  1. Have you tried to book the scooter through Scootaround or Special Needs for the city you are going to in North Florida? On Scootaround's website, for example, it asks what type of rental you want (cruise, hotel/residence or event). Choose hotel/residence and type in the city you will be staying in (or closest major city) to see if they service that city. Plan B would be to google your city for mobility equipment or medical rental and see what places locally you can rent from.
  2. Window suites are Princess' best kept secret. We've been in two window suites on the Caribbean Princess and loved them. (They are under the casino on the Caribbean Princess but we heard nothing.) Did not miss the balcony at all.
  3. I took mine last month on the Equinox. No problem.
  4. We were on the Equinox last month. World's fastest check in!
  5. You might hop on over to the Disabled Travel section and do a search for CPAP. Lots of posts about it. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/114-disabled-cruise-travel/
  6. By the way, when we were on the Equinox in August, they had a naughty table, not a naughty room. It was set up right where you disembark for all to see.
  7. I don't see that Carnival has any accessible shore excursions in Puerto Vallarta. Their website says: "Where available, we require a minimum of 24-hour notice for accessible transportation to be arranged. Vehicles, ramps and lifts may vary depending upon the port and availability." Definitely contact their Access Team and see if they can assist. https://www.carnival.com/about-carnival/special-needs/shore-excursions
  8. When we were on the Caribbean Princess in June, the Patter said the shops would open "approximately one hour after sailing."
  9. Please report back as to whether you are able to rent a scooter out of Ravenna from Special Needs or Scootaround.
  10. Sounds like you're good to go. 😊
  11. We've never had any problem getting Scootaround to call us back. But when comparing the prices between the two companies, double-check to see if Scootaround is charging you for insurance which might be the reason for the price difference. You can remove the insurance from the quote if you don't want it. Also you might try using the 15% discount code USCRUISE for Scootaround (it is from the United Spinal Association). If it doesn't work using it on line, you will have to call them and they will apply it manually.
  12. You can take both. We have had a manual wheelchair and a scooter on Royal Caribbean at the same time. The manual wheelchair just folds up and is put in the corner of the room. I personally wouldn't check the manual wheelchair with the luggage and would keep it until you get to your room. Does the electric wheelchair fold up? You will need to be able to get it inside your room. Contact Royal's Access Department and let them know you will be bringing mobility equipment. Here is a link with more information: https://www.royalcaribbean.com/experience/accessible-cruising/mobility-disabilities
  13. We just got off the Equinox last week and the cost was $15 pp pd plus gratuities.
  14. I agree what others have said about San Juan. Around where the cruise ships dock down town, it is not exactly accessible-friendly. The last time we got off the ship in San Juan we went toward the big Walgreen's store next to where the ships dock; the sidewalks right around Walgreen's seemed better and newer. Going further looked a little iffy so we went back to the ship. There are lots of hills. We were just in San Juan last week and did not get off the ship. The Bacardi tour is accessible but I believe you have to buy your tickets and make reservations beforehand (if booked through your ship they will have all this taken care of). https://www.bacardi.com/us/en/casa-bacardi/tickets/ St Maarten is no problem at all. We were just there last week and it is very accessible, especially right off the ship where the mall is. Take a look at the area off the ship here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXWOhoBcty4 You will have more options using a wheelchair than a scooter since wheelchairs are easier to load on to vehicles. Check with your cruise line to see what types of tours they will be offering in your ports because they should have wheelchair accessible ones (although it might be too early for them to have all their tours listed).
  15. Contact your cruise line's Access Department and ask if they can provide one.
  16. Sorry you had a bad experience with Scootaround. Or any provider for that matter. The last thing you need to happen is an issue with your mobility equipment or provider. One thing we have discovered is that the cruise lines (and we have rented scooters from Scootaround and SpecialNeeds on several lines) is they have spare or backup scooters on the ships. On 3-4 occasions when we had an issue with our scooter while at sea, we went to guest services and advised them. These were somewhat minor problems but we thought we'd better report the concern so it would be documented and the rental company didn't think we caused the problem. Anyway, a new replacement scooter would then show up at our stateroom. So some/many of the ships have extra scooters available on board to exchange for one that's having a problem.
  17. You're paying for it but my experience has been if you rent over the phone they don't itemize it out for you. I've rented from them by phone and just was told an amount that was owing, but when I asked about the insurance they told me how much had been added to the price for it. It was then I asked them to remove it. If renting on line, you can see the insurance amount and decide to keep it or not.
  18. You do not need to buy insurance with either company. But they would love it if you would. We never buy insurance. It covers very little. Have the company you rent from remove it if you don't want it Also, contact your cruise line's access department and advise them you will be bringing a scooter. You will need to complete a form.
  19. Just returned to the ship from St Maarten. All flat around the little shopping area just off the ship. Two bars front and center with lots of frozen drinks. Sharkey's and House of Happy Hour. Both have outside seating.
  20. We were in St Thomas today with a scooter. Piece of cake. The ship personnel help you with the ramp on and off the ship. Wait for them to help you. We're in St Maarten tomorrow but when we were there earlier this year there was zero problem getting on and off the ship. Very easy off the ship with the shops right there. A cold beverage at either stop is right off the ship 🤠
  21. On board the Equinox as I type this. We also had contradicting testing requirements, depending on what you looked at. We decided to go with the two days before sailing testing just to be sure. They barely even looked at our test results when we boarded yesterday
  22. I have never heard of cloudsofgood but have rented from speciialneedsatsea several times. Special Needs was always great but switched over to Scootaround, which is equally good. Compare the prices of both. If you check out Scootaround, use the discount code USCRUISE for a discount. You might have to call to use it if booking on line with it doesn't work. Do you have an accessible room? Most scooters require a wider doorway.
  23. You are correct. I just looked at Carnival's wheelchair accessible shore excursions page and there are none listed for Mexico. But just because a tour is wheelchair accessible does not mean the transportation has a lift for motorized wheelchairs or scooters that require a lift. Can you fold up your scooter so the transportation can accommodate it? When it gets closer to your cruise, I would contact Carnival's Shore Excursion Dept and their Access Department and inquire whether or not there will be any accessible tours that can accommodate a scooter. (And if you need a vehicle with a lift, make sure they know this.) If you haven't already seen it, here is a link with some information. At the bottom of the page, it also tells how to contact the Shore Excursion Dept and Access Dept. https://www.carnival.com/about-carnival/special-needs/shore-excursions
  24. Well, the one thing I can say from past experience is that the Shore Excursion desk has never been very helpful when it comes to accessible excursions. For accessible excursions, unless the excursion description says the transportation provided has a lift, you will probably not be able to take the scooter.
