if you were doing a winter voyage, you might want the sun to heat your cabin…Back then there were no balconies for people to worry about shade…. It had nothing to do with an Atlantic crossing. As far as a crossing is concerned, it would depend on where home is. If home is in the US, it would be starboard out, port home. EM
  15. Well, since there is no other place for the roll calls, start them here. Then someone reading can click on the ellipsis and report the thread, asking for it to be moved to the World Europe’s roll calls. Mod picks it up, and discovered there is no such board, and creates it. Problem solved. EM
  16. Carnival only as in Carnival family of cruise lines. We have been at Mahogany Bay with a Costa ship. EM
  17. It weren’t these two ships intended/built for the China trade, which doesn’t exist right now…? Better to bring them to the US and see what happens. Introduce Americans to Costa in English so they will be willing to book Costa in Europe rather than waiting for Carnival to send a ship over for the season. EM
  18. I suspect asking on the Princess board here will get you an answer. EM
  19. I booked a 1A inside solo on Ecstasy (I think) from Jax, knowing Spirit was being subbed and I would get a better cabin. I was assigned a 4K former French door inside. I had an upgrade offer for balcony $100, but I declined as I already had the space I wanted. EM
  20. Perhaps one of the intentions s to familiarize us to the Costa brand, so that we will consider Costa for Europe, rather than waiting for Carnival to send a ship over for the season. They one from Long Beach could do coastal cruises, even cruises to Hawaii…. Not just Mexican Riviera. Lots of possibilities. EM
  21. It would be somewhat easier once you make it to Europe. There are cruise ferries all over Europe: North Sea, Baltic, Med…and trains in Europe, too. But essentially, the odyssey would take you a year, and a bundle of money. EM
  22. The ship will not have scooters or chairs for rent. As to whether the scooter would fit in a regular balcony…probably not. You could store it in the closet area if you can get it through the door, but there will not be any outlet there to charge it. And you might not be able to get it past the foot of the bed to the desk area where the outlets are. EM
  23. I would think that the kids would be the same as any other user. But you might ask on the Celebrity board to see what others have done. EM
