  1. My husband has a transport chair. They are slightly harder to push if you are on carpet because they don't have the large wheelchair-type wheels but the advantage is that they are a lot easier to fit into a vehicle.
  2. Yes you can park your wheelchair outside the dining areas. Outside the main dining rooms there will be scooters and other mobility devices parked outside. My husband has always taken his rental scooter to the buffet and parked it inside the buffet beside a wall out of the way. Scooters and wheelchairs can be parked outside the casino; just find a wall that you can park next to that is out of the way. We've never had a scooter (or wheelchair for that matter) stolen. I wouldn't leave one unattended at a port stop, though. If you have a mobility store nearby, you might try out a test drive on a scooter. They are really very easy to navigate. The two main scooter rental places (scootaround and SpecialNeedsAtSea) use the Pride brand of scooters. We've rented from both places and have gotten the same exact scooter model from both companies. If you get a scooter and are waiting for an elevator, wait for an empty (or nearly empty) one. Back in to the elevator if you can. Take an empty elevator car no matter which way it is going because you will get to your destination eventually. The crew will help you up and down the ramp when the ship is docked at a port stop. If one of your stops requires the use of a tender, you won't be able to take the scooter on the tender. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/experience/accessible-cruising/mobility-disabilities If you are considering renting a scooter (which your husband will appreciate after pushing a wheelchair around - believe me, I've done it), you might check with Royal's Access Department to see if they have any accessible staterooms available. (866) 592-7225 or special_needs@rccl.com Also check with one of the mentioned scooter rental companies and decide which scooter you want to rent and ask them how wide it is. Royal's non-accessible stateroom doors are at least 23" wide. Interestingly, when I first suggested my husband rent a scooter several years ago, he was not the least bit interested and wanted to just use his wheelchair (or rather, have me push him in his wheelchair). He finally tried a scooter out in a mobility store and he thought it was ok but he still wasn't interested in renting one for the ship. Finally, I said that I would rent one for him and if he didn't like it on the ship, he didn't have to use it and could just stick with his wheelchair. Well... he was so excited about his scooter that he's never looked back. I think it's what he looks forward to most when we cruise and he's always asking me if I've ordered his scooter. He's a totally new and independent person on the scooter.
  3. Make sure you have any extra perks (like OBC) from Celebrity in writing and take a print-out with you. You don't want to get on the ship and discover you are missing OBC.
  4. If you haven't already done so, you should advise Carnival's Guest Access Team that you will be bringing medical equipment. 1-800-438-6744 ext. 70025 And direct from Carnival's website under Guests with Disabilities FAQ: Do you offer CPAP machine rental? You must bring your own equipment on board for personal use. Please hand- carry these items and do not place them in your checked luggage.
  5. We didn't see bubbly but we had this waiting for us on the Caribbean Princess last month. Mix was in the fridge.
  6. No problem with the metal tag or wire scratching the paint. Just put it on the frame someplace that it doesn't fall off. The real issue of paint getting scratched is from the airlines. Just assume that your rollator is going to get scratched by the airline when they put it in the holding area. Many scratches = many trips.
  7. Well, gee, I don't know where all the problems came from but we were on this ship last month and had absolutely zero problems. Our room was great and the whole ship as far as we could tell was gorgeous. We booked another cruise for the Caribbean Princess while on board and then another one on the same ship (same room, too) when Princess was having their $1 deposit sale during the 4th of July.
  8. We were in a window suite on the Caribbean Princess last month. Attached is what our area looked like. The bed was on the other side of this area (also attached).
  9. We were on the Caribbean Princess and disembarked June 18 at Port Everglades. They had, and we used, their luggage forwarding (which is called EZ something ...). It's $25pp.
  10. My husband uses an extra luggage tag attached with a metal wire. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B018KL25VM/
  11. According to Royal's Special Needs Form: Wheelchairs and Scooters must fit through the stateroom door and be stored and charged in the guest staterooms.Standard stateroom doors are minimum 23 inches wide, accessible stateroom doors are 32 inches wide. https://www.royalcaribbean.com/resources/guest-special-needs#:~ Royal Caribbean allows rentals from Special Needs at Sea and Scootaround. I would check with both of these companies and ask them the width of the scooter you wish to rent. The larger scooters are wider.
  12. We've been on 5 cruises since cruising started again, with another one scheduled for next month on the Equinox. We never experienced any shortages on any ship of which we were aware. The crew may have been stretched a couple of times but not to the point of it being a big deal. If we hadn't "known" about shortages, we probably wouldn't have noticed anything.
  13. Our cruise was June 11 and had the covid tests done June 8. Easy peasy
  14. Have you tried calling Scootaround? Their site says that scooter rentals from Revenna are not available to book on line and that you have to call Scootaround. I would give this a try. They partner with scooter companies around the world so they would have to contact their scooter partner in Revenna for a quote and availability. From Scootaround's website: Can I rent a scooter to visit another country? Yes, as long as the rental is picked up and returned to one of our 2500+ North American locations (we currently provide land rental delivery locations only in the United States and Canada). As always, if you’re planning a trip to a foreign country and would like our help to arrange for a personal transport vehicle, give us a call at 1-888-441-7575 - we’ll speak with you about equipment power and charging requirements and other details you may need to know. Scootaround operators can be reached 24/7.
  15. People will have differing thoughts on this, but I've never bought the insurance. You can remove the automatically-applied insurance if you decide not to have it.
  16. What cruise line are you going to be on? My experience has been that the Shore Excursion desk knows very little about the accessible tours. If you check with your cruise line's accessible/access department (before you leave home), they will typically know more and they can contact the tour operator with specific questions. Some cruise lines actually have an accessible shore excursion department and also sometimes a separate accessible shore excursion brochure. Shore excursions that use a vehicle with a lift are scare and they are sold out quickly. It would be nice to have one place to check exactly how accesible the accessible shore excursions are but the tour operators and excursions change and it seems it would be difficult to keep such a list up-to-date.
  17. I suggest you do not check your rollators at the airport but take them with you to the door of the plane. At that point, you get on the plane and the airport people will stow the rollators below, along with wheelchairs, strollers, etc. If you have a connecting flight, they will bring the rollators to you at the door to the plane at your connecting airport where you would do the same thing (use your rollators and take them to the door of the plane for your connecting flight). You need to tell the agent at your gate that you have rollators that need to be gate checked; they will give you a tag to put on your rollators. You can get in the early boarding lane for your flight, along with the wheelchairs. Going through security they will scan and/or hand check your rollators. Will you be able to walk (using the rollators) to your gate? If it's a long way, you could request wheelchair service and hold the rollators on your laps or the wheelchair pusher may be able to carry them on the back of the wheelchairs. The wheelchair pushers are masters at getting through security and to your gate. The cruise terminal has security lines similar to airport security lines. But there should be a special line for special needs passengers. The employees at the terminal can direct you to the correct line.
  18. We booked one today but I'm seriously thinking about booking another one with the $1 deposit.
  19. We just got off the Caribbean Princess on June 18. I didn't see one single area that needed attention. A beautiful ship. We even booked another cruise while on board for the Caribbean Princess for next year and booked yet another cruise on this ship with the Princess promotion going on now of the $1 deposit. I'm actually thinking about booking still another Caribbean Princess cruise with the $1 promotion before it ends . . . The buffet was ok but not great.
  20. I don't think you have a choice as to where the scooter is delivered. If Scootaround tells you it will be at the terminal, then that's where you will have to pick it up and also drop it off on your last day. They will have a kiosk or somthing similar with their scooters waiting to be picked up by passengers who have rented one. I love picking up the scooter at the terminal; that way you will have the scooter from the get-go. Has your mom used a scooter before? If not, she may want to take a few trial runs on one with a local mobility store or even trying the grocery store scooter carts would be better than nothing. Getting on the ship is not the best place to learn how to operate a scooter. According to Carnival's website, it asks you to complete a mobility questionnaire if you are requesting an accessible room. If it were me, I'd still fill out the form even if I didn't have an accessible room just so Carnival knows there is someone with mobility issues in case of an emergency. https://www.carnival.com/about-carnival/special-needs/wheelchair-users And from the Scootaround website, take a look at the section called "Will a Scootaround electric mobility scooter fit through the cabin door?" There may be a problem getting through the door if you rented anything larger than a transportable scooter. If you ordered one of their transportable scooters, they are usually the Pride Go-Go Sport, which are 21.25" wide and Carnival says their non-accessible stateroom doors are 22" wide. Check with Scootaround to verify the width of the scooter you rented. https://scootaround.com/en/frequently-asked-questions
  21. This link might be helpful: https://blog.wellspect.com/traveling-with-catheters
  22. Make sure you do not lose sight of your catheter supply while traveling. Take them as a carry-on if you fly (medical supplies fly free) and keep them with you until you get to your stateroom (ie, do not let the porters take your bag of supplies). If you have more than one suitcase, I would put a supply in each. Just in case . . . And like essiesmom said, depending on your port stops, you should be able to find some at a pharmacy if need be.
  23. I wondered about the checked luggage part, too. Maybe HAL's Accessibilty Department can clarify. Here's their contact information: Guest Accessibility Department Phone: 1-800-547-8493 (locally at 1-206-626-7044) TTY: 1-800-254-8669 Email: GuestAccessibility@HollandAmerica.com And I agree, never let your precious cargo (meds, medical devices, etc) leave your sight.
  24. OK, here's a video of scooters and wheelchairs getting on the tender in Cabo (Carnival Panorama). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iU-e_PLe4lk And here is Carnival's statement regarding tender ports: https://*****.com/2p85zxxc I don't think you will have any problem with your rollator.
