  1. The train station in Florence is very close to the center. It is MUCH cheaper to purchase tickets in advance (use the Trenitalia site) and completely safe.
  2. Don't miss the Gothic Quarter. Las Ramblas is....interesting....but full of pickpockets.
  3. Bermuda is neither Mexico nor the Caribbean; everything is expensive.
  4. If you are renting in Miami, be very careful: https://www.airbaware.com/2019/06/airbnb-hunted-down-and-kicked-out/#:~:text=Miami is is kicking Airbnb out of illegal, out by the task force called Code Compliance
  5. Malon? or Milan? Since no one knows what you consider expensive, suggest you try looking on Trivago. My wife and I stayed in a very nice place in 2015, but it was $400 per night.
  6. Yes, I was booked on the Magnifica from Barcelona to Miami. leaving Barcelona May 3rd. That has now been cancelled, with MSC promising a full refund.
  7. I live on the west side of Manhattan (not very far from the Manhattan cruise terminal), and Newark Airport is actually my preferred airport, La Guardia second, and JFK a very distant third.
  8. Frankly, I think all overnight flights from the US to Europe are miserable (and I've done it a lot), no matter which airline you fly. Flying back is much easier, since it's usually in the daytime. And unless you are flying back to someplace like NYC, you will be stunned by the one-way fares. Try for a window seat so that you can rest next to the window; a middle seat is the worst, and in an aisle seat I can almost guarantee that someone in the other two seats will disturb you mid-flight when they have to get past you to use the restroom.
  9. How long from where? There is no security.
  10. I live in NYC; I would NOT suggest staying in the NY Penn Station area unless you want to buy drugs on 8th Avenue while you are here.
  11. The post was moved to this forum from where it was first posted.
  12. The islands you mention are not in the Med, but in the Atlantic Ocean; ANYTHING is possible....
  13. Lisbon is listed under "Other Mediterranean Ports" even though it's not in the Med.
  14. This is not true. You were probably scammed by a gypsy cab which was neither yellow nor green and had no meter.
  15. Has train service from Montreal to the US been restored?
  16. My wife and I lived in Houston (the Montrose district) for four years. Without a car, it is virtually impossible to see anything of Houston. Go straight to Galveston. I also lived in Montreal at one time, where even 40 years ago there was an excellent public transportation system; the same is not true in Houston.
  17. Pay phones are virtually non-existent in this country now (they just removed most of them here in NYC recently). You will probably be out of luck if you don't have a cell phone. I also have Consumer Cellular, and it's very inexpensive.
  18. IMO, driving after the series of flights you have described will be the most dangerous part of your trip.
  19. The cruise port is not in Rome. The port is actually about an hour away in Civitavecchia.
  20. Chicken is cheaper, and rarely tries to kill you. And octopuses (I know people say Octopi, but that's actually incorrect) are very smart, but also very delicious.
  21. I found it a colossal bore. There are much more interesting things to see in Barcelona.
