  1. Pcardadl, they are essential if new cruises willl be released prior to getting on your next cruise. Yes, you could make a dummy booking and move it over but these are easier.
  2. I'm surprised to hear that Andy and Tammie retired; this past September was first time that I have ever sailed with them and I truly enjoyed how they led the entertainment department. They are only in their 40s; must be nice to retire so young. Too bad about Null Island. Marc PS Hopefully Margaret replaces John on Voyager.
  3. Jim, what are you going to do on your second day in Cabo Verde? Do you know if you will be crossing the equator at the Primer Meridian? Null Island? Since I am a geography junkie I think that would be the highlight of the trip for me. Also, you mentioned earlier that Grandeur was on schedule according to CC. Just learned that one of the NCL new builds has been delayed due to "supply chain issues;" any rumbling of Grandeur facing the same fate? Almost time to choose excursions and, more importantly, air; beginning to get curious.
  4. That cruise would be Cape Town RT which should have a yellow fever vaccination (or letter) required. Both Namibia and South Africa require yellow fever. If you are vaccinated (no booster required) no testing required to enter South Africa.
  5. Panama is still EST so no time changes before going through canal. Puntarenas is Central time so probably gain an hour night of 25th but might be 26th. Cabo San Lucas is MST so will gain an hour either on New Year's Eve or 1 January. Ensenada is PST so add an hour night of 2nd or 3rd. Usually would be first night of each option but given the holidays I don't know what the ship will do but I think they will do first night (Christmas night and New Year's Eve) but truly up to the ship. See you onboard! Marc
  6. We have sailed in an aft G2 on Explorer. Sitting down you cannot see over the metal railing (solid metal all the way down). Standing up you are able to see the sea and throw grapes down to those in the infinity pool. Would I book one again; hell no.
  7. Dave, are you sure about that email address? I sent an email to her on 8 October and she has yet to acknowledge or reply. My email was regarding the Society Pages addressed to my mother (who has been dead for six years) yet we have not received one addressed to Arlene or I. I guess I know why there are so many SSS members if they keep a Platinum dead six years on the books. Marc
  8. Our December 2023 Mariner cruise has PDF available whilst our November 2023 Grandeur cruise does not; thus my earlier question regarding Grandeur construction timeline.
  9. We have been on a number of Regent cruises over Christmas and New Years. Last year on Splendor, as the cruise was a back to back of two ten day cruises there were no formal optional nights. HOWEVER, many wore formal Christmas Eve AND Regent listed New Year's Eve as formal optional even though they hadn't told anyone in advance. So, for the cruise this year I am planning on three formal optional; the two regularly scheduled (should be Captain's Welcome and Farewell) and New Year's Eve. Me, I will bring one or two sports coats; nothing more formal. I also will not bring a tie. You can never go wrong over dressing; you will find many others that are also dressed to the nines. And, then you can call people like me slobs. 😀 By the way, last Christmas cruise on Splendor I saw a man in Splendor lounge taking one dollar bills off a wad of cash and giving one dollar to bar waiter each time he delivered a drink; something I had never seen on Regent before and hope to never see again. Marc
  10. Who you really want to sail with is Anthony Quimby; by far the best piano player./singer we have ever had on Regent. Filled in on Navigator for a month this summer; hopefully back on Regent in the next year.
  11. Fair enough; btw, all save one who have replied on this thread have used the same TA and been part of "the group." I have had more issues wherein Regent dumps inventory overseas to fill a relatively empty ship without having to match lower fares. We picked up over 100 passengers in Hong Kong a few years ago; they even added tours in Cantonese in all the ports. Definitely impacted the experience. Whether you are on the Splendor or Grandeur, I really don't think you will even notice the group.
  12. I have a feeling I know which cruises you are talking about. I have travelled with that travel agent as part of a group over a dozen times; I don't think at any time we have adversely impacted the rest of the passengers; even when we had over 100 in the group on Mariner. She will have one cocktail party per segment (I don't know where on Grandeur maybe even card room) that should be prior to dinner. She will also have one luncheon in a specialty restaurant that would not be opened at all except for the group. As for large dinner tables; I think most of the group prefer tables for four or six with an occasional eight. I have to admit that once on Voyager in 2007 part of Observation Lounge was reserved for us sail into Oslo; but we didn't mind others joining us; again, it was only a part of observation lounge. Not all groups are created equal nor should all groups be feared. Marc
  13. New food and drink on Splendor and Explorer: https://www.rssc.com/discover-more/blog/new-concept-sapori-e-amari-debuts-at-coffee-connection?s=EM_RSS_AP_TCT_EMI_CTB_EML_MULTOFFER_OCT221875-20221018_NA_UC_DESTMULTI Now, already short staffed dining rooms will be even shorter staffed. 🤫
  14. Karen, don't forget to put in a claim with your insurance company (if you had insurance) for those days you were confined and when they don't pay claim reimbursement directly from Regent (if you tested negative prior to cruise).
  15. If same category and same price available; in other words you would need to rebook. Even then some times I have had to pull teeth to get onboard booking credit added. Also, never have gotten $200 SBC. YMMV Marc
  16. Especially on Mariner which has Stars Lounge.
  17. Usually penultimate night but can be moved a day forward due to port times. Always at 1800. Block parties are back.
  18. No; just La Veranda and Pool Grill.
  19. Slight correction, any suite, not just penthouse and above, can have two bottles in your cabin; and they are replenished whenever needed.
  20. I had a small claim for medical (dental) in Sydney Nova Scotia Canada. Even though I identified which expenses were paid in Canadian Dollars and which in US dollars, BH, in their infinite wisdom, converted the expenses paid in Canadian dollars as if they were paid in Australian dollars. I pointed this out via email when I first got notification of the claim; no response. I called when I got (incorrect) check and explanation in mail; no action taken; they said they will have to get back to me. I cannot be the first person to submit claim for expenses in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada; why can't BH just admit they made a mistake and fix it. Rant over, Marc
  21. Glad to see that the Duck foie gras terrine is back on the menu; nowhere to be found last Sunday.
  22. I need to correct my statement; we did have a Sunday brunch on Navigator; sort of a disaster. Never repeated.
  23. Sunday brunch only on Explorer or Splendor. That curtain hides the exit from Horizon Lounge used for egress to lifeboats through Chartreuse. Also used for any face to face immigration. I wonder if woman who demanded music be turned down was same woman on last cruise that demanded a two thirds completed puzzle be put away and another substituted because the puzzle was "too hard."
